Great
Me too😢
Ok so I watched this video and I used some of the tips in it and my spider plants have never looked better!! They perked right up and now look so green and glossy so I just wanted to come back and say thank you because this helped me so much!!
Great stuff 👍
I started to watering my spider plant with filter water I've noticed a difference a lot less brown tips and the color is much better.
Same here 👍
Dont Over water, under water, too much light, too little light, too wet too dry, poor soil too much fertiliser 😂
And now cross your fingers and hope you guessed correctly what you did wrong.
Easy peasy 😂
The horrors of plant care: 100 causes resulting in the same symptoms
All water?
It really is trial and error. Once I found mine's sweet spot it thrived tremendously. Even sprouted babies after about a year of perfect care. Boy, was I the proud parent! Side note, you can just cut the brown tips rather than the whole leaf.
Growing up, my mom had the non-varigated variety. She always had them in the west window and they were sooo bleach out and sad looking. She wasn't very good at watering any of her houseplants and somehow I got stuck with the chore. I hated it because I had no interest in plants whatsoever back then and felt they were her plants not mine so they should be her responsibility not mine. Funny thing, once I left home I started buying my own plants and slowly over time I became obsessed with them. It's a mystery to me what the reason for my change of heart was but I'm just glad it happened.
😂 I was going to start my kids on caring for my plants. Maybe I'll wait
@@SheffieldMadePlants Lol. They maybe okay with it. Just ask rather than tell them they have to. I think as a kid, I felt I was being ordered to and I didn't like being bossed around. If mom had gently introduced me to the idea I may have been more receptive and less rebellious. I was stubborn and petulant child at times.
Oh, Really? I had a curly spider plant that I had on my western window cill that did amazing, It grew up to about knee length over the growing season (I'#ve only had it this year) and carried on growing even during the winter.
It's declining now though, has been since I moved it away from the window cill after it fell off a few months ago.
Weird thing is that my spider plant didn't look bleached out at all, it didn't have any browning tips either. It's only really developed them now that I've moved it away from the window, though, I think it's because I have it in too dark of a location now though, and I need to move it to a brighter location, I just don't have anywhere to put it at the moment due to how large it is.
1z
We're turning into our parents 😅 I never understood my moms plants before either (she made an indoor fountain with her *propagating plants, fancy!) She'd be so stoked too when she sees them fruit/flower lol, now I'm obsessed with plants and find myself calling her for help (she's not helpful, her answer's always "the plant will live with you if they want to". Shady.) 😂
My mother has one outside in the garden, it's growing amazing.
After I moved my plant on a north facing window it has improved so much !
I've been pouring tap water in a bottle and letting it stay there for 24 hrs and my 130 plants have been doing great for years now
👍👍
I really like your tip of using distilled water once a month to flush out excess buildup of minerals. It doesn't rain often where I live, so I'm going to start trying this.
This vid came at a perfect time. I just rescued a Spider Plant very recently, it’s still in ok shape so far. Thank you!
Great to hear!
I keep killing my spider plants - yet I keep buying them! I use distilled water, have my moisture meter, IDK! They say it’s one of the easiest plants to keep alive - not for me 😂 Thanks for this video.
Perhaps it's the type of soil that you have. I have a lot of spider plants and half of them are outside and they're doing fine. My plans are very sensitive to overwatering. I actually had one that always looked kind of yellow. So I thought I was watering too much but I took it out of its pot and it had fungus on the roots so I had to isolate it and trim back everything. Put it in a new pot with new soil and it's doing fantastic.
Thanks for watching!
Hmm, What's your care like? And what do they look/feel like when they die?
Yep they don't want water too much and loves full sun.
