First time viewer. I had to stop and watch you guys because you remind me of a great experience I had camping with the family in the Smokey Mountains years ago. Not a lot of Black people out there camping overnight. My 6 year old son and I were gathering wood for the campfire. It rained that day, so we only got some wet wood. Then we saw this big White dude with a big beard coming towards our site. We got nervous. Kind of froze. We never noticed the big pile of wood he had in his hands. Guess we were too nervous. He came over and said here is some good dry wood for your fire. It was great. Nice guys helped us out. Thanked him a few times. Never judge a book by its appearance.
Ian, now that was fun. I have never seen that before. You can load a cooler in a hurry doing that. Thank you for allowing me to come along. I am so glad y'all had a great weekend in The Hatch. One day we are going to catch up together and enjoy some good eating. Love you guys, give the LADIES my love. God Bless
This was a great video @ Tug Trash. It had a nice boat, cool illumination for seeing the lobsters, very educational, 3 good guys and in the night...LoL. The combination makes for a cool video.
This is the first time I've seen your show. Guys you are fantastic. I grew up 22 miles from Cherry Grove Beach SC. When I was 6 years old my grandma took me crabbing with her in the channel in front of her vacation house. NOTE-THE YEAR WAS 1959. We stopped at Platts seafood market & got fish heads to use for crab bait. We would leave the fish heads in the sun until they got a really funky smell. She would tie a fish head onto a small twine with a small fish weight tie the other end to a stake driven into the ground & toss the fish head into the creek. Then wait a while. You slowly pull the twine up the edge of the creek you would stand in the water with the sun in your face with a 6' pole with a crab net on the end. When you got the crab close enough you would net him, you had to be very still & then very quick when you netted the crab or he would see you & run away. During the course of an entire Saturday we would catch a bushel basket of legal size Blue Crabs. I'm sure you probably find this hard to believe, but it is the truth. My grandfather would take me & my older brother to the creeks in th marsh grass & we would seine for brown creek shrimp. On an entire Saturday we would catch a 5 gal. dry wall bucket of brown creek shrimp. My grandad would take us trolling for flounder in the creeks in the marsh grass. Back then we didn't have high tech fish finders, but my grandfather knew where the deep holes were & we would troll through the deep holes with our carolina salt water flounder trolling jigs. Back then in the old days you might catch 5 or 6 legal size flounder. We also fished for what we called Puppy Drum fish they were grey with black stripes on them {I think they were Sheep's Head fish, but not sure. As I got older my cousin would take me into the creeks with an old truck inner tube with a 5 gal bucket tied into the middle of the tube. We would dig up clams & oysters. Then by the end of the week we would have a feast at grandma's & grandad's channel beach house.. We would have crabs, flounder, shrimp, oysters & clams, also with my grandma's homemade fried cornbread patties. Some people call them hush puppies or corn dodgers. . My mom, dad, brothers, & sister would all be there to eat. I am now 71 years old my grandparents, my parents, & the house in Cherry Grove are gone. The areas we use to fish are now contaminated most of the time from run off from the Golf Courses next to the creeks. I don't mean to be so long winded, but your show brought back some wonderful memories of years past'. Keep up the good work. It's great to see the wife & the kids enjoying going out with you. Sincere thanks from an old man!!
I love that I can bring back these memories! I also hate that the places are no longer the same. I can smell that cornbread in the frying pan! Thanks you
Ha .... As a kid I lived at "Jug island" which was north of Steinhatchee( on the south side of Dekle beach)= gone now ...! ! ! ........We used ot have net fishermen that would "row" their net boats out to net mullet, we, as kids, made pocket change packing the mullet into the freezer box = when it got full, we'd take em, to steinhatchee for sell. = was quite a life for a ten year old ..... Lots of stories from that era of my life ....! ! ! ! ! Wish I was back there ...... ! ! ! ! ! !
Jug island is definitely still there...just isn't stilt houses anymore. Part of Jug Island dying out was the sponge industry dying out, not as many divers to rent the stilthouses, etc. Now, unfortunately, as far as I know the island is owned by a family (a doctor) who uses it as a vacation spot.
@@chris6054 Hi Chris, indeed, the cafe used to be a sponge processing facility ( as I was told). When I was there I probably lived in almost all the cabins at one time or another, it was a good tourist destination and a draw for towns folk. Yep, we finally moved on and one day I got married and brought the new wife up there to see the place and it was deserted and the cabins were all falling down etc, ( I've got a few pictures) anyway, later years I went there and saw everything was gone and a big house , and, a smaller one was there also. And, like you heard, a doctor bought the place and had the house built and, built one for the caretaker, however, years later i saw the houses in disrepair, I figured the doctor probably died, also probably the caretaker too. I haven't been back in 40 years ... No telling what it looks like today ..... I recall, when I lived there, on occasion, sponge boats would stop and tie up to the dock, with all their sponges strung up all over the boat, to spend the night. They used to give us "Hard-Tack" LOL .. Was good living back in those days ... I wrote a song about the place way back .... Have a nice day ... Danny
@bbwana77 sometimes I wish it could go back to those days, because Englewood/Port Charlotte/North Port area had its own share of crazy AND fun stories lol. The entire state looks so different now, it's really disappointing. Few places to see the old, true Florida in 2024
@@chris6054 It is disappointing looking toward the future Chris ...... I'm 76 yrs old, almost done with my time here on this earth, and, kinda lookin forward to being done and gone .........
I am truly impressed by your resourcefulness and skill in managing the boat load of lobsters, even when caught by FWC. Your expertise in bully netting and the subsequent process of catching, cleaning, and cooking lobster tails showcases your dedication and passion for the craft. Sharing this experience highlights both your culinary talents and your ability to handle unexpected challenges. And I am Floating Village Life.
I know the FWC can be a pain in the butt; however, I am glad they are doing their best to make sure future generations get to enjoy the experience! Plus, it was very cool to see how you and your crew treat them with respect! That’s just one many reasons I love your channel!

