      @@NorthlawnFlowerFarm In MN :) and will be on the lookout for them this spring, thank you for offering!
      Color Blaze Lime Time coleus from Proven Winners is my first choice for vibrant chartreuse if available. There are some other bright green coleus colors too.
      Another chartreuse/lime green plant is Tiger Eye sumac. This is not suppose to be aggressive like the other sumac. It will sucker, but controllably. It’s Fall color went into bright oranges for me-VERY stunning!!

    Don't forget the great part of the Elderberry is not just for the birds!
    The berries are good to make a tasty syrup to take for immunity boost too!

    ?Question….
    Thank you for focusing on a color-group of plants, this is very helpful! I enjoyed the mahogany splendor hibiscus for the first time this year (MN, zone 4a). Mine were started indoors and transplanted out. LOVE this plant! The dark burgundy had a bluish iridescence where it was planted in full sun. I had cuttings in water to enjoy indoors and they rooted, so those went in soil to see what will happen and a new packet of seeds are waiting for next spring :)
    ?How close did you have your plants together and how many in one area to get a drift or bush look to them? Also did you pinch or do anything to help the plants stool out more?
    Thanks for all you do!

    I just love your plants so much!! The other one that has purple foliage and spring pink flowers that turn into pretty berries and is smaller than the black lace is the laced up elderberry. It does need a pollinator as well for the berries but it is such a gorgeous Pilar shrub…… a little Dr Seuss ish and thinner for smaller gardens. I am always thrilled to see everything you love to share. Thank you Danielle 🌷🌷

    Purple leaf sand cherry is a new addition in my landscape, the new growth glows like fire in the evening sun, while the older growth takes on a dark green to purple tinge. Ninebark is certainly the best for dark foliage use all season!

    Crab apple "Prairie Fire" has a special place in my veg & flower garden, but it's more of a tree than a shrub. Among the shrubs, my forsythia turned purple this fall, a welcome surprise, I didn't notice in previous years. Enjoyed your recommendations and will try several. Thanks!!

    I have many purple leaved shrubs and love them all! Mahogany splendor hibiscus is absolutely amazing - I could not believe it grew so large in one season. It is very brittle though, and prone to breakage in storms and wind. However, I just used broken limbs as a support for the remaining limbs, and most of them took root and produced more leaves! So no one was any the wiser. Three additions I can offer are Nightglow Diervilla, Wine and Roses weigela, and Red Dragon Contorted Filbert. Hibiscus aren’t shrubs but they act like them, and many have beautiful, dark foliage. Black Diamond crepe myrtles are gorgeous, and though they aren’t very hardy in zone 6, they do eventually form a shrub for me and even flower after several years!

    Yes, yes, yes, to all of those beautiful choices! Danielle, seek out Purple Prince or Plum Dandy Alternanthera for next year. Danielle, I so enjoyed this video. Although I do not have many purple foliage plants I am adding some year by year to my garden beds. Because of you I am planning to grow the Mahogany Splendor Hibisicus in 2022. And, I know just where it is going as I plan for the spring. I do have a question or two. How much can you prune off the bushes with compromising the growth of the plant? And, do you cut to the bottom of plant near the soil line?
    Also, I have a red twig dogwood which has been in a year and a half. It did well this year and I would like to use some branches this fall. Could I cut them now and could I take a third of them and it still be fine all winter? You inspire me in growing, arranging, and creating with the flowers I grow. Thank you!!

      Hi Janie! Thanks so much for these great questions. The mahogany splendor sends off lots of branches along the main stem. The main stem is very thick. I generally cut the length I need from the lateral stems. For the other bushes on the list I cut the length desired leaving the remainder of the stem on the shrub. Definitely yes on your red twig dogwood question!

      @NorthlawnFlowerFarm  2 роки тому +2

      Hi there! Thank you for this question. By year three you can really start to cut on it without losing the overall look of the plant. I think you'll definitely be able to take cuts from it next year, but year three is when I really start to notice major growth. A thinning cut rather than a heading cut will help maintain the plants weeping form.
