Do you know it was funny I was watching the live stream reveal when he was talking about other Mazdas and how they were selling and then they unveil it and I literally thought they just left the CX 90 on the screen from early and didn’t change to the CX 70 yet😁
The biggest drawback with these new-gen CX models is that the second row seats are not 4/2/4 split folding like on the CX-5, thus losing the center load-thru capability which is normally expected on CUVs like these......
Remember how Honda created the current Passport? They just took the third generation Pilot, cut about 6 inches from the length and called it a "new" model. I think that's what Mazda is trying to do here. At least Honda eventually restyled the front end of the Passport to look different from the Pilot in 2021.
Thing is Honda cut off 6 inches from the Pilot to build the Passport. Mazda did not do that here. It’s literally the same length. Their excuse of saying they wanted class leading passenger and cargo volume is lazy. It’s a RWD based vehicle. If they made it shorter it obviously would have less space than a passport, atlas cross sport, etc. but it’s driving dynamics is what would’ve made up for it. Idk how to feel about this. The 3rd row in the 90 isn’t the most roomy, but this is still a 200’ long vehicle with only 2 rows of seating.
But didn't Honda also make the Pilot longer when it was redesigned so now it's more than 6"? I haven't looked at specs but the Passport came out right in the middle of the Pilot's life cycle. A whole lot different here.
If mazda took out 6 inches and dropped some weight I wouldn't be mad lol unless this has pretty big price difference over the 90 then it's kinda pointless
Many buyers (like me) wanted that 3.3 Inline6 or PHEV in a smaller vehicle. Going to CX5 or CX50 it's not an option so please stop suggesting to go down in model for size! I'll wait for 2022 Genesis GV70 3.5t 375HP to depreciate some more. Makes my choice much easier. Mazda blew it!

That look I have knowing VW at least gave the Atlas Cross Sport a different roof line, but Mazda only removed a row of seats and added an appearance package. 🤔
Loving my 24 Atlas Cross Sport. Glad I didn't wait for this. Lack of physical controls I'm getting used to and the voice control is great. Much prefer that over the lack of touch screen for CarPlay. Thanks for the preview.
This is disappointing. It's the CX-90 with 3rd row delete. What is Mazda doing? I was hoping for the Euro CX-60, The 90 is nice, but is too big for me.
Thanks, for the review and reveal video. I'm really not in the CX-70 market, but I'm disappointed in a few things, such as there is no 40/20/40 split rear seat and the rear cargo cover doesn't attach to the hatch door and go up when you open it. I like those features on my CX-5. I did see in another video that the rear seat will recline some. I'm really looking forward and in the market for the CX-50 or new CX-5 Hybrid if and when they come out. Thanks again Kurt!
Nice bro, just watched a bunch of 'reviews' and even though you didn't have an actual vehicle, yours has been the best with all the important deets and comparisons. My takeaways and hopes: The cost-cutting measures in relation to the cx-90 are also weight-saving and with the blacked-out bits and red interior, it's probably safe to say that this is being marketed as a relatively sporty vehicle. Given that this drivetrain has now been in production for nearly two years, there must be enough data and feedback to provide for development, so hopefully there will be some hotter engine versions not currently offered in the 60 and 90. I mean it's a big-bore turbo inline six - isn't this the epitome of 'potential'? A bigger turbo, added intercooler and bigger exhaust (stainless steel, mandrel bent) would be a nice (and easy) start but somehow this seems set to be more of a 'bread and butter' product, with all the added plastic etc. Let's hope we don't have to wait for the next Mazda6 for the hotter stuff. And let's pray that someone in Mazda with power is keen to unleash the hidden beast. They're already saving time and money by reusing the cx-90 for this 'new' model, so there are no excuses! BTW you have a good point regarding things maybe being more complicated if the 5 & 7 seaters had the same model number. I've experienced some related confusion with my Outlander. Separating them keeps things simple and allow for a whole new set of cheaper options, as we see. Plus it's quite astounding the number of trim levels on offer in the USA as it already stands with the CX-90. Bring on the CX-70 SP or MPS! (or some better-sounding modern equivalent!)
