    It is important to note that there's an audience of children playing this game and for them spending money is a whole different deal and they should probably talk openly about it with their parents. Been there done that. If you're reading this and you're still in a phase where you're spending your parents' money, don't hide it from them. Nothing good will come out of that. Openness and trust is always the correct option.

      I'm super curious about the demographic. From what I've found, the majority of players have been millenials. My primary audience demo is around that age as well. My son plays and is 14 and has 1 friend who plays as well. But I wonder how many kids are playing

      This is exactly the way to think about it ... if you log on daily just to do your missions, which can take up to an hour ... you've spent $10 the month for 30 hours worth of entertainment. And this is ignoring all the extra goodies you get along with the pass.

    Thanks for sharing your experience and life story. I am totally agree with you on the supporting the season pass once in a while to keep the game running.
    I understand where you are coming from regarding mobile game with PC game. My background, I am 40 years old guy who work as programmer who play game like StarCraft, warcraft 3 etc.
    I bought the StarCraft 2 when it launch but hesitated to buy the 3 expansions. In contrast I have spend more than $500 on game microtransaction on Brave Frontier which is mobile RPG game which is P2W that need to get card using lottery system. The game experience we had in childhood is dying because the profit margin is higher using microtransaction in free to pay game compare to one off purchase.
    Also the p2w experience we got when spending money. Like StarCraft 2 getting the premium version only had cosmetic on one of the unit I will still in Bronze tier every season but just spend $10 to get Silver surfer it is added advantage when I just started in pool 3 last seasons. I basically never run into any Silver surfer deck in the beginning of last season and reach Infinity within week 1.

    • @bootmanmstz
      @bootmanmstz  2 роки тому +2

      hahaha I'm open to hearing your logic any time. I listen to hundreds of non-fiction books each year and retain more information than most.
      The other thing you have to consider is people with disabilities. I've known dyslexic people who can only do books via audio. Should we say, "Welllll, you're not actually reading"
      Again, just like "it's a mobile game", however you're getting the information from the author's brain to yours has the same result regardless of the medium

    • @GregJourdan
      @GregJourdan 2 роки тому +1

      @@bootmanmstz Oh yeah, I get you. It's tough, because to some extent I still think Snap is a mobile game lol. I have a better experience playing full mobile games on emulator than I do Snap on its own PC client. It's not terrible, but it's clearly an after-thought (see the abence of web client in it, to mention only that).
      On reading, I am really not trying to talk audio books down, but even you are bringing examples that differentiate the two, right? I personally have a much harder time reading at this point, and I have listened to a few audio books, so there's a difference there. The most obvious is focus and attention span. As much as I'd love for it to not be the case, it's probably the reason why I ain't reading as much. Another obvious one would be you clearly aren't going to get better at spelling through audio.
      I think people would tend to say books are more likely force you to pay attention than listening, that being said you have offered examples otherwise. Again though, it doesn't matter which medium "wins" on either of these, they'll still be proven different :D
      I see how I am being quite pedantic there though, so yeah. Hope that was mildly interesting.

    Great video. I worked in video game marketing analytics for a cross platform title (mobile/PC). There's a significant reason to discuss mobile game vs PC because consumer behavior and perception is different than PC games. Average revenue per user and cohort of spending DAU are significantly different. Especially in the US market. Here's some baseline behavior backed by data circa 2020. Like mobile gamers are twice as likely to spend money and US folks spend the most globally. (Basically 30% of ppl spend on mobile vs 15% PC) Spending isn't uniform in that 30%. It follows a power law distribution -- like 20% of all spenders are spending 80% of the money.

    Hey Bootmaan!! So, I don't know what the economic situation is in the US. But here in Brazil, where our currency is 5x cheaper than the dollar. We put a lot of thought into buying something in the game. The Season pass here, costs 49.99 in the version with 10 levels, costs 69.99. Thank God I have this money and I can support myself every month as a competitive player. I understand people who want to be f2p but if you want to level up and maybe become a professional you need the cards. Here, we'll manage saving gold, making accurate purchases and avoiding nonsense like the Spider-man and Sandman bundle.

