- We build a survival bow and arrows from an alder tree and para cord and use it to bow fish rainbow trout from a stream. The arrow is built from a tree branch and wrapped in snare wire and barb wire from an old rusty fence. The hooks are also built from barb wire fence wire, to complete a full survival fishing tackle box. The full Survival Fishing Playlist: • Survival Fishing Chall...

We raid the junk pile in the forest for discarded, but useful materials including metals like bar wire, fence wire, discarded metal tools and whatever else we can use to spear, or catch fish in this epic survival fishing challenge.
In a survival situation, it might surprise you to still be able to find many hand tools and discarded modern artifacts that are useful in building spears and fishing hooks. The key to survival is to use whatever you find available. Junk is often left over and lasts for years before it is reduced back to it's natural form. Metals can be worked and sharpened to make useful survival tools from fish hooks, to fish spears.

Make a fish trap
Should try something like Zach or Greg ovens' automatic fish catcher trap thing
I like how you make your own weapons you are the best at that

River cane makes excellent bows and arrows
When you are doing a live wood survival bow, you need to leave the bark on, so the springiness doesn't leave as it dries. If you are making a bow with dry wood, you have to go through the whole process of seasoning the wood, shaping the bow, backing the bow and then tillering etc, prior to trying to bend it, otherwise it will almost always break. Suckers around the base of many trees make good survival arrows also. In Canada, many Native Americans used hazel wood shoots. Also, for small game, river reeds can be cut off in the fall as they dry standing straight up, then you can bundle many together to "straighten" and then just insert a wooden nock on one end and a flat blunt on the other using some hide glue or wrapping it with the little strands on the inside of your 550 cordage. When making a traditional fishing arrow, make it about 3-4 feet long, then on the end to spear the fish, narrow two sides to make it look like a very long knife blade, then on one side cut notches in with a knife. This penetrates deeply and the notches ratchet up on the fish skin etc and keeps them from falling off too easily. This way you don't need any metal. Just fire harden the tip slightly.
I'm curious, when arrows are made properly, how often do they break?
@@whenyou5155 Almost anytime they hit on their side as they fishtail leaving the bow. Depending on the level of flex and poundage of the bow. The very light reed arorws can be very weak and only require a slight bow with 25 max foot pounds. They are designed for birds or small game though. Actual wooden arrows, I use cedar, rarely break, except when inside game that is running. If you don't get a pass-thru on the game, they are sticking out and the first thing most stuck animals do is try to run to hide in the thickest brush possible. That's the most common way they break.
That depends of the wood, ipe doesn't need curation, it's hard and flexible in itself.
Thanks for all your work and videos. I’m starting to understand how much is involved in making your content. Running vehicles, your time and resources. Thanks for presenting your skills in such a cool and clear way. Your subscriber numbers clearly demonstrate that you’ve got it right. Cheers Wooded Beardsman
I love how much more your friend knows about this and you keep trying to be right every chance you get.
Start a "Go Fund Me" to get Scott some new t-shirts.

Survival Scott and the Wooded Beardsman, great teamwork guys!
I LOVE THE SPICES I ORDER!!! TASTES GREAT WITH CATFISH
Way to go guys, great "can do" attitude!!!
When I made bows growing up. We used to go to the hardware store and buy legit arrows. We had a hard time getting good results making our own. Cool video.😃🍺
I love your videos. I grew up in Port Angeles, Wa, across the water from Victoria, BC. We had tons of alders on our property. I remember cutting down and using them all the time for survival stuff like shelters and other cool stuff. I got a couple offoraging and survival books from my grandpa and I love that kinda stuff.
Full Stop! The best materials for arrows available in North America, the Rocky Mountains for sure is wild roses long straight shafts are readily available can be tweaked to fly true and hardened with fire. Great video as always.
Sure give props to the primitive peoples. They had to know everything from the right materials to use and the correct ways to construct/use tools. Great video yall
Exactly. Learning this the hard way!
I love alder . I use it for cooking and for growing oyster mushrooms.
Hundred times outta ten!
Hi Fluffy face and Scott. Enjoying the survival vlogs. keep them coming
Successful catch! 😃🍺

