I have never understood the potato reference to Nikon. I shot Nikon for 18 yrs and switched after my Z6 years, not because of the camera, but because of lack of community of shooters. Not that many people were using the system for video and so not many people creating luts, or cages or the infrastructure that Lumix, Sony and Canon have. I so miss some critical things since switching to Lumix, but not enough yet to switch back. I am glad as a former fanboy that you had a great experience, and beautiful work as well. Well done.
6:44 Among all the camera brands, Sony have won the social media battle, providing content creators a few things: light weight cameras, great auto focus, and flip out screen. Sony started earlier than the other their mirrorless journey and didn’t have a DSLR line of camera to protect. All of that gave them some advantages compared to the other brands which then had to play catch. Sony have a lot of fanboys on UA-cams at a point that it’s rare that videos about other brands makes the 100k views. UA-cam being a search engine and a social media platform will automatically prioritise contents which engage people’s. And unfortunately Sony’s videos generate more search requests, views and there are more mid size UA-cam channels than other brands. So how to fix that? Nikon and other brands have up their social media game, help more content creators to grow their channel with more collab. Nikon needs to make their cameras more visible online in the face and eyes of content creators showing all what they’re missing using Sony’s or Canon’s cameras. I’m not talking about hiring some Sony shooter and UA-camr to make just one video with an awesome great sales speech for them. They need real content creator ambassadors. Using content creator which are first Sony shooter will not help them on the long run. They will make one videos then move on to their own business using Sony not Nikon.
It’s a lot of Nikon shooters on you tube that are ambassadors, but like you said it’s so many more Sony users that it’s a speciality to have a Nikon and search for Nikon. So they are going to have to do a big haul to try to be a focus when it comes to YT and content creators a like. It’s so bad because UA-camrs have talked bad about Nikon as if they are a bad product and a lot of people believe them.
You are absolutely right, when I shoot sporting events all I see are the ubiquitous Sony lenses everywhere. While I am with my trusty Nikon Z6II and the Nikon Z 70-200 knocking the other photographers out of the water. I just feel that Nikon has all the other phot companies beat. The images with the Nikon Z system are rendered beautifully.

I shot Nikon for five years from 2013-2018. I started as a portrait photographer. I had everything from the d3100 to The D750. My last Nikons were a D5 and the D850. I loved my Nikons. But in 2018 I switched to mirrorless as I was transitioning to video. I shoot corporate video now. At the time Sony had much better autofocus and video capability. I sold my all of my Nikon gear and lost about $5000 in trade in value between all of my full frame lenses and the bodies. By the time Nikon caught up, it was too late, I had switched camera systems and was fully invested in the Sony system. I still have love for Nikon though. Your footage looks good.
People are afraid to say they using NIKON… but the fun fact is they (Nikon) sold a lot of z series cameras since D3… n the record has been 📈. So who ever calls Nikon users potato’s it’s only because they themselves eat potato chips n fries while hidden.
🛼Whenever I see someone bashing a camera brand, whether it’s Nikon, Sony, Canon, whatever… I immediately think that person is a beginner. And they are.

Keep going. You inspire me.
nikon has always been underrated, I started with a D90 early 2010 to a D810 to a D750 and been using a Z6 for 3yrs, can't wait for the Z6iii as I can't afford the Z8 right now.
I love Nikon and I want this camera. My business partner is a Sony only guy. And I’m trying to convince him to give it a try. I like Sony but at heart I started with Nikon and don’t want to succumb to the “industry standard”
Great video! I love my Z8, but I rarely take it on paying video jobs because of two big problems. The camera has, the inability to load user Luts, and the fact that the HDMI blacks out for a few seconds every time you stop recording. So it takes a little bit of time for the video village to come back up and I’ve had clients question me about that, and I hate making up excuses for a camera.
I didn’t have an issue connecting it to my smallhd monitor. I usually put luts on my monitor when shooting with cameras like that. I even do it on my fx3.
This is an interesting topic that I have paid attention to it for a while. The Canon vs Nikon DSLR experience started a lot of this and it really boils down to personality types, marketing, and simply attitude. Canon people who have committed to the brand don't wish to feel Nikon has anything they don't. That's the simple answer. People are prideful. I was introduced by Nikon to by brother and not in a big way, just the brand was good, blah blah blah. Then I bought a film camera. I used it and liked it. It wasn't until digital cameras came out that I renewed my interest and bought a Nikon basic, the an intermediate DSLR and started buying used lenses. That's when I saw the benefits, price of old lenses and quality of image. However, Canon people just can't get past themselves. They don't care. Someone recently said to me as the typical excuse, Nikon AF isn't fast enough. Ridiculous responses so they don't have to face the truth, they've been had. Now as far as video is concerned I equate why cameramen don't want to shoot on Nikon is this; It's like telling someone you drive an Infiniti. A what? An Infiniti. What's an Infiniit? It's a great car nobody knows about and why? Nissan doesn't market the luxury vehicles or any. They just don't. So the result is cultural perception. Shooters only shoot on what's popular and Nikon has never marketed their cameras to shoot anything and this has been the downside. I can't find anyone who will shoot on my Z6 so I can just direct. I won't shoot on anything else bc I refuse to spend the money or extra storage for nothing. So, now they bought RED they will get some recognition and perception of the brand to shooting production. In short, people are sheep and only use what is marketed to them. Nikon personalities are individualists who don't follow anyone. It's a masculine brand, period. Canon is for the soys of the world. Sony makes great products but they are the Apple of the digital world. Sigh. Lastly, why should I have to buy a Varicam just to attract a shooter? Just dumb. So I will sit and wait to find people who have their come to Jesus moment.