Checking way too often can be counterproductive .. There rootsystem require to be left alone for proper development .. Although it does well in indirect sunlight ,it still need a proper amount of not so harsh light and air ventilation.. With a well drained potting mix , right watering and minimal fertilizer (once or twice a year) during milder weather (spring or /autumn) shall be good enough !👍
I have a spider plant given to me April of last year. It was just a baby spiderette when I brought it home. I put it in a glass of water and let it develop good roots. Then I put it in a pot with Miracle Grow potting soil. Today it’s a beautiful thriving plant. It is in a room with south facing windows and gets bright indirect light. I recently repotted it in a slightly bigger pot. It hasn’t put out any babies yet. I think that’s because the pot is just a tad too big. I know with time, love and care she will give me some plant grandbabies.
On Richard’s advice I bought a moisture meter and don’t know how I have lived without that. I didn’t know such a thing existed until I started watching his videos. It is a life saver or should I say a plant saver!
I am a newbie subscriber and have been binge watching your videos. They are very informative and helpful. Lynda from GA, U.S.
Great stuff 👍
I bought two 5 gallon buckets from HD to catch rain water. We have had a lot of rain lately. I use a kitchen strainer to strain all the bugs and trash out of the water. So rain water is all I use to give my plants a drink. If I run out of that then I would use our well water. The pump has a filter on it.
One more thing, I bottom water my 12 plants.
I find my spider plants love diluted old, cold coffee. It sounds weird but they produce babies like crazy if I do this.
Also, if you see them get brown tips, just cut the tip off at an angle (think pretty ribbon) & you can hardly tell.
Lastly, put them somewhere in your home far far away from children or pets because their leaves are so sensitive that one can look shabby after just one tail whipping or accidental ball being flung at it.
💚
Thanks for the tips 👍
I tip out diluted okd coffe and the coffee grounds around my blueberries, rasberries, azalia, camelia--acid soil lovers. Works great. As an additional help to keep the soil pH under control.Just recentely got a small cutting of the spider plant. Doesn't do very well.Might try a bit of coffee and the strawberry mixture as a medium)
Having a container of tap water that sits for at least 24 hours before using has done wonders for my Spidey.
How does that help? Because it's actually room temp when you use it?
@cori7209 The chlorine dissipates out of the tap water if you allow the tap water to sit out 24 hours to 3 days. Chlorine can make the tips of the plant turn brown.
Sheffield you are never going to know how hardly I needed this... Thank you ❤️
Hehe thanks 😁
I'm glad this one rolled up in my u tube, I had four spider plants for many years and this year I have lost 2 already, just all of a sudden, so I'm going to try all of these things and see if I can rehab the 2 I have left thank you !!!
You bet!
Started using bottled spring water on my plants about a year ago. Big difference in how healthy they are.✌️👽
👌
I use tap water on all my plants and they are very healthy
I’ve been using tank water for some time and it dose make a difference, good advice filtering the tank water. Trimming brown tips is a great idea, I haven’t seen that before. Thank you, I love watching your videos.
@@wendyhannan2454 thank you 😁
I enjoyed this video and especially the tip about making natural looking cuts to remove brown tips!
There are products for indoor aquariums and outdoor fish ponds that remove the chlorine and other chemicals from tap/hose water supplied by municipal water companies. I use this product in all the tap water that I water my 100+ houseplants with. I also use water from my basement dehumidifier because it contains no chemicals or additives. My spider plants live outside during the warm months, and then I move them inside well prior to the first frost in my area. I do use growlights during the winter months to promote active growth in many of my houseplants, including my spider plants. I also propagate the offshoots so I can gift spider plants to friends and neighbors. I've had minimal issues with brown tips on my spider plants.
Recently, the large peace lily I bought started withering away! It’s in a self-wicking pot and I couldn’t figure out why it was so unhappy. I have always heard peace lily plants are easy to care for - not mine! It is fussy just like you described 😂 I’ve had to cut her back and try to salvage what I can. I’m hoping she recovers soon. Thank you for all your tips!
My pleasure 😊
Thank you for all the tips, and help me to not be so smothering to my plants. I have 47 in my house, but will be bring most out on my deck in the spring. I must say that your videos are my favorite. Thank you!
Your faithfully, follower Karen, from Kansas.
