    If you want to get a lot of experience grafting, but don't have the several rootstocks, I made grafts back onto trees they came from. Trying different types of grafts, saves precious rootstock while you learn

    Be very careful about July and even early August bud grafting. You want the bud to knit itself into the rootstock, BUT NOT START GROWING IN THE SAME SEASON. Grafting in july in my region (Pacific Northwest), is a near certain way to get late season growth that is weak.

    So harvest bud graft in late summer and keep for one winter. Next spring plant the graft on tree ?

    • @rafaelramos441
      @rafaelramos441 2 роки тому +1

      No, best results are to graft immediately. Allow several weeks for the chip to heal unto the stock. Then, overwinter the entire potted tree without further modification until Spring. When new growth commences in the Spring, make a sloping cut 2 cm above the bud. This will cause the grafted bud to begin growth, (as well as competing auxiliary buds.) All competing buds must be removed as soon as they emerge.

      The cultivars must be matched to the season when the cambium is in active growth. This is while the branches are growing thicker in diameter.

      Multiple grafts strategically spaced on the rootstock. The resulting limbs must be kept in balanced growth by judiciously pruning back the limbs showing excess vigour.

    • @PTESwildlifevideos

      Best not to in Feb/March because the buds in the leaf axil won't be ready so you are less likely to get success! If you want to graft in Feb/March check out our Bench Grafting video :)

      so if yo graft in july, august and leave the bud graft till nxt spring the total number of months will take 8 months to take ? is that not a bit long?

    • @agpawpaw5912
      @agpawpaw5912 4 роки тому

      Abdul Rahman Dhillon. In 2-3 weeks if your budding is successful it will heal and fuse onto the tree. Growth will begin the next year. I’m usually leaving stem out. So in few weeks if stem easily brake off your grafting is successful. If it’s dry and not easy to brake, your budding is failed. Do it again

    • @rafaelramos441
      @rafaelramos441 2 роки тому

      @@thebeesnuts777 No, there's no growth during Winter, so the tree will remain in a holding pattern until bud break in Spring.

    • @SeekAndDestroyTM
      @SeekAndDestroyTM Рік тому

      @@thebeesnuts777 yes but there are upsides. First, you can graft using a single bud instead of a scion with multiple buds. It's also much easier to bud or chip graft than to spring graft. I like spring grafting for putting new varieties in my garden, and bud grafting for making new trees.