The fact that Nikon bought Red says something...the possibilities like Red having access to Nikon lenses and Nikon accessing to the color technology of Red's.....
For me the END was my Nikon Z7ii - and finding it only recorded internally in 8 bit (years behind competitors)... Great camera for stills- but I was off to Sony for video. Nikon just has NEVER gotten it- maybe trying to play catch-up, but I am not sure they will ever really 'get it'.
I'm thinking about switching from Sony FX3 to Nikon Z9/Z8 for video. Sick of waiting endless time for firmware updates and pay full price for half of the specs and possibilities that other brands have !
@@BrittneyJanae good video capabilities both codec & frame rate / log / raw if possible / descent dynamic range and good lowlight capability and a good built in screen (bright & good definition) I’m quite happy with my FX3 especially for low light shooting but I’m like for what I paid with Sony the z9 offers me better screen RAW capabilities more codecs like ProRes stuff like that !
I've been in the photography industry and on social media and have used enough things to come to the conclusion that anybody on UA-cam adamantly proclaiming that you can't use Nikon for anything to be a bit of a blind fanboyish bum. I use Nikon and Fuji for a lot of my work. They get the job done. I love Nikon for video. The Z9 and 85 1.2 is a great talking head interview set up for example. Z8 on a gimbal has to be great as well.
Such a FANTASTIC video! I’ve been working hybrid with a Nikon Z8 for nearly one year(since last May), although I’m still a student studying so I’m not THAT professional but honestly for me it’s just fantastic on both video and stills! Keep on these stunning works!!!🛼🛼🛼
Having picked up my first Nikon in 2003 and then selling cameras for a number of shops between 2005 to 2015, the answer is simple. Nikon has and is only trashed by those who don't use Nikon. In other words, Sony, Canon and sometimes Fuji fanboys. And what they don't realize is that both Sony and Canon and now especially Fuji, have been sold to them by the very people on this platform and camera reps like myself in the past. But Nikon and Olympus have been, and are brands for those who value the art form of photography/videography and choose their own path regardless of a what a channel with millions of 'followers' say. FYI, when I worked for Ritz Camera and Samy's Pacamera (Pasadena), Sony and Canon would pay us anywhere between $5 to $20 for selling their product. So yes, it was in my pocket's interest to push both Sony and Canon and not Nikon, even though I myself was a Nikon user.
When i first switched to mirrorless about 5yrs back, nikon was behind the curve on video specs. I eventually bought into the fuji system. I was a nikon photographer for a long time so im Glad to see Nikon stepped back up.

As always super dope video. You are an incredible creator. 🛼
🛼Nikon been underrated forever. My first film camera was a Nikon back in 2006 and my first digital camera was also a Nikon back in 2012. Nikon will always have a special place in my 💙
Appreciated this as a nikon shooter 🙏🏽💪🏽
🛼 Great film and BTS video. I’m a skater too, in Miami and this help me big time. Thank you!
Z8 is hands down the best hybrid fcamera today. I do expeditions in The Arctic and Antarctica and the z8/z9 a just amazing for run and gun style video and the image quality is outstanding. Regarding menu settings, you can absolutely customize your "i" menu with everything you need right aways and use the "my menu" for everything else.
i sold all my sony and zeiss stuff last year when the z8 came out!
Best decition ever!
Nikon Z system is amazing!!!
That’s dope!
Wow seeing you skating with the cage and the Z8 was great!
Love my Nikon Z8. It’s a cinematic hybrid beast!
Dope video and review 🙌🏽
Exactly perfect timing for using personal that you can skate when we saw your story on IG. Then shooting this short film you made damn cool. Literally Veronica Ball from Shameless series a family drama, reminds me of you haha same face shapes. Haha
🛼 For one of the best skaters and filmmakers! Thank you for this review and BTS! I’m intrigued and haven’t had a Nikon in years! One thing about you you’re always going to make everything look amazing! DP of the year 2024!
LOVE the video and I've always loved Nikon!
I am a z8 owner and meeenn.... it rocks. Thank alot
14 Years shooting Nikon and Id never switch. All people have done is hop on trends and follow the masses. Gear is gear.
Great overview B. I built my whole YT channel on Nikon. Well done B! 🛼
Video was 🔥 but all of your work is 🔥 talented Pham
Love your honesty when talking about gear 💯💯 Professor Brit 🎓🎓
Thank you!! I try to stay non bias and honest as possible
People are afraid to say they using NIKON… but the fun fact is they (Nikon) sold a lot of z series cameras since D3… n the record has been 📈. So who ever calls Nikon users potato’s it’s only because they themselves eat potato chips n fries while hidden.