Thank you very much Karen 😁
Grow lights were the answer for me.
I struggled for at least a year, maybe two trying to figure out if I was over or under watering, always brown tips no matter if I tried going longer or shorter in between watering.
Got some grow lights, haven't altered my watering routine and they have perked right up.
My Aunt once told my Mom that the reason the leaves turn brown, is because they don't like to touch other plants. If you keep your spider away from other plants and touching the pot itself, they will not brown. I did that and now my spider has a long shoot growing and theres little flowers! Thank you for all your very helpful tips. I especially like the idea of cutting the brown parts off. Still have some brown leaves in Chicago.........
That's interesting. Not heard that one before. It sounds tough to not let any of the leaves touch anything!
Not buying that theory. I have one all buy itself, no other plants around it, still gets brown tips.
@@SheffieldMadePlants I feel as though that would be most likely impossible to keep the spider plant from not touching the pot. They are a prolific grower and hang very down and flow some feet from the pot!
I’ve got several spider plants and the one that never gets brown tips and always looks beautiful and perky is the one that doesn’t touch any other plant, it stands by itself and I hardly give it any attention yet it’s always gorgeous, so in my case, your suggestion has been true for me 😊
Best spider plants care video I've seen so far. Enjoyable as usual. Keep up the good work !!
Wow, thanks!
Less than a minute in and already worth watching.
Thank you 😊
I needed this today! I have a spider plant with about 5 shoots with babies! Thank you for the tips!
My pleasure 😁
I got the same & planted the babies after trimming & rooting in water.
Thank you great video as usual. My spider plants are in a window so I'll have to watch the sunlight. Also, I bought a moisture meter so hopefully I'll be watering my plants better. Really enjoy your videos
Thank you 😁
THE TAP WATER. fml, my spider plant has struggled for 25 years and all along it was the tap water. And it will continue to suffer..
This comment made me laugh out loud……good one. 😂
Could you boil it and let it sit first? Maybe that'll help
@@shilobutton5485 I sometimes fill my watering can and let it sit overnight. But actually, a few months ago I got a self-watering pot (reservoir in the bottom with wicking material going up into the pot) and my spider plant is looking WAY better than it ever has for its entire life. So maybe just drying out was the bigger problem, even though I really thought I watered it often.
I have bought Contrace which is minerals for us, but it is excellent for plants especially if they don't have great soil. Just 10 drops in their water once a month makes a big difference. My spider plant literally put on major growth and turned super dark green. The plants love it . Liquid fish fertilizer and kelp is excellent as well, just make sure you dilute it properly. I would dilute it down majorally at first to get plant use to it. Then you can increase it up to where they say over time.
Thanks for the info!
@@SheffieldMadePlants your most welcome 🤗
I was told it is the salt in the water that turns them brown. That would explain why when using distilled water the browning stops
Thank you once again. I use tropical fish water from my aquariums to feed my plants.
Perfect!
Fish tank water is the best!
Mine has started looking much better after using distilled water. I'm gonna add fert occasionally just so I don't have to repot it. It has numerous baby spiders and they're beautiful, so I want to avoid repotting or taking it off of the hanger as much as possible
Thank you for this good video.😺I have also recently watered my Calathea with distilled water. The result is great.🤩
Great stuff 👍
Thank you for all of your helpful videos. I’ve had this spider plant for maybe 2-3 years and purchased it as a baby. Soil is too moist and the tops and brown and curling and leaves are dripping. I noticed one of the sections of the plants roots are a bit higher than the soil. So maybe new soil and let it dry out a bit. I hope it doesn’t have root rot. I’ll check and snip off the bad parts and repot
You’ve got this ✊
Thank you for helping me take care of my plants
Glad it’s helpful. Thanks for watching
Thank you for sharing tips about a spider plant thank you and have a blessed day
Thank you! You too!
Omg, and, here I've been watering, smh thinking this shouldn't need water again...,BECAUSE of the brown tips!
What an extremely helpful video, thank you!
