    Thanks for making this video! I love Roaring Moon to bits and its my main deck for the local tourneys, but I built myself a Charizard deck just to know the ins and outs, so to speak. I will lament the loss of Battle VIP but I think the upcoming sets will provide interesting tweaks to the builds we see for both.

    your video is great! don't worry about the length; the information you provided is well worth it. i've been playing charizard for a while now and really like the deck. here's how i've spec'd mine:
    - i run 2 entei for 2 reasons: if one gets prized, i have a backup, and it's a great buffer to set up my board since it's pretty balanced between offense and defense. plus, i can answer to any grass type pokemon that hard counters charizard, as well as secures my position to play behind when they take it out. charizard comes out already swinging for 240 and can take out most opponents
    - i run 8 energy; this is to account for prizing and to power up entei and charizards evenly
    - i do not run mew; even tho this card is pretty good, i wanted to practice post rotation as much as possible. i also replaced level ball with heavy ball because a prized pidgey makes a really bad game. that being said, i still keep battle vip because you can't run a deck in this format without them
    defiance band and lost city have been my considerations for a while and i might find a way to squeeze them in there. thanks for the pointers and i'll keep all your info in mind next time i play a game.

    I just started playing after many years. I thought my deck was pretty good but I think your breakdown was just the info I needed. Your style of video is exactly what I've been looking for. Thank you for your hard work and I'm a sub and a fan! Quick question if you read this. What do you think about running jacq and evolution tm dropping a rare candy and ultra ball? Still a 2 turn Charmeleon/Charizard double set up that doesn't require Pidgeot early if you draw into lumineon/arven

    • @goonsquadtcg
      @goonsquadtcg  2 місяці тому

      Thank you so much. I'm glad it helped
      I think if you're going to incorporate Jacq and TM Evo, you NEED max counts of Ultra Ball. 4 Ultra Ball+Lumineon+Jacq gives you so many ways to get it.
      Many top players would cut into supporter counts before Ultra Ball as Ultra Ball can become fish which would be X supporter.
      If I had to cut anything, I'd cut an energy for Energy Search, an Arven for Jacq, and then decide if you want Evo or Devo. You kind of want to keep the speed of Pidgeot. It's tempting to cut candies, but you'd also have to incorporate the 151 Pidgeotto (which I really don't think is worth it).
      Just one guys two sense, but hope it helps somewhat

      I'm worried the most for this deck post rotation. The popular build people are playing is so Flaaffy heavy. I did put a video out on Miraidon (maybe 4-6 videos ago).
      I opted to not do a how to quite yet as Japan doesn't even have faith in it. Gardy is also in this camp where we need to test and see if a meta build emerges when we lose Dynamotor.

    • @goonsquadtcg

      I like the Paldean Fates Charmeleon, but not necessarily for Pidgeot builds. It's main protection is against Sableye which you can usually play around. I find the deck wants to be very aggro and getting a 70 damage for two usually comes up more. If you find yourself using a Charmeleon more than another, by all means. They typically change in strength depending on the meta around them
      I'm working on the next video and I really like it better in that build.

      mew works in a multitude of different decks but it isn’t the main attacker in the decks. It’s mainly used as a support to draw cards so I would find another card that you really like. For example, I use Alakazam ex with Mew ex and it works quite nice when adding in a few extra mons.

    Which version of Zard you see going forward after rotation - Bibs or Pigeot ex ? Is it same vibe as was when Zard came out and everyone tried Bibs vs Piegeot and later just got back to it or it's better? Before or after rotation Bibs Zard i see will be unfavored vs Pigeot variant unless will play 2 Devo and other techs.

    • @goonsquadtcg
      @goonsquadtcg  2 місяці тому

      I think they'll fluctuate. What I'm learning is each has strong match ups but they're not universal. So it's depending on what you see more of will influence them.
      I'm leaning towards bibarel, but the quick search of Pidgeot is also good.
      Something I haven't ruled out is a hybrid between the two.
      The biggest match swing for Charizard as a whole is who's playing Devo (Japan seemed to have dropped it) and how you chase your prizes. I think both decks have strengths.
      Pidgeot is aggressive and strikes first, but Bibarel has the pseudo one prize board state that can be tough to go through. Charizard is a 2HKO until late

    I actually have another question: Most people I've talked to prefer the Rotom V over the Entei V, what's your take on that?