I just finished a shoot couple of hours ago using the Z9. its a beast!
🛼Whenever I see someone bashing a camera brand, whether it’s Nikon, Sony, Canon, whatever… I immediately think that person is a beginner. And they are.
🛼🛼 loving my Z9. Recently played with Z8 at WPPI. This is a great video. Would love to see more BTS and documentaries maybe even interviews with your team.
More to come but check out my past videos where my team is involved!
🛼 Hello! New to videography by volunteering at my local church. I’ve been looking to get my own camera to continue developing the craft in the side. I’ve definitely seen other creators supporting other brands. I’ll definitely give the Z8 a look. Thank you for your time and dedication!!
🛼🛼 I so love your contents. I have improved my filmmaking skills just watching your content. Keep it up Brit. Much love from Nigeria
Thank you so much!!
🛼Did you use a low white balance (below 5k) to achieve the look in camera, or was it all done in post?
I think my white balance was 5k It was a super cloudy day. So right off the bat, it already gave me some nice cooler tones. And I enhanced it in post
Nice ty!@@BrittneyJanae

First, I am late to these recent videos. Life be life-ing.
Second, love the documentary.
Third, I love this video. I am a Canon shooter on photography and Sony on video, but I have no loyalty to any brands 🤣😂😅 I did a little research on the z8 and this possibly might be my next big investment. Love what you do. Keep going. You inspire me.
Thank you so much! I too have no brand loyalty lol
nikon has always been underrated, I started with a D90 early 2010 to a D810 to a D750 and been using a Z6 for 3yrs, can't wait for the Z6iii as I can't afford the Z8 right now.
I’ve always loved their colors! And have always been fascinated with what I’ve seen my peers do with the camera!
Fun fact, the Nikon D90 was the first DSLR to have video. Unfortunately they fell behind after that. But I'm glad they're back in the conversation.
@@sooksmedia I know this fact all too well! I tell it to people also and they get surprised
i like nikon z8 and z9 because they can do it all and the bodies are very well build. does the z8 have problems with overheating while filming?
I didn’t have much of a problem but I also haven’t shot any long form content on it.
@brittney, Can you give us a breakdown on the color grading workflow?
It’s always about the skill behind the camera and not the camera….Great video! 👌🏾🛼
The new z8 and Zf are just brilliant..
I think the Nikon Z30 is the best hybrid camera and it’s budget friendly. I’ve have my z30 for a good minute and it does awesome videos and photos.
Skate - awesome take!
You are such an inspiration 🛼🛼🛼
🛼still rockin the Z6ii so Z8 would be a massive upgrade for me
For me the END was my Nikon Z7ii - and finding it only recorded internally in 8 bit (years behind competitors)... Great camera for stills- but I was off to Sony for video. Nikon just has NEVER gotten it- maybe trying to play catch-up, but I am not sure they will ever really 'get it'.
They def “got it” with the z8 and z9!
I like this take on this Nikon
Same! They deserve more
I say the same thing it's all about the creator behind the lens. Let's get it!!!
Facts!!
I shoot Fuji now, but I miss even the Nikon Z30 I had! Those are my top 2 brands.
I'm thinking about switching from Sony FX3 to Nikon Z9/Z8 for video. Sick of waiting endless time for firmware updates and pay full price for half of the specs and possibilities that other brands have !
What are you wanting from the camera?
@@BrittneyJanae good video capabilities
both codec & frame rate / log / raw if possible / descent dynamic range and good lowlight capability and a good built in screen (bright & good definition)
I’m quite happy with my FX3 especially for low light shooting but I’m like for what I paid with Sony the z9 offers me better screen RAW capabilities more codecs like ProRes stuff like that !
I love shooting my photos with Nikon.
Z8 is really going to takeoff after Nikon bought RED
Indeed! Nikon rocks!
🛼 looked great, I loved this!
And now they own RED ;)
Nikon goin crazy right now
🛼
When I watched the video itself I actually forgot about the camera completely and just enjoyed it as a short film.
Thank you!!! And yea that goes with my second point, these are all just tools. As long as it did what it needed to do. Thank you for watching!
you are brilliant loved this
SOMEbody had to 🛼out on the bill. 'Cause she *ate* on that mini-docu.
🛼 from someone who has been in music. Brand doesn’t matter. As long as it’s could bring out your skills
Can’t wait for you to review a Nikon camera with a RED sensor lol.
context: Nikon bought RED
Haha right???
Awesome 👏 review
When i first switched to mirrorless about 5yrs back, nikon was behind the curve on video specs. I eventually bought into the fuji system. I was a nikon photographer for a long time so im Glad to see Nikon stepped back up.
Totally agree
🛼 Thank you!!
🛼 Loved it! 🛼
Well, well , well, this aged well because Nikon just announced they are buying RED!!!
Haha right!! Perfect timing!!