AND, I have super hard water and live in a drought region.
Thanks for watching 😁
I have two one gets indirect all day and maybe a tiny bit at sunset but not much and then one gets some evening sun and she flowered this year and they are from a huge plant i had to break down they are both making babies and one has two big ol babes lol these were my first ever plants and they are both very happy 😃
Great stuff 👍
Tip 1. Don't put it in direct sunlight.
Tip 2. Consider putting it under a grow light
I know what you're actually saying. But it still made me laugh 😂
I don't have a grow light but I do have " daylight " flood lights in the ceiling..could this substitute for sunlight? We don't get much sun in the room.
omigosh I had no idea nad Ive had them 30 yrs. Thank you!
Man, I've been doing it all wrong. My plants are in the sun, I drench them when I water them, I water from the faucet because buying distilled is pricey, the soil I bought always looks bone dry on top so I never know when they need watering, and I moved them outside where the humidity varies because they grew fungus gnats. Needless to say, there's a lot of brown and yellow in my plants. Thanks for this video, let's see if I can save my plants.
Good luck 🤞
How are your plants doing now?
I highly recommend rainwater, and if you have a fish tank, the old aquarium water after you do a water change.
@@rdred8693 Better. I found a window with bright indirect sunlight, and I give them each 1/2 cup of filtered water once a week. I still have the occasional yellow leaf and brown tip, but not nearly as much as before.
Great video! I have this issue right now with a rescued plant.... Thank you 😊
Glad it was helpful!
.. You can boil the water, cool it off, run it through a paper coffee filter and then it's ready to water the plants.. My spider plants (and others) are outside on my east side porch from May to October (just before the very first night frost).. They love it out there and they are the most beautiful when coming back in for the winter..
Sounds great!
… sounds like hard work, wouldn’t it be easier to get a water purifier? 🤔
@@autumn5852 sounds like you could just run it through a coffee maker...🤔
@@Redneckgirl74 I don’t even know how I’d put water in my coffee maker 🤔 and how long would that take 😳 my coffee maker has only got one portafilter which is only big enough for enough coffee to make 3 espresso’s, it’d take me forever. I think it’s easier to re-fill the water purifier although I am thinking of getting a bigger one since I got my plants so maybe I just prefer to do what I think are the more fun things in life rather than filling water purifiers or coffee filters 🤪 my plants are helping me with this though ☺️ but I still think I’ll get a bigger water purifier ☺️
You can use tap water, just let it sit in the bucket overnight or for a few days after the chlorine evaporates. You can grow them in an aquarium, just remove all the soil, it's great for filtration; the aquarium water has lots of oxygen and nutrients from the fish waste and also can be grown in a vase of water, just remember to remove all the soil and the water has to be changed weekly.
Thanks for the info!
The salt doesn't evaporate, sorry.
@@genderdystopia019 There's not enough salt in tap water to hurt anything, and we were talking about Chlorine in tab water. not salt.
@@DadePomsouvan tell that to someone with a water softener who will kill or severely harm their spider plant with your advice. 😂
The aquarium idea is great, though. 👍
@@genderdystopia019 You keep changing the topic; the original topic was chlorine in tap water, not in soft water. You obviously enjoy changing the topic just so you can make an argument. First, it was salt in which I stated that it is so minute, it can't hurt anything and now it is soft water, what is next? Anyone who reads your comment would know that you are full of it. Soft water is not tap water, it is filtered water and what does that have to do with the discussion of tap water, do you even know the differences? You need to watch the video before making a fool out of yourself and please learn how to start a sentence with a capital letter.
Thank you so much I really really enjoyed listening to you talk about spider plants. I wonder if you could do a video on the best way to plant up baby spider plants? As I have a great many on one plant!!!!! Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags
I think that was one of my earlier videos
Good tips for stop Brown plants leaves. Thank you so much dear....!
