There are hiding places for Ms. Pac-Man called "holds". Here's how you can get into them. Make sure the ghosts do NOT "see" you get into them or they'll follow you.
From someone who actually beat ms pacman in the arcade at 7 years old, just remember that the ghosts WILL eventually break through these holds, so they should be used strategically. If I were a content maker, I'd show you how to CONSTANTLY go through ghost, and how to beat the black stage.
You're right. The ghosts will change mode after some time. The A.I. from the ghosts in Pac Man is the same as in Ms. Pac Man. However, some durations of the modes are different. See for instance these 2 references: www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/132330/the_pacman_dossier.php?page=3 gamesmuseum.pixesthesia.com/games/mspacman/mspacprj/mspacprj.html After 20 seconds the ghosts reverse for the "last time". Then they'll stay in "chase mode" for 17 minutes. Then they reverse again like you said. So the "holds" will work after 20 seconds for a long time. I always count till ten after the pink one left the pill box and then the ghosts will reverse and they'll behave predictable. :-)
Okay but how did you do it with only 3 lives 😂we have an original Ms pac man machine and can’t figure it out lol congrats to you as a 7 year old that’s a huge accomplishment

Ha ha. ;-) For one, back in the day in the arcade, it would give you the opportunity to take a sip from your Coke. Secondly, it enables you to get the ghosts together in a group so you can eat all 4 of 'm when you lure them to an energy pill. Grouping ghosts (as tightly together as you can) is a very important technique in Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man. Thirdly it's cool to demonstrate that we humans have cracked the computers AI and that we can fool the ghosts. ;-)
Yes and no. The AI of the ghosts is the same in Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man. However, the mazes are different. There is a famous hold in Pac-Man if you put him - facing upwards - in the inverted "L" on the lower right part of the maze. Google it. See this excellent website: www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/3938/the_pacman_dossier.php?print=1 . If you're very clever then you can get the ghosts circle the pill box in regular Pac-Man. That works because in regular PM the ghosts are not allowed to go up at certain spots in the maze. Again, see the link. And remember: the ghosts have two modes: *chase* and *scatter* (see link). The holds only work in chase mode. Good luck! :-)
@Cody Putnam That's weird. If you look at the video you'll see that they do. It's not easy however. The ghosts may not see you! You cannot simply go into the 'holds', first you must group the ghosts. As far as I know there are no different versions of the original Ms. Pac Man, like w/ the original Pac Man itself. The ROM's name "Puckman harder" etc. are the ones in which the holds for that game do not work anymore. Also remember that this of course only works in the real original arcade hall version of the game in MAME (mamedev.org). Doesn't work in the NES version or what have you not. Good luck trying. :-)
Been trying on the ps4. Arcade classic edition of the game, I assumed it would work since the old galaga no fire cheat still works in it's respected port
+Cody Putnam That Classic Collection may be the same as the Classic Collection that came out for the PS1 back in the day. Very good version of the game, very close to the original arcade version. I thought they were the originals. But some PSX versions had the top and bottom of the original arcade screen at the side. So they might have changed something... Remember that the TV screens in the orig. arcade cabinets were rotated 90 degrees. So their aspect ratio was not 4:3 but 3:4. This always has been a problem for ports that bring the classics to a screen w/ an aspect ratio of 16:9 (wide screen TV) or 4:3 (classic TV). Mame uses the orig. ROMs extracted from the arcade cabinets. The other ports? Well, I don't know. Classic Collection for the PSX: www.google.nl/search?q=classic+collection+PSX&client=ubuntu&espv=2&biw=1920&bih=995&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjvovLsuNDMAhViF8AKHTo4De8QsAQIHg The reason, by the way, that the holds work (there's one for Pac Man too) is because the ghosts in Pac Man and Ms. Pac Man have the same AI. However, there's an error in Pinky's AI. See: gameinternals.com/post/2072558330/understanding-pac-man-ghost-behavior under "The Pink Ghost". Highly recommended is The Pac Man Dossier too: www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/3938/the_pacman_dossier.php?print=1 Good luck in trying to fool the Ghosts. :-)
The first one shown in the video works for me. I am also on the new version of the game, "Arcade Game Series: Ms. Pac-Man," except I'm on X1 and not PS4. All versions of the game should be identical though. Thanks for the video. I just wish it showed the holds in later levels =)
Ha ha. There appear to be holds in the later levels. I have some documentation of that, but it's from 1984. I've not seen anyone actually pull it off yet. Another problem is that I am not good enough in playing Ms. Pac Man to try it in later levels. BTW, in Mame there are some settings in the ROM from the real original Arcade Machine. Those settings make the game "behave" different. There is the dip-switch setting "normal" and "hard". I bet that in the "hard" setting the holds do not work.

There was no such thing as beating pacman because the game played indefinitely
@@Some_One_One NO. The last set of mazes are black bro. A lot of boards repeated themselves, but there's an ending.

Fun fact: in pac man 30th anniversary doodle, if you start it up but not touch the controls, you will be safe indefinitely.
It does not work!!!!!! Why?
@@kd22222 cause you’re gullible

What good is the hold anyway? You just sit there not wracking up points or progressing? Am I missing something?

I'm afraid it is, yes. ;)
It doesn’t go where I tell it to half the time smh
cooooooooooool
Cool don't know 👍🏿
Try it yourself! Its fun and it works. But only on the "real" original ROM. Make sure that the ghosts do not "see" you going into the holds.
Does this work for normal PAC man?