I'm a bit disappointed, I hopped it was going to be a different vehicle. Maybe I'm really wrong and out of touch with the market, but this is too big for a 2 row suv and probably the price won't be much different from the cx-90. IMO the cx-70 shouldn't be a different car, but a different trim like CX-90 Sport or something equivalent
The painted wheel surrounds are for Canada. US gets the black plastic. Some of the other trims bits may be Canada’s also, as well as trim level differences. I’m also disappointed that it’s not smaller than the 90.
I really didn’t think they would be this lazy… oh well. The all blacked out trim does look good. Here’s hoping they put the straight six in a smaller suv in the future for the US.
You’re splitting hairs comparing the interior trim stuff. On another channel they mentioned that isn’t the top trim CX-70 interior. The red isn’t available on the top trim. The CX-90 also has the same metal trim on lower trims.
I hope they sort out the transmission shifting at low speeds, and that they make the seats more comfortable. I will *definitely* drive this and the Toyota Crown Signia when they become available.
This is such a bummer. I was hoping it would be more like the CX-60. The 90 is too big for me and frankly the back of it just isn’t styled well. Such a missed opportunity to have a car between the cx5 and cx90 size.
Apart from the fact that is a CX-90 without the third row, I see a total lack of effort from Mazda. I cannot be sure but from photos seems they don’t even bother to cancel the cup holders for the inexistent third row in the trunk. Frankly speaking it is a joke that they call it a new model and not an option in CX-90 lineup
Disappointed. Love the CX-90 but was hoping for something closer to the CX-60 in size. If the price of the CX-70 is a good bit lower than the CX-90 then I think it'll still do fine, because it's a CX-90 for cheaper, but still a missed opportunity to serve buyers who don't want such a big bodied SUV. The initial reports of the CX-70 being a wider CX-60 are what made me eager for today's unveiling but sadly i'm confused and disappointed.
What?! What a disappointment. I was hoping the CX70 would be a smaller CX90. Then what 7-seater would Japan get because they only get the CX70? Maybe they’ll sell the CX90 as the CX70 in Japan. 🤔
It's a CX90 with a 3rd row delete. Even tho it looks better its not something that's going to draw in people who wanted the new motor but something closer to the CX50 dimentionally like me
I'm happy it's the same size, though I would have thought they would do what Genesis does with the GV-80 (which is to offer a 3rd row delete model with less content than the 3-row.) But if they had the will to put this drivetrain in a sedan, I would be super excited! I just have a lot of doubts such a vehicle will ever come.
The GV80 never tried to be a true 3 row crossover like the CX-90. It always sees itself as a X5 & GLE fighter. As for the miniature 3rd row, you only get it with the V6 powertrain. The highest trim is supposed to give you that luxurious Maybach feel. If you want to go the sporty route, we have the upcoming GV80 Coupe that's have a host of changes that is unique to that vehicle. The CX-70 is a half-ass vehicle comparison to Q8/GV80 Coupe/Atlas Cross/GLE Coupe/X6 in differentiating from their more traditional forms.
Failure on Mazda for not elongating the Mazda CX-60 and giving clear differentiation in their line-up. Makes me wonder what the overseas Mazda CX-80 will end up being.
I was wondering that too. Now I am guessing they will take a CX-60 and cram in a miniature third row. If they won't spend the money to give the US market a truly different vehicle, why would other markets get a third model of an entirely unique size?
This (same vehicle as CX-90 minus the 3rd row, and no fancy luxury interiors) has been predicted for months. I was fine with the idea, but thought they'd at least change the rear end to be a bit more raked or "coupe-like" (think BMW X5 & X6, or VW's Atlas & Atlas Cross Sport.) But giving us all the cargo area of the CX-90 could be a plus to some who don't want or need a 3rd row and don't want to haul it around everywhere they go. We'll see - it's great to have choice though (all the 5-seater SUVs out there, not just a CX-70 & CX-90.) The customer wins.
