Air India's old livery had a very unique cheatline. The windows were surrounded by a bezel that resembled an old Indian Palace. Above and below the windows were red stripes. The cheatline went well with the Maharajaesque service in the flights.
I can't believe no one's mentioned Alaska Airlines' cheatlines! They had a few throughout the years, but my favorite has to be the classic black and green (or black and red for 2000s era Horizon) on a white background. Simple, but instantly recognizable as Alaska.
I absolutely LOVE the bare aluminum and "hockey stick" blue lines of Eastern on the TriStar, such a beautiful and iconic look on an equally beautiful and iconic jet.
@@jovanholland36 and the good news is, G-BYGC (The BOAC Retro 747-400) is preserved in St. Athan Airfield. If you get the chance, visit the place and you'll see it up close.
I miss the cheatline liveries of Northwest Airlines (the latest livery before merging with Delta Airlines), Continental Airlines (both black and red meatball logo), TWA (the later livery before they went bankrupt, and merged with American Airlines), Pan Am (Both liveries), American Airlines (bare metal), United Airlines (Tulip), and Delta Airlines (the widget livery).
I always loved the Northwest Orient Airlines livery which was equally as radical as the UTA livery which was an early introduction to the euro white trend but with a navy blue tail highlighting goofy green doors on the fuselage.
Honestly, I agree with the cheatline staying, I just agree with the decision to make the logo look a little more minimalistic to stay with today's standard's, but could've made the cheatline more saturated. With the old livery, I just didn't completely like that weird silver thing.
@@mangobaby_videoshonestly when I look at the livery on the new American Airlines I just can’t quite see a good cheat line working, maybe a darker silver but that probably it also I’m sorry but I just absolutely hate billboard liveries, I think they only work good on long jets like the 747, 777-300er, 767-400, and 787-9/10

You could always spot the Air Zim planes at the airports in Europe because it stood out. It was one of the few that didnt have some shade of blue in their livery or cheatlines.
American Airlines’ old cheatline livery was just pure art, exactly what I visualized of American Airlines as a kid. LOT Polish Airlines' aircrafts used to have livery with large "LOT" logo in front section of fuselage and cheatline, both in dark blue. Well, this cheatline was removed in 2010 with introduction of new LOT's livery.
In no particular order: Trans-Canada Airlines, Air Canada's red cheatline and tail, Eastern's 'hockey stick', TWA, older Pan Am, Western (started as a large 'W' which became the cheatline).
I've flown on one of the Qantas "retro roo" 737-800 aircraft. I think it's fun. The special event liveries like for the 100th anniversary of Qantas are cool too.
I am a fan of the cheatline. My favourite has to be American Airlines, as it was a long lasting distinctive paint/polished aluminum scheme. Second favourite would have to be VARIG's 1970s blue and white cheatline. Air China stil sports a 1970s style cheatline livery to this day, which I think looks right smart on the 747-8 and the 777-300. Thanks for stirring up some memories of old.
Real classic; I would say Delta’s “Classic Widget Dark Nose”. Something about the the paint scheme just did it for me. Now for throwbacks? I have to giving it to JetBlue. They made one up and it’s rocking!

Personally, SQ's cheatlines have always been iconic and only varied by a small amount since its introduction. I do like Air India's palace window cheatline, if you can even call it that
My favourite cheatline livery is definitely the old First Air livery. It had an astounding 4 lines to it. From top to bottom it went yellow, orange, pink/ salmon, purple, and just before the R1 and L1 doors the top sloped down into a point.
When i was younger I loved seeing American airlines old livery that was all bare metal look because I knew that it was a American airlines plane flying over head even at high altitude
Southwest Airlines is doing some pretty great things with custom liveries these days. I saw an epic American Flag 737 at National airport in dc a few days ago
Most of the airlines should go back to the drawing board and redesign with inspiration from the past. I always like the retro liveries thrown onto a few aircraft for special occasion, but it would be nice if they incorporated some of that today onto all of their aircraft, but put a modern day spin on it. So many liveries now feel “corporate” and less inspirational. Thankfully, overall I think many are doing a much nicer job on the interior designs, like color schemes, materials and lighting. (Legroom not included.)
Earlier this year I flew in the Qantas 737-800 in their old livery, as was shown in this video. The livery is called "Retro-roo", which stands for "retrospective-kangaroo". Love it.
My favorite one was Eastern Airlines Hockey stick livery. The baby blue with the dark blue on the silver made it very appealing, very attractive to the eye. To me the silver was very striking and blues very hypnotic.
Hard to pick any single favourite. But there are 2 that stood out for my personal taste, and that they hold a certain amount of nostalgia too. BOAC, and the humble DAN AIR. others that would have made a short list include WardAir Canada, Air UK/ UK leisure, and Singapore Airlines.
The other day I saw a quite nice thing. It was a 3D render of a plane with a tri-coloured cheatline, except that it was braided. Now that looked unique! Darned if I can ever find it again.
My favorite cheatlines on a plane are those currently on MEA airline’s A320 - 200 historical livery with a beautiful red stripe. A must see for all plane spotters!
I iiked Aerolineas Argentinas late 1970s to late 1990s livery with the cheatline expanding into the company's initials on the tail. When they came out with the new livery a lot of people hated it. I don't dislike it, but it honestly took me sometime to get used to it.
I liked the old Dan Air cheat line from the 70s with the black-edged red stripe which continued up and then covered the tail around their compass logo.
You’d be able to interpret a cheatline as a standard or a baseline for the plane’s design. Notice the Singapore Airlines livery with its bottom gold line followed by some blue lines and the words ‘SInGAPORE AIRLInES’ at the top. It is subtly saying the airlines is always above gold standard.
I liked everything about American's old livery: the font, the stripes, and the bare metal.
So did I! The shiny bare metal made the American jets really stand out. It looked almost like chrome.
Mmmm… CHROOOOME!
