Modern phones aren't allowed to blast high energy radio frequencies anymore so these regulations have long since been outdated. Same thing with no cellphones near pace makers or hospitals. Nowadays even pacemaker users are allowed to use smartphones.

Don’t mislead people. The only radio frequency that is remotely close to 5G 3.7 to 3.98GHz is the radio altimeter at 4.2 to 4.4GHz, which is only useful at 2500ft and below and eventually WAAS LPV will be the new Radio Alt. New C-band and RF Filters Regs start next year too. I’ve been on hundreds of ground test and test flights on private jets including BBJ’s in which we check all channels and not once has there ever been a cell phone interference.

You can use WiFi while on airplane mode. Airplane mode blocks cell service, but not Bluetooth or WiFi

@@my_name_is_google2462 No it can’t. If a large amount of the passengers didnt turn it on, it could create a small amount of feedback in the Pilots headset and radio. It would be enough to be annoying to the Pilots but it wouldn’t affect communications, especially not enough to cause it to crash.