With this CX-70 released, Mazda is just asking a slap and punch at their face. Mazda shouldn't consider CX-70 a new model, and this is not even close to a CX-90 face lift. This is just a package option that should offer in CX-90 where you can select YES or NO for 3rd row just like Tesla Model Y. Mazda might as well not telling the American they are launching CX-70 if they are not ready. I don't understand what market Mazda is trying to sell CX-70, I can technically buy CX-90 with 3rd row fold down. Unless the pricing CX-70 is like half the price of CX-90, then is a different story. Sigh !!!
Looks like someone filtered the 2026 CX-90 facelift ahead of time. Different bumpers and there you go. Hopefully it has some mechanical or dynamics improvements over the "bigger" brother. Deleting a seat row and changing textures is not worth to take a segment name. I see more differences between the Mazda 3 sedan and the hatchback and both are called the same.
Mazda might have just signed their death knell. They are a small company with limited resources. Bringing a new car to market takes about $1 billion. Mazda has developed the CX-90/CX-70, the CX-60, and are soon bringing to Europe and other markets a CX-80. That is three vehicles, admittedly with many similarities. The CX-60 would have been exactly in the heart of the market for US buyers, but they are totally absent in the most crucial space. The CX-90 is not cutting it for most people because it is too large. The CX-5 is too small. Another problem with the CX-90/CX-70 is the positioning in the market. It compares favorably with things like an Explorer, Highlander, Telluride, but does not go far enough to take conquest sales from Mercedes and BMW. The CX-90 lacks the small luxury touches to really be the complete package. Mazda spent a billion dollars to develop a RWD platform and in inline 6, only to cheap out and not put auto lock/unlock sensors on the rear doors. The entire car is full of puzzling cheap touches like that. I have no knowledge of Mazda's finances, but it seems likely they emptied out their coffers and are not going to get much return on this investment. Mazda needed to develop two vehicles. The CX-60 and the CX-90. Sell them both around the world. It is going to be very interesting to see just what exactly a CX-80 is going to be. Based on the lie that is the CX-70, the CX-80 will probably be a CX-60 with a tiny third row jammed in.
The CX60 was more closer to a compact crossover rather than a midsize. As much as people are hating on the 70 it will still sell because it will be cheaper than a 90 and have more storage space and for many that will be enough.
@@JackSmith-qi7dr it will be in a year. Remember that the CX-70 is a 2025 model and the 90 is a 24. Which means next when the 90 hits the 2025 model year we’ll see the true price difference.
Waiting for the replacement CX5 Replacement with a R EV PHEV maybe with a twin rotor rotary generator. What are the chances Kirk. I like the CX70 look. Not keen on the CX60 available here.
According to BestCar the 6 sedan based on the large product architecture was put on hold since the financial viability was questionable based on how the SUVs were performing. And the CX-70 is a clear sign that Mazda is short on cash to create completely new products. Mazda's sales have been strong last year but that's mostly because many of their vehicles are heavily discounted. The CX-90 in my area is discounted by 2-3k, meanwhile the Grand Highlander has a 6-month waitlist with at least 4k ADM. I know enthusiasts love the brand and the media give them rave reviews, but Mazda chose the objectively more expensive way to build large vehicles. But they don't even have the pricing power of Genesis let alone the German brands, and they don't have the economies of scale of Lexus. So they will always make less profit per vehicle. At the end of the day car makers exist to make money, not make enthusiasts happy. Every car company in Japan made record profit this year because of the weak Yen, yet Mazda barely made a profit, even less than Suzuki which is an economy brand.
Almost a year ago Jonathan Sewell on his channel predicted the CX-70 would be a two-row version of the CX-90. I was hoping he was wrong and we'd get something closer to Europe's CX-60, which is almost a foot shorter than the CX-70. I'm on my second, leased CX-5 turbo Signature and hope the CX-5 survives. If not, Mazda will have nothing for me as I'm not interested in a CX-50.
Yes, why why why Mazda? That's a no go. Why call it a 70? I guess their goal is to have two nearly identical models in each segment size. Just plain weird
I am deceived by the CX-70, not by the car itself, but by the marketing hype that created excitement but at the end it is just the deletion of the back seats. Of course the trims are a little bit different but is it not a new car.
