  • This great Scottish fishing and travel film is a transfer I made from a 16mm film I own. It was issued by the British Tourist Authority as a travel film and I'm guessing it's from the 60's. It shows spinning, fly and ocean fishing for salmon, trout, grayling, pike, skate, halibut, and others. It has great views of the streams, Loch's and countryside. It also has some great indoor scenes in hotels and pubs. It also has a nice section featuring fishing journalist Bernard Venables fishing and giving commentary. It was originally in color but unfortunately it was printed on Eastman stock that turned red. When processing, I just turned it black and white since it was such a nice picture. I hope you enjoy this look back.
Thank you all for your support, the ad revenue from UA-cam helps me to purchase new films and continue with the transfers and uploads. Please continue to support the ads and DVD's. You can see another film I just found, purchased and transferred here

This film must have been made bettween 1966 & 1970, as these were the years the MkII Cortina was in production, the vehicle our amature angler arrives at the hotel in.

Man. I can’t imagine fishing while wearing a sport coat and tie.

+kenny marroney I'm glad you enjoyed the film and I'm very jealous that you've been able to fish those locations. Thanks :)

+wrestlingfilms.blogspot.com/ Not the Beauly, or that bit of the Spey! The Tay beyond the Tummel junction was quite accessible in various parts for salmon fishing as i remember in the 70s.

+kenny marroney That's very cool, how was the fishing then? Can you still fish any of those areas? I'm very lucky that I live in one of the best steelhead areas of the US but I'd love to be able to fish some of these places in Scotland and England some day.

+wrestlingfilms.blogspot.com/ You can still fish them though theres not nearly so many salmon around as when the film was made, and sea trout numbers are even more reduced. Plenty pike around, and grayling i assume. Its just good to be on some of those waters in the Highlands. I prefer river fishing but, in general, Highland rivers are poor for brown trout and the lochs provide better opportunities. Ive mostly only caught steelheads as a stocked fish in the 70s (a type of fishing i dont do at all now) but i know from personal experience that some rainbow trout migrate up our rivers from the sea. I assume they are steelheads and a surviving population from stocking days. Do you have sea trout as well as steelheads where you are?

I'm just outside Buffalo, NY and right on Lake Erie and some major tributary creeks. No sea trout but many large lake trout in the lake and Niagara River. There's Yellow (Walleye) pike, Northern Pike and Muskies but the Blue Pike went the way of the Dodo many years before I started fishing. There's still good populations of steelheads (which they continue to stock), salmon, large and smallmouth bass and perch. When I can make it out on the rare occasion today it's for steelhead and salmon on the more secluded sections of the creeks.

Great stuff. What a shame that those fish have all but gone.

Well, I would expect so. Those fish would have been roughly 60-years old today, which is about 50-years longer than most fish live. LOL.
