Absolutely spot on These Japan High School students are world class leaders in brass band and dancing. They dedicate their time to 40 hours a week over 7 days after school as finished, including weekends and holidays. And by the way, they have to pay for the trip, lots of families in America offer them free lodging to help them with costs. And also while they are here they do several charitable events. I think this year it was for the California Fire Department and Rescue.
🎉 WOW! I was already blown away by their hard work and dedication just seeing the way they navigated that sharp corner on the parade route. As a former marching band kid and now a parent of 2 band kids this was just amazing to watch, Definitely is not easy. What an incredible group of performers! I hope their family and friends are safe back in Japan after the earthquake 🤞
TOHO had a long way to go from the time they were chosen until they marched in the parade. I followed their improvements along the way. For me it appeared a hard journey for TOHO, but they held on, worked hard and turned in a wonderful performance at the Rose Parade. In fact, their special handling of "the TURN" was unexpected and to me, the highlight of the whole parade. Watch it again and listen to the gasp and admiration from the crowd. The local Pasadena newspaper highlighted the turn on their website. Plus, TOHO also displayed their fancy footwork to the delight of the crowd. Back in 2016, I commented that that year's performance in the Rose Bowl Parade was TOHO finest hour. But I would say that 2024 was TOHO's greatest hour. Arigato, all of TOHO, for the hard work you put in for this appearance. I appreciate and honor you.
Great show presence by Toho! My wife and I attended the Bandfest on Saturday. We both LOVED YOUR PERFORMANCE! It seems to me that Japanese High School bands bring their best each and every show! Thanks to each band member and to all of the instructors and support staff! Go Toho!
WOW indeed, I'll agree with cynthiarobinson. Toho deserves all the applause they got, and then some. Like other Japanese bands they move with style and grace and get the audience involved and energized, and to keep this up for 5+ miles takes a lot of energy and the desire to do it.... and do it well. Very impressed with the instrumentation and musical abilities of these kids. The Drum Major was especially well trained and the kids knew who was in charge. Remembering that they are all just between 15 and 18, perhaps with a few alumni sprinkled in the ranks, they belonged here!! Keeping the traditions and legacy of Toho alive and well. From a host family of other Japanese groups, this was a job well done. Domo Arigatou..... Hope to see you back in few years. Job well done MusicAmenities......
"they are all just between 15 and 18" is true for the Toho High School musicians but not the Aichi Toho University musicians. This Green band combines musicians from Aichi Toho University and the Toho High School to make a total of 176. In the Band's Video appeal for donations, the Toho Marching Band said "With the declining birth rate and the Corona Virus, the number of members in the club is on the decline". (But the the number of members of the Kyoto Tachinbana SHS Band is INCREASING every year)
Would expect Nothing less than Perfection from Japanese marching band!-lol...Was waiting to hear if they were going to break out "Kikaida theme!"...Ichiban, Toho...Ichiban!

東邦は凄いなぁ。規律がしっかりしつつも独自の見せ方、見せ場もあり１番好きなマーチングバンドです。

東邦、みせますね〜。マーチングバンドがこんなにかっこいいとは思いませんでした。このコメ書く前に色々な投稿で他のバンドもチェックしましたが、断トツ! ユニフォームのセンスも凄くいい。兎に角かっこいい。高校生で、それも他に比べて少人数で、あれだけの演技をしたことに脱帽です!

新年早々、エネルギッシュな演奏をありがとうございます。日本では悲劇的な災害に見舞われた地域があり、気が気でないメンバーもいることかと思います。しかし、少なくとも私は、皆さんの演奏のおかげで鬱屈とした状況で終わってしまうことなく、多少ながら明るく2024年を始められそうです。
私も同じ思いです。演奏を見て聴いて勇気をもらいまさた😭😭
改めて選曲とユニフォームが重要だと感じました。

探しても動画がないのですが、今年はナッツ ベリー ファームでは演奏しなかったんですかね？😢

他のコメントにて吹奏楽とマーチングと部活動が分離したみたいです。
卒業生さんはいらっしゃるかも知れませんが今回はひとりひとりの負担額が多く諦められた方もいらっしゃるかもと推測しました。
選曲等や人数に影響はあったと思います。それを考えると本当によくやったと思います!
グリーンバンドで参加は単に日本代表ではなくアジア・オセアニアの代表。