I wonder what else have you expected? Mazda is small manufacturer with a shrinking market in two of biggest car markets (EU and UK and China). In order to keep going for few more Years it has to utilise same components and parts in as many models as it could. Whoever expected big differences was living in dreams.
Those fake vents in the front are hideous .. wow. WTH Mazda. And like others mention, get a 90 and fold down 3rd row lol. Put that 6 in a 60 and then we can talk.
I feel like Acura will need to drop prices in the MDX compete. I am thinking of cross shopping this with the MDX in the future, and already I feel like this is a way better car, even before I compare prices. The 3.3T is more powerful than the MDX,has better MPG, has better cargo space, and now has a red interior.
Very interesting! The CX-70 in North America, is the CX-60 in Europe. A big plus the CX-60 has is the very luxurious CX-90 interior. 😊 We’ve had the CX-60 in Europe since 2022.
Wha?! Seems like a miss by Mazda. The 5 is 179 inches long and the 90 is 202 inches. There is definitely a length in between the two that would be more useful as a luxury focused two row vehicle. I think it is called the CX-60 in Europe.

I’m convinced the reason the CX-60 didn’t come to the US (or something similarly sized) is that it would eat up CX-5 and CX-50 sales.
Assuming the CX-60 was larger and more expensive, Mazda would welcome that.

Been waiting over a year and what a letdown. May have to wait for new Landcruiser 193", much better size.
no offense Kirk but how did you manage to make an 18 minute video out of a re-hashed CX-90?
Quite impressive 😁
lmao but I actually really liked the in-depth comparison with the photos, i just play it at 2.5x speed. This beats dealing with slimy sales people and Kirk tells me so many details
Do you know it was funny I was watching the live stream reveal when he was talking about other Mazdas and how they were selling and then they unveil it and I literally thought they just left the CX 90 on the screen from early and didn’t change to the CX 70 yet😁
Ehh. Was hoping its size would be closer to the 50 than 90
The biggest drawback with these new-gen CX models is that the second row seats are not 4/2/4 split folding like on the CX-5, thus losing the center load-thru capability which is normally expected on CUVs like these......
Mazda should, in my view, just bring the Euro version CX-60 here stateside.
I agree. I was expecting a GV70 type vehicle at a lower price. Mazda did blow it.
@@Seriously140 Also.. Another bummer is that Toyota Crown Sport SUV is not coming to North America. That would have been my 1st choice. CX60 was my 2nd.. We keep getting screwed.
Wait... maybe Mazda chose CX-70 to show us the new font type for what could be a new RX-7 decal...
Car play and android auto have touchscreen. Watch my cx90 phev review
This is disappointing. It's the CX-90 with 3rd row delete.
What is Mazda doing? I was hoping for the Euro CX-60, The 90 is nice, but is too big for me.
Wait they took out the third row option and released it as a brand new model? 😂😂😂
I was hoping the 70 wouldn't have the silly bulbous back end of the 90 (the 90's worst feature).
You’ll have to wait until Toyota can allocate batteries and hybrid components to them first.
Nice bro, just watched a bunch of 'reviews' and even though you didn't have an actual vehicle, yours has been the best with all the important deets and comparisons. My takeaways and hopes:
The cost-cutting measures in relation to the cx-90 are also weight-saving and with the blacked-out bits and red interior, it's probably safe to say that this is being marketed as a relatively sporty vehicle.
I'll take the European CX60 please. Its a foot shorter in length and a bit narrower. Easier to drive and park in an urban area.
Like the 70 more I think! I like the black trim and the black wheels that they have!
We were hoping for CX-60
Wish it was a bit smaller but the all black with the wine red seats is 😍
I can find you any car anywhere in black.
Kirk I love the interior 😊❤
I hope they sort out the transmission shifting at low speeds, and that they make the seats more comfortable. I will *definitely* drive this and the Toyota Crown Signia when they become available.
