  • Chlorophytum comosum, usually called spider plant or common spider plant due to its spider-like look.
We have two varieties of Spider Plants- Green one and Variegated White and Green ones - very good houseplants for Home or Office decoration. Spider plants are common green plants that are suitable for growing in a warm and humid semi-shady environment. Because their leaves and stems will naturally droop, they are generally placed at high place. although they are foliage plants, they also bloom. During the summer, spider plants may produce 2-4 tiny white flowers in clusters on long stems, as well as baby spider plants (offsets) called “pups.” The pups look like tiny spiders, hence the plant’s name!
Although spider plants are easy grow and low maintenant houseplants. If you pay attention to the following several aspects, you would grow healthier and more beautiful spider plants.
    Soil
Grow in a soil-based, well-draining potting mix. Spider plants like even moisture; they don’t like to be too dry or too wet.
    Light
Spider plants will put up with most light conditions, but will flourish in brighter spots in your home. Spider plants prefer a semi-shady environment. Strong direct sunlight should be avoided. As it could make your leaves look faded or even burn your plant leaves, cause brown tips and spots.
    watering
Spider plants like warm and humid environment, and the pot soil is easy to keep moist. Watering should be sufficient in summer. When watering, the water temperature should be consistent with the air temperature.
    fertilize
Spider plants are ornamental plants. If there is insufficient fertilizer and water, the leaves will lose their brightness or turn yellow, then their ornamental value will be reduced. So apply liquid fertilizer every two weeks during the growing season( Don't be over fertilized).
    Prune and Repot
Remove the yellow, brown and other unhealthy leaves at any time. Pruning off some of the old leaves in early or mid-May will encourage the germination of more new leaves and small spider plants.
Plan to repot a spider plant about every other year. Old roots, rotten roots and excess fibrous roots can be taken off at repotting time. Repotting in time can also avoid poor growth of plants as nutritional loss caused by roots crowdedness can be prevented.
    Propagate
You know your spider plant is thriving when new long, viney stems emerge from the centre of the plant for baby plants to grow on.
Spider plant babies are so easy to grow; you just need to cut them off from the stem and pot them in damp compost or grow them in water by using any containers. It is best to use transparent containers to grow them, so that you can also appreciate their beautiful white roots. You can transplant them into pots when you see their roots grow out or let them continue to grow in water.
    Benefits
Spider plants are not only ornamental plants, but also absorb waste gases and purify the air. In the room, they act as air filters. I hope everyone can grow healthy houseplants. Happy gardening,my friends!💓💓💓