Thanks for visiting
Yes I have the same problem with my plant, it’s doing well i water once every month. Recently found out brown leaves on the edge….i always use rain water and fertilizer and they have been doing well for month😂but recently there is flower buds coming I think too much water also not good…
Yeah too much water will give it brown leaves too
My best spider plant is growing out of the top of one of my aquariums just in the water sucking up declorinated water and fish waste. Its awesome.
Perfect
water from the fish tank is also excellent
Yes. I've heard chlorine can cause the brown tips. When I think about it I let the water sit for awhile and hopefully the chlorine evaporates.
Thanks Faith. I wouldn't rely on the chlorine evaporating.
Sunlight kills chlorine, but it is almost impossible to get fluoride out of water. Thank you for your water tips, they are vital for where I live (coastal town in West Oz). I always suspected the tap water was wrecking our plants (and maybe the salty air!). We stopped drinking it years ago and it has helped hugely heath wise. Would love to stop having to use it externally too. I was using distilled water with my (new) houseplants, and sometimes the bottled. They were growing beautifully. Started using tap a bit due to cost, plants started to have problems. I am going back to non tap water. Thank you for your videos. I really enjoy them, and love checking out your plants in the background ♥️♥️
@@andreamaclachlan980 thank you Andrea
While chlorine will eventually dissipate, if your water company uses chloramines the water will need to be treated.
I love my spider plants! I like to take the little babies and pop them in little jars of water. For the big spider hanging baskets that I have outside, which sometimes don't get watered as much as they'd like, I feel like they're pretty resilient as long as they don't get too thirsty.
I like propping the spiderettes too
This is crazy. This is the girl that was gifted her Mom's 9 foot skinny snake plant from Canada. I'm also the girl the went on a plant buying spree yesterday. Believe it or not, three days ago my friend gifted me three spider pups. But I decided to grow them in water in this awesome glass jar. We will see how it goes. I just don't want bugs. Love and Peace.
Also two golden potho's I'm doing by water. Wish me luck.
That’ll look nice
I have a spider plant that is about 6 months old being gifted to me soon. How often should I change the soil and pot for it? And it's almost winter here in Bay City Michigan USA. So I won't be getting fertilizer for my plants until next year. I don't have any right now. But will be getting some. Thank you for your video.
Only when it gets too big for the pot. When that is depends on your conditions
@SheffieldMadePlants thank you so much I'll keep an eye on it
Hello again! Thanks for another great video. I'm a new plant parent and my next plant purchase is going to be a spider plant, so brilliant timing!! Thanks again 🌿🌿🌿
Great, thanks for watching 👍
Thanks, that was helpful. My spider plant is hanging in a bay window, but I did notice some brown tips. I'll try moving it away from the window. I've had the plant for about 3 years and it has gotten to be a good size, but it still isn't putting out any spiderettes. I've been told this doesn't happen until it is root bound. If you have an aquarium, water your plants with the used aquarium water after water change. It's got lots of good stuff in it.
Aquarium water is the gold standard 😁
Yeah, Spider plants don't release pups until it's root bound. Personally, I wouldn't suggest getting pups this way though. I'd suggest keeping it in a brighter location with extra root space whilst watering it regularly.
I have a large one that used to live on my western window cill where it used to catch around 8-9 hours of direct sunlight every day during the summer. I used to water it every five days and fertilised it every time. It didn't have any brown tips, and it actually flowered for me when it started giving out it's first pups, and I've taken hundreds of pups off of it despite only having had it since last febuary. It's actually only started declining for me now that I've moved it away from the window, but I think it's from being in too dark of a location. Plus, it isn't drying out for some reason and I'm not too sure why. I stopped fertilising it when I moved out away from the window cill until I was certain about the care changes, but it's just kinda... not absorbing water.
It's still growing, weirdly enough, but it's losing a lot of it's lower leaves in the process, and the tips have turned fairly brown similar to the over-watering example that was shown in this video.
Expanding on my previous comment- It wasn't root bound when it gave me the flower stalk, and it continued to give off both flowers and pups all through summer and even autumn. If you care for them well enough, and give them enough light, they should start giving off flowers and pups naturally. You just gotta keep up with the watering and fertilising if you decide to take that route.