    I’ve been watching creators for a long time , playing card games going on 30+ years now as well .
    I see this all the time .
    You get an audience by commenting on a game , then after getting a decent following you start saying more hyperbolic crap to get attention . Just like with the news headlines get the attention .. at the same time , most the time with the news the content of the article usually is opposite of the headline .. but that doesn’t matter because most people just see the headline and move about their day .
    I’m saying this because I like your channel, while I agree with a lot of the content in this video .. just saying becareful with your headlines , they might help you get clicks but if enough content creators start following suit .. it can hurt more than so good . Thanks for you context , big fan keep up the great work !

    the battle pass is so good for only $10 compared to other games, the quest are great, i got busy in December and only had 6 days left and no progress on the BP but the quests basically allowed me to complete it in 4 days (might have been sooner but the last few were still locked initially) plus the amount of gold, credits and variants you get leading to tier 50 alone is usually almost a $100 value if you look at the rates to buy that kind of stuff all separately (im marking all the variants and mystery variants as the 700 gold price for this) so you basically get $90 worth of content on average for free,
    the other stuff like buying gold credits and variants individually i do think is a bit over priced and the bundles though technically money efficient but only because the individual prices are high like the sunspot bundle was $80 usd worth of gold you had to spend get 8000 credits 2000 tokens, a variant, a title and an avatar now you saved money cause buying 8000 credits separately is around $90 so you basically payed for the credits and got the other stuff for free so in a vacuum its money efficient but realistically paying $80 or $90 for those credits is insane and the resources are the bigger draw then the variants since you need credits to help progress and get cards they just throw that stuff in there to make people feel better about the bigger price tags imo at least

    I honestly agree with what is being said, the season pass $10 is a decent price, you don't have to spend it (I didn't when black panther was out because I was still getting into the game), but it helps and honestly I don't feel bad for the purchase (minus that it could come with 500-1000 collectors tokens, to sweeten the deal).
    Variants are cool, some I've wanted, but not bad enough to spend the money/gold it takes, especially for some of the nicer ones.
    Collectors tokens and the rate you receive them, as of now, including the bundles and their worth, is just not affordable for most, that's truly the one thing needing a rework (easily solved by putting them in seasons, giving more incentive for people to buy).

    If you can afford it, it's great to support the companies that make the games. However, one important thing to keep in mind is that because of different currencies around the world and different standards of living, the season pass isn't $10 in those places. For example, where I live the season pass cost $13, I know it's not a big difference but for most people in my country, it can buy food for a few days.
    You also brought up a good point, content creators spend a lot of money on this game and that money comes from UA-cam revenue. People sometimes forget that.

    Nice video my thing is why this not on consul seeing that’s it’s on pc. The reason it’s considered a mobile game is the pricing of bundles if they lowered it could go to consul. Plus the developers told me it’s a mobile game first before pc. I asked them this on their discord page. That was the answer I got from Ben. It’s a mobile game. The reason it’s on pc because you can add mobile games to other platforms. Playstation and Xbox has mobile games too. You can tell a mobile game by the way the game is built. I’m not trying to argue here. I play both pc, consul, and mobile and you can tell the difference.

  • @greuju
    @greuju 2 роки тому +1

    It being mobile isn't an issue. When most people say that they include the mobile pricing model and games as a service or whatever it's called.
    For me the amount of money it takes to complete a collection is too high and it's near impossible to complete a collection f2p.
    The sweet spot is getting the season pass and utilizing your cards fully.
    And saving up your gold for a bundle you want.
    It's less fun than rolling everyday but you can use the variants in your incomplete collection and that's the only way to get the tokens to buy cards in bulk.

    As someone from a country that doesn't use USD, it's even worse, the season pass for me costs 50 and the Starlit bundle 250, and the minimum wage is 1200, so it's salty. But I agree, the season pass is the only thing it's worth it, I've bought the last 3 season pass, but I gotta say, this season pass doesn't appeal to me, Zabu is a great card and the big reason to buy it, but it's not an interesting character to me, I didn't like theme, the variants, avatars, nothing, and the random variants will probably be all pixel variants, so is kinda of mixed feelings, in a way it feels like it's worth it, and the other way feels like there's a lot of trash to make you feel it's a good deal. I might buy it since I don't smoke, drink, I'm not even a party guy, and separate money for games and hobbies, but this season pass really didn't interest me.