    • @goonsquadtcg
      @goonsquadtcg  2 місяці тому +1

      Hey, excellent question.
      One of the big differences is defense vs offense.
      With the Rotom, it's strictly a bench sitter. It provides not much in terms of offensive presence. It also gets completely negated by the Paldea Evolved Spiritomb. At the time of recording, spiritomb was being played to shut down opposing Rotoms in control, Mirror, etc as well as shutting down Genesect V in Mew. It also locks out Lumineon V. I personally found Rotom becoming a dead card with the meta game in that moment.
      I went with entei because there were circumstances I liked having the option to hit 220 (full benches) on t2. If they had spiritomb down, I still got some value as it's relatively bulky and provides fire coverage (which hits gholdengo and grass counters)
      I respect those who play it, but it ultimately comes down to how often are you using it and is it worth sacking two prizes for it. My personal answer is no, but I see it's intended purpose

    • @lmanity
      @lmanity 2 місяці тому

      @@goonsquadtcg I feel like the Gholdengo Matchup shouldn't be very hard even without Entei and most of the time you automatically loose to grass counter decks anyway. Instant Charge seems to be a lot more reliable to get set up initially I feel like, but I see your point.

      @@goonsquadtcg Well, It was a small tourney and one of my friends is playing Snorlax and I saw the video The shuffle squad posted and I tried out that list, when I wasnt against snorlax, I used my gastly and gengar as discard fodder for ultra balls. Me and my younger brother played Charizard that tourney except he didnt have Gastly and Gengar in his build and our builds are very Identical to eachother. The only problem you will face agaisnt Snorlax is Mimikyu and I need to keep cards out like using the PAF charmelion to attack mimikyu and thats how I won and with Gengar out, Every time they boss order/counter catcher me, I use gengars ability to keep bringing up charzard until I get to mimikyu, then I use charmellion to damage mimikyu since safeguard is a problem, so seeing wiats coming helps me prepare for the matchup

    So, I am actually playing Artazon + Collapsed in my list, does that really make most of the matchups this much harder? I'm asking because you put Lost City as a key card in almost every matchup. Personally, I don't think it's too bad not to play it because they'd need to Super Rod and search for their knocked out key mons, which may take time they don't have against Zard.

    • @goonsquadtcg
      @goonsquadtcg  2 місяці тому

      The stadium choice is definitely optional or can be tailored in the deckbuilding process. Artazon and Collapsed were other cards I've seen. Collapsed is more defensive, and I found it hurting me more than helping. Lost City is just more final when it comes to knockouts.
      Giratina, Chien Pao, and Gardevoir all play pretty tight lists with multiple Rods. Forcing a rod +set up is not that hard for them. I just want to take a 50/50 or favorable and spin in it in my direction.
      Definitely both valid styles. I just really wanted to emphasize how good LC is.
      Gardevoir can be VERY problematic for charizard players if they can recycle Gardevoir pieces

    • @goonsquadtcg
      @goonsquadtcg  2 місяці тому

      I tend to disagree. We've seen plenty of players pilot this archetype with six and even seven . You rarely see an 8th unless it's Jet energy or the unreleased Mist Energy. If you feel you need more, you're hurting yourself in other areas of the deck. Infernal Reign fetches them from the deck when we need them. Assuming you play your Rods to return them, we'll always have ways to get them. Charizard ex is not really an archetype that wants to attach from hand.

      @@goonsquadtcg no i get that, but as a zard player myself, the hate should be pointed at devo, not path. And you do sound very biased when speaking about path

    • @goonsquadtcg
      @goonsquadtcg  2 місяці тому +2

      That's the idea, though. The intent with these videos is to really get behind the deck. Path is more problematic than Devo because the latter is harder to incorporate into decks. Offhand, I can only think of 2 maybe 3 decks that use it besides the mirror and they have alot of bad match ups. Path is enough of a disruption through Mew, Giratina, and Arceus that you can just straight up lose. There's no real play around to a path+Judge or a strong Roxanne+Path so I'm emphasizing that to new players/first timers for this deck

    Bruh talking about mastering the easiest deck to play of all Pokémon time…. I’m in the high ultra ball rank in TCG live almost masterball rank, I shit you not I played all day today and only played against a deck that wasn’t charizard ex maybe twice? It is absolutely broken that this card can do so much damage even without you taking prize cards, get instantly powered up AND have stupid high HP with 330.. especially since In this meta it is SO easy to get a rare candy with cards like arven. I have been insta checkmated idk how many times with a fully powered up Zard on turn two…. And now they added pidegot to the deck as if the deck wasn’t broken enough. This zard card has honestly ruined the game as 99.9% of the time you face this deck. The fun part of Pokémon for me is facing people with creative decks they built themselves and seeing how your deck stacks and it brings variety and enjoyment, I ain’t getting any enjoyment when I’m facing my 35th charizard deck in a row…. If you play this deck you are certified trash