My medium-sized spider plant was growing well initially. But after several months, the new leaves and new grown parts of old leaves turn very thin, brittle and light green. I already put fertilizer every now and then, but it doesn't help. What should I do? Really need your help and advice. Thank you so much !
Where does it live? Might be too much light
First of all many thks for your reply. The plant is hanging next to a south west facing window with indirect sunlight. It doesn't have brown tips problem but just there's a whole bunch of newly grown leaves which are thin and flimsy and many breaks in the middle when getting longer. I wonder if there's problem with the soil that I need to change them all? Is it because of lack of nutrient ? Thank you for your advice.
@@bonitacheng6574 potentially if you’ve not fed for a while. Have a look at the roots
Ok. I will check if there's root rot problem. Thank you.
I had 7 beautiful thriving spider plants but I recently moved from bring on the 8th floor apartment. I kept my spider plants on my enclosed window ledge year long. Since moving to a new apartment on the ground floorand we can’t put plants outside (only to get sun during the day.). I’ve lost 5 of my plants. They all died. I have two left and I’m devastated. What’s wrong with them?
I use water out of my fish tank and my plants love it
That’s such nutritious water for plants isn’t it, I use it too! I never have enough, so I’ve got to dilute it.
Fluoride and chlorine are poisonous to humans too. Let your tap water sit for a couple days and the chemicals should neutralize. Also you can use aquaria neutralizer too. That is what I do after letting tap water rest for a day or 2.
I am a very very new plant parent and am starting with a spider plan someone gave me. However, the leaves are very thin and yellow. There were some new shoots around the two main ones, but they have turned brown and wilted. I feel like I might be in over my head on this one. I love all the tips in your video and have put it in a slightly sunny area with out direct sunlight and have cut back on watering. Is there anything else I should do to help it be successful? Thanks so much for sharing so many useful tips with us.
Sounds like you’re doing the right things. If it’s wilting maybe it’s drying out? The tips in the video are the key ones for this plant really.
@@SheffieldMadePlants thank you so much for responding. I really appreciated your video because it was informative without being intimidating, with your approach and tips I feel like I just might be able to nurture this baby back to life, I will just be referring to this video ALOT. Thank you again.
Wondering if you have any advice on plants that have been exposed to smoke (not heat) from a house fire? Are they safe to bring into another home and any suggestions on cleaning them and if they should be repotted? Thank you.
Hmm really not sure. Never had that problem luckily. I'd say you're fine to bring them back in if they're alright and a repot might be a safe bet
I'm new to the plant world and i've put the spider plant my neighbour gave me in plain dirt, in front of a south oriented window and watered it with tap water and the thing is absolutely thriving lol no brown tips and a vibrant deep green colour, beginners luck i guess
Would the water from my dehumidifier be ok or better than tap water?
I use it for my plants 👍
I’ve had my spider for 4 years now, and I’m only now learning it’s not the normal variety. I’ve a reverse variegated spider… nice
Ah so the white part is on the outside?
@@SheffieldMadePlants yep, I was checking ta see if the border between colors was faded and then frantically googled ‘spider plant look alikes’ lol
I switched to using filtered water and presto no more brown tips on any plants. I also switched from using potting soil to Aroid soilless medium which drains and breathes well.
👍👍👍
I also want to say thank you for your pruning tips. I haven't been a prunner, but you are converting me. I ruthlessly prunned some spider plants this morning that seem to have become infested with something. Actually, whatever it is is devouring a lot of my spiders. I am now hoping to get rid of the infestation by cutting it out.