    As a game designer I can tell you why it matters that it's a 'mobile game' and not a 'PC game', since I've worked on both types.
    Mobile games, or rather their monetisation, tend to target so called 'whales', people who spend hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars per week on a game. For some reason, there are quite a few of those and it's profitable to make prices higher, because whales will spend money anyway.
    On PC prices are much more reachable for a regular player, like if you compare Hearthstone to this, well, there's no comparison as to what you get for $100.
    So it matters in this sense, that this is a 'mobile game', because their monetisation tactics are much more 'scammy' and aggressive and targeting whales.
    I don't know the details or why it is like that (I mean besides 'whales', but I mean I don't know if it's really that much more profitable to target whales, I guess it is if they're doing it, but - I don't know), it was never really much job, but yeah, prices on mobile platforms tend to be much more... ridiculous.

    The thing is, they would sell more variants if they slashed the price in half, but they would need to sell TWICE as many! Probably not gonna happen. Buyers gonna buy, non-buyers gonna non-buy en masse

      Based on my experience with pricing, sales, and marketing, I'd be they'd sell 3x-4x more if they cut the prices.

Only 2 is affected by a price slash. Because 3 will spend the same amount of money as before (although they do get more cosmetics now) . about the loosing credits thing ... we all know ben brode worked on heartstone before and in heartstone, if a card gets nerfed, you actually get your "dust" back (you can spend dust to craft cards) and so you keep the card AND you get the dust ... i could imgaine that ben is going for something like this in snap as well

      You don't get the dust and the card in Hearthstone, it's one or the other. You can either keep your nerfed card, or you can dust it for its full value (normally it is 1/4 the value). It's totally fair imo, but it is not what you described. Hopefully Marvel Snap does something like it, but I'm not sure how they would go about it.

    The only time I refuse to by games "micro transactions" would be the triple a fully priced games to just buy them. I've always hated the games where you pay to buy them and now they are trying to nickel dime and dollar you to death. Free to play games like snap, genshin impact, and Fortnite games like those I didn't mind. Cause there was no cost to entry. I know the company needs to make something from the game. And if it's good then I don't mind shelling out some here and there to support.

    I think team second dinner is following the same approach as Wizards of the Coast for MtG. They are checking what people are willing to buy and at which price and then they will readjust. So apart from the welcome bundle and season pass everything is way too overpriced currently. Also to your point about Snap being a pc or mobile game, I would honestly say that its closer to a boardgame, essentially being a simpler Smash up :)

    This video is made the same format as one of those scam artists like Dan Lok. They tell a story of how they endured hardships and persevered to become successful today. The audience is sympathetic to this life story and want to relate. The Marvel Snap season pass is a recommended buy without any real explanation why. Only that if we spend $10 frivolously, it could instead be used to support the game developers instead. It seems disingenuous to ask people to invest without informing what they are getting for $10 and letting people decide if it provides $10+ value to them.
    The video itself is light on facts. You compare Marvel Snap to Fortnite and Apex Legends, but don't really go into any depth about what stuff they get for their season pass or the price of things in those games. If people were told about a game selling for $120. Most people would say that is ludicrous and or ask it is some kind of Ultimate Founder's pack with exclusives and such. Then they are told it provides early access to a new card every month for a year, in game currency and cosmetic items. Still sounds ludicrous. However, if broken down to $10 per month increments it is somehow ok? If told they could also play the game for free, but fall behind others who spend money in acquiring cards. I think most people would choose the free option at least to start off with.

    I like the game but feel their offerings are very poor value overall. I also play brawl stars and clash royale and not only their season passes are cheaper, they provide WAY more value. I cannot justify spending anything in this game when every transaction feels like a legit scam. It doesn't matter if $10 is not that much money, its about the principle and making smart purchase decisions.

    Im buying any pass. About ppl says is a mobile game for anything related to shop that's because mobile games are usually p2w. I think 10 bucks for a pass i worth and fair compared to a lot of other mobile games i played coz from my experience passes are more expansive. At the end of the day this game is good and i think that even being free u can go on maybe with less cards than who spends money but this is just normal and maybe u won't make it to infinite but who cares lol.

    No reason to spend money when you don't get anything in return tbh. I've bought season passes but there's really no point. After lvl 50 you don't get anything extra. You don't get any bonus xp for having the battle pass. Not to mention the pricing is sooooo bad for the bundles. It almost like their out of touch with real people.