It's not April Fool's Day yet, I hope this is just a joke. When the real cx70 comes out, this will become an option for the 2-row version of the cx90
Sadly it's not a joke
This is such a bummer. I was hoping it would be more like the CX-60. The 90 is too big for me and frankly the back of it just isn’t styled well. Such a missed opportunity to have a car between the cx5 and cx90 size.
Apart from the fact that is a CX-90 without the third row, I see a total lack of effort from Mazda. I cannot be sure but from photos seems they don’t even bother to cancel the cup holders for the inexistent third row in the trunk. Frankly speaking it is a joke that they call it a new model and not an option in CX-90 lineup
Probably won't be more than $3000-$4000 cheaper than the CX-90 across all trim levels. It's weird that it's the same length. Basically the same SUV.
I was hoping for a smaller car.
Was hoping for something with the "rugged" cx-50 styling, but bigger, with the inline-6 hybrid powertrain. :(
I was hoping it'd be smaller, but like that it'll be more blacked out, same tech, cheaper
disappointing, now it's all about the next cx-5 for me
I actually like it. No chrome is a plus for me. Parts will be easy to obtain
Personally I think the cx70 looks substantially better than the 90.
Says coming spring 24 on website
What?! What a disappointment. I was hoping the CX70 would be a smaller CX90. Then what 7-seater would Japan get because they only get the CX70? Maybe they’ll sell the CX90 as the CX70 in Japan. 🤔
It's a CX90 with a 3rd row delete. Even tho it looks better its not something that's going to draw in people who wanted the new motor but something closer to the CX50 dimentionally like me
The European cx60 still looks smaller, even though they are style wise almost identical at this point
Shorter, and traditional hybrid, and I would have bought this
Fold 3rd row of cx90 and now it’s cx70 tada……😂
Mazda said spring 2024 for release date.
Sigh !!!
I expect CX-70 to be rivals with RX, RDX , X3 , GV70
他和cx60的差別是啥?
I'm pretty sure I saw something about it releasing Spring 2024.
I like The CX-70 better but, I just want The New Mazda 6!!
Speculation on the pricing?
Maybe $2-$3k less
i own a 3.3 inline cx60 and its big enough.. identitical interior with the cx90, i dont know why mazda couldn't just move it over to NA
The CX60 was more closer to a compact crossover rather than a midsize. As much as people are hating on the 70 it will still sell because it will be cheaper than a 90 and have more storage space and for many that will be enough.
Not cheaper.
This model is horrible. Why the same length with CX90? I’m definitely out
According to BestCar the 6 sedan based on the large product architecture was put on hold since the financial viability was questionable based on how the SUVs were performing.
If not, Mazda will have nothing for me as I'm not interested in a CX-50.
at the end it´s the same Car without a 3 row, Japanese Marketing😂
Yes, why why why Mazda? That's a no go. Why call it a 70? I guess their goal is to have two nearly identical models in each segment size. Just plain weird
Is this car going to be cheaper than the CX-90?
They would kill if they made the inline 6 in a wagon
lol Mazda gave the CX90 a very mild mid-cycle refresh, gave it a new name, and then calls it an all new model.
not sure but it appears to me that the cx70 has a shorter wheelbase than the cx90 with the same body length as the cx90
As a lifelong Mazda fan this makes absolutely no sense to me.
Cool
Yeah, I think they should’ve shortened the vehicle to differentiate from the 90.
To big, very disappointing.
They hid this from us for 1 year.......
Very interesting! The CX-70 in North America, is the CX-60 in Europe. A big plus the CX-60 has is the very luxurious CX-90 interior. 😊 We’ve had the CX-60 in Europe since 2022.
Let see the price
Cx-70 looks like its at Honda's level of interior and exterior.
Wha?! Seems like a miss by Mazda. The 5 is 179 inches long and the 90 is 202 inches. There is definitely a length in between the two that would be more useful as a luxury focused two row vehicle. I think it is called the CX-60 in Europe.
Mazda is going to sell a bunch of these if they price it right. It will easily outsell the CX90.