On a side note, you spoke on another video and a little on this one about cutting off the brown bits, particularly leaves. I sit outside in the mornings to pray and read my Bible, I love to sit and look at my mini garden. With some 40+degree weather we have had recently (West Australia) some of the plants got a bit of burning. One of my umbrella trees in particular had a bad patch on a leaf. I thought about trimming it as you suggested on your video, but then yesterday when I went out, a critter had beat me to it. I was intrigued that all the burnt bit had been eaten, leaving just a scant rim of the burnt material all along the edge. The green part was untouched. It got me thinking, if this is God's design, to leave a margin of the already damaged leaf so that it doesn't have to re-heal another edge, then perhaps I should take note and trim this way. If I remember correctly, you trimmed and shaped your leaves, leaving green healthy leaves exposed? I worried that these could also brown with healing, or be open to infection. Perhaps a better way is to keep a small margin of the already sealed leaf. It may not look as good, but may yield a healthier result???
You might be on to something 🤔 Give it a go and let me know if it works please
Great comment about our plants not looking perfect! mine never have and maybe never will, but so long as i do my best i can always except that. Even my Triostar is in good shape not perfect but good none the less.
Great vid mate thanks.
Cheers 👍
Spider plant also love Milk. Half a glass do wonders try it 😊
Thanks for watching!
I only put my spider plants in water no soil using tap water and there very healthy and very easy to to look after?
I'm wondering how to filter rain water. What would you suggest? Thank you for your informative video's!
Need some sort of mesh to screen the bits and bobs out
I really enjoy your videos, especially the fact that they always have great tips in them.
Would be interested in making a video about the plants that should absolutely be watered with distilled water?
Thank you for the suggestion 👍
Please make a video about stunted grow and how to avoid it, fix it!
🤔
When changing the soil when root bound how do i get rid of the old soil around the roots without damaging the roots? Eveytime i try use my fingers to break up/pull out out the soil i end up not being able to get rid of the soil without a good bit of force which inevitably breaks a lot of the roots
Do you need to get rid of the old soil? Is it bad? Soaking the whole thing and rinsing off the soil can help
@@SheffieldMadePlants Well I assumed you had to remove it when refreshing the soil? if you don't remove it how else are you going to have space for fresh soil as that mass that the roots wrap around is the majority of soil in the pot. I've tried the soaking thing which does help but it's time consuming if doing a lot of plants and ones that are big as you have to soak for a good amount of time for it to work say around 15 to 30 mins I find, would this not encourage root root too or would it be ok as a one off now and then? Thanks.
oh cool about the cutting away the brown tips...thx for all the great iinfo...from Northern Canada
You bet!
I have a few spider plants and a few large I keep my largest one in full sun if you introduce it to the sun in early spring and over a couple weeks slowly put closer to full sun I can handle it most plant can if you do this
I have a water filter for my drinking/cooking water. Hopefully that water is okay for my spider plant.
I have found with trimming the brown tips off, that if you cut through the main vein through the middle of the leaf(regardless of type of plant) the brown tip will only grow back. if you leave a TINY amount of the brown on it when trimming, it will not. So, why in the world do they keep coming back otherwise on this plant?
I guess the environment needs to change…
@@SheffieldMadePlants I do too. I have added a humidifier to that end of the house. Just to give it a bit of moisture. I have found that they enjoy it more than I thought.
Great video, as usual. I need to check my soil and upgrade it and the water I use. Have a water butt, so I'm going to use that.
Thanks 😊
mine do well in the window in winter (summer its a in the shade) I just let the leaves die back.
What is the best soil for them? 2 years ago I planted some with a bag of soil my parents had at home. They grew big and healthy and I gave a couple of them to friends. Well a couple months ago my dad threw away my spider plants in the compost saying they were "dead" when they were totally normal and healthy! I ran into the garage and dug them out of the compost, he destroyed them by ripping up all but one and I also managed to save a couple of clippings. This really breached my trust. But I went to the store right away to get soil to replant them, asked the man in the garden section and he told me Miracle-Grow but it made my plant sick and caused it to grow mold in the dirt and I know it's the soil since I only water once a week and I give it plant food too like normal. Then I tried AGAIN with another soil brand. Thankfully it's not molding, but my plant is turning brown even though I'm doing everything else right. I wish my plants never got thrown away otherwise this would have never happened. Can someone please help me by letting me know a good brand of soil for spider plants?