Catching up on the week's videos after being on vacation, a nice way to ease back into not being in Florida haha. You saw Miami the same way I like seeing NYC, from the water, it's better that way... Thanks for sharing the adventure.
First bully netted with garndfather in 1955-56 I was 5-6 at tome he was a charter capt. out of Coconut Grove FL and his father before him dating back to before the civil war. We used 6 volt car headlights that were no match for what's used today. No regs., no limits neither size or number, no season, or FWC back then we would get a couple of garbage cans full for a family cookout on Virginia key's Virgina beach. Would beach the charter boat always "Laura" named after my grandmother. Mother had 10 brothers and sisters so it was a very large gathering. Would use a different bully net technique in that we would also use a seperate tickle stick to trick the lobster into swimming into the bully net. This took some skill and time to learn but Biscayne Bay was much clearer then so even with the weak lights we could easily see the lobster. Boat was inboard for offshore billfishing and much larger. Family cooked them whole and live, they would scream when they hit the boiling water. I am 75 now and still fish regularly no more tournments just for sport all over the world. Your show brought back lots of memories deep thanks from the bottom of my heart. Ray Stormont
Hi Tug Trash, once again your channel was another UA-cam suggestion, and this video was alot of fun to watch! I watched one or two others and just subscribed. I grew up and live in Florida, but didn't grow up on the side of the family that fished, our side did the planting and harvesting, so now I'm learning about the sea! Great video as usual. Brings back memories, grew up in Miami. FYI, you don’t need a knife or shears to split the back shell of the lobster. Just have to squeeze the shell like a lemon and it will crack. Then you can use a knife to cut the meat to butterfly them for the grill.

I thought this is a really cool and interesting video as well. And I can't wait to you go back and do another one similar. Can I ask you a possible suggestion though? And maybe you already know it but can't do anything about it, but would there be a possibility that you could maybe put one of your GoPros down in the water so that we see exactly what you're doing with that particular scoop type net? It was just impossible for me as a viewer to see anything in the water while you were doing it. I've seen similar videos where people either were gigging frogs or just grabbing them, and you could see them sitting up on top of the water. I realize lobsters don't exactly do that, but if there was some way where you could maybe focus down into the water where you were getting the lobsters, it would be a lot easier for us to see it as well. That's just what I was wondering if you could do. Otherwise it looked like a heck of a lot of fun. Keep it up. God bless

I realize lobsters don't exactly do that, but if there was some way where you could maybe focus down into the water where you were getting the lobsters, it would be a lot easier for us to see it as well. That's just what I was wondering if you could do. Otherwise it looked like a heck of a lot of fun. Keep it up. God bless
Next time
Now that looks like FUN!