I don’t have a particular brand I use. I just buy bags of compost from my local garden centre. Maybe someone else has a good brand
@@SheffieldMadePlants thank you, I'll check around and try a compost bag if I can find one. Anyone else with suggestions would be appreciated as well. Thank you!
I cut the brown tips of like you do. They just keep getting brown up the leaves
I guess whatever the issue is remains
Luv luv luv your work,
Thanks for sharing
Please make fidget jewelry n a planet/galaxy pendants, please😊
Thanks!
i have never seen a spider plant in estonia (northern europe) with white stripes. they are all dark green color and if they get too much sun, they go light green but no white stripe
Коли я пересаджувала росли5у часто , то вона не мала сухих кінців . Я зрозуміла що в грунті накопичуються солі і це шкодить рослині .Дякую за відео !
🙏🤩 thx for the vid - I have several spider plants - I’ll try some of these tips
My pleasure 😊
I put diatomaceous earth on the soil, then river rocks on top, decent sun
I have this plant and alot of them lol, I wonder if my dads allergies are because of this plant its next to a A/C and wondering if its causing his allergies
Awesome...when you bottom water how long do you give your plant to drink what they need before discarding the excess?
I have about 15 spider plants. I give all my indoor plants 10-15 minutes to drink. Then I dump the excess water.. not sure what he recommends, but it works for me. Half of my plants are outside and all are doing great.
Cool thank you
What Elizabeth said 😁
Is that for all your plants or just your spider plants? I have some plants that suck up all the water in a matter of a couple minutes and I usually add more water ...I just wanted to make sure my plants have a great chance so I was getting a real person's advice and not like some stuff I've seen on the net
@@kbm4409 For all my plants. If it sucks it up right away then it needs more. Don't be shy about topping up
Tks ...Pak sudah berbagi ilmu nya👍
You bet!
Is there a difference between watering with distilled and filleted water? I filter my tap water and I always use that water for my plants. Is it still better that I use distilled water?
Distilled is more pure i think. Either is probably fine
Spider plants start to go a dull green-grey when they need watering. They'll revert to their typical bright greem colour in around 8 hours once the moisture level's been restored.
love your channel.. can you do a video on ponytail plants?? thanks
I need to get the plant first 😅
Hello❤ thank you so much for your helpful content. I have alot of spider plants which lives perfectly fine in water. Will they be able to give babies or I should transfer them into soil to have babies?. Thanks in advance
I think they should. Never tried spider plant in water though
Thank you dear❤
Thank you Mr Sheff' : )
My spider plant is such a pale shade of green which white middles, and it doesn’t stand up at all. It’s more like a hanging plant instead of standing up like some pictures I see
Is it in a sunny spot?
@@SheffieldMadePlants yes! Not the sunniest but it’s in the middle of a room with a big window. I JUST today repotted all of my plants, so I’m hoping some fresh soil will help!
I have a quick question, I am sorry if I missed it in one of your videos, what is the best ways to remove hardwater marks on leaves? When I googled this, I found suggestions like diluted vinegar, diluted soap, even milk! I tried just wiping leaves with a damp cloth but the waterstains remain. Thank you SO much! 😊
You can try lemon juice diluted with water.
@@SheffieldMadePlants thank you 😊
My spider plant gave me a lovely flower last summer do i need to repot it as it is very large now
Only if it’s badly rootbound. Check the roots to see if they are suffocating in the pot
i only use my distilled drinking water no exceptions yes it will be costly but worth it
Is it possible that you do an experiment using tap water vs well water vs rain water? I love your vids and this would be very cool and informative 🥰👍
Nice suggestion. Trouble is I have no idea where I can access to a well 😅
@@SheffieldMadePlants I live in central Indiana and I know plenty of people with well water. I'm afraid to use well water on my plants bcse it's very heavy in minerals and farmland fertilizers....