Boys playing in the woods👌
If the fish don't die from the actual arrow shot, we know they'll kick the bucket from tetanus.
Scott's outsmarting you Beard. You gonna take it? It's always best seeing you work in partnership.
This video reminded me of me and my brothers making bow and arrows in the woods. Great video👍
As an Australian, you guys wandering through head height grass like that genuinely makes me uncomfortable.
yep, the raptors live in the tall grass...
you and onewildcrafter need to do a camp hunt and cook like the old days . keep up the good work
Cattails are strong and straight. This makes beautiful arrows.
AWESOME
Love your videos
Perfect stuff too watch while house sitting for the parents love the pond series keep it up
Great video keep up the good work
Wouldn't be much of a trout farm if it wasn't loaded with fish.
Dan Basham some of those were wild . On the underwater cam I saw a few
@@brooktrout8568 😆
Those were some nice brown trout
Can't get upstream anymore lol. Pretty hard when its fenced off.
20:15 is the fishing part that passes the tutorial on making the bows, just for the people that want to see fishing.
Theres a type of Stinging Nettle found in the Santa Cruz Redwood Coast Mountains in California that grows leaves twice that size and the stingers are on both sides of the leaves! In the morning time when covered in dew with the ferns and Thimbleberries, Horstail Rushes and Miner's Lettuce around them and the huge Redwoods as a backdrop, it's one of the prettiest scenes of any forest setting!
The way to make an privative arrow was to build a small fire and heat the shaft where you need to straighten it and hold it till it cools straight.
amazing to see so many trout in one spot!
JoCoAn Anquetil It's a fish farm
Its a farm...
Nice one mate.
I watched this documentary years ago where these little Amazon native kids, maybe six years old, would construct their own bows and arrows, then harvest fish for their families. Their skills were remarkable for such a young age.
Rose stems are what the natives used for arrows very straight and light. Love the videos i live in waterloo , close to the Lydon trout ponds. Been there a few times.
Fly fishing would be just as great around your area plus harder fishing methods
They used wild rose bush shafts to make their arrows. They'd build a fire and heat the spots that were bent, then they'd hold it in place until the arrow cooled. Once they were happy with the straightness, they'd attach the arrow head, knock and tail feathers
Hello my idol you and zackary fowler!
Thanks!
@@TheWoodedBeardsman oh my god! Holy moly!! My idol replied me!! Oh sh*t this is my dream!
@@TheWoodedBeardsman im watching from Philippines.
Realy cool video 😀
Wild rose makes good arrow
Best primative Fisher out there is definitely the osprey.
Primitive Survival Braces! Get on it, and save your arm from torture
I need a shirt that says 100 times out of 10! Lol
This reminds for some reason
When I was younger I was camping and I walked into a foot hold trap that my cousins set.
Ouch!
Full Stop!
Your not afraid or intimidated by the wilderness your a smart man and a joy to be around 💯💪❤️
Waiting to see that maple branch produce some fish. Full stop after camping in the woods.
Straight up sight fishing
I wanted you guys to use the saw for the nocks so bad watching this lol
You can heat the wood over your campfire to soften the resin, then you can form and hold until it cools.
You heat it over a fire for bend straightening.
🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐠🐠🐠🐠🐠🐠🐠🐠 good job ⭐
Great video keep it up can you make some catfishing videos
I can, but I only know one place to catch them.
I always used cherry to make bows when I was little easy to work plus my dad and grandpas propertys were covered with them.
yes
lets go!
Saw the beginning of video and knew it was a trout farm lol
Bow fishing is for bigger fish at night or close ones in your video good stuff
Nice to see that the barb wire hook worked. Was your fishing bow (the professionally made bow) from Ray of Riverbend Longbows?
Full stop
Love the vid can you build a fish net with paracord and try to catch fish with it
That net our dam that gives you a stock pond or lake plus all the fish fly rods are the way
You my friend need to watch Shadiversity's channel on shooting bows and common misconceptions about shooting and design :P
Yeah, I got more than a little to learn!
hi Chris, another great addition to the series!!! great job, glad to hear Jer will be back next week, stay safe, thank you
Safety pins are good barbs for smaller carp and suckers
I'll have to try!
Hello mate love the videos man
Glad you like them!
I always wondered what the technical name was for those “ Fish bonkers”. Though a heads up bonking means something different in Oz.
If fishing a gorge hook you gotta let em have it for a while. It need to be all the way in their stomach that way when you pull it turns sideways and will not come out. A lot of times when checking lines with gorge hooks the fish would be dispatched from the gorge from what I’ve heard and read.
You already pulled this trick on us you're at the fish hatchery
If you ever feel like coming to Alabama for a week of true out of your comfort zone survival I'm up for it. I know plenty of places to go out for a week with woods and water.
If ever they open up the border!
@@TheWoodedBeardsman yeah that's right I forget about that.
If you guys ever do a video with the normal style hooks you do a bunch of half hitches with a waxed thread or line to attach the hooks to the line. And those hooks tend to work better with a pole rather than a hand line.
Man it almost looks like a fish hatchery, Lol
Only legal places to try my ridiculous experiments!!!
@@TheWoodedBeardsman I know, I don't care about where it's at. You're showing us how to and how effective it can be. Wouldn't be very entertaining to see you go out and not find any fish
Keep up this great content
👍👍👍👌
So os brasileiros podem dar like aqui 😎
Put the stick in a small fire at the bend and get hot then pull out and striaghen it as it cools.
🤗🤗🤗
Here in the Pacific Northwest alder grows everywhere. I would suggest using willow instead of alder.
Ok, we have some around to try.
Arrow making out in the wild is not easy.
No joke man. I give up hahahaah
I have a family of American Indians that live down the road and say that the gorge hook was used as a limb hangers mainly. They would bait it and leave it for the fish or turtle to completely swallow it . They would set hundreds of them and leave them for hours while hunting or collecting food
k, I'm going to keep trying. I can see it work well on turtle for sure!
You can eat nettles. One of the best survival food out there high in fiber and protein. I'm looking for a patch of nettles to eat
You should check out the Townsend's video on stinging nettle pie
In my area we traditionaly "cleek" salmon, wade in to river , hook them thru back with a gaff. Totaly illegal but most fun things are. Kinda cold on the nuts in the depth of scottish winter, trousers freezing as you stalk your next fish.
Is that fish?? Good morning lady’s!!
Are you sugar cane stock for the arrows turkey feathers for the Fletching and they would use Flint for the arrowhead
Full stop, have you considered using the fishbrain app? Fowler uses it.
It’s a great app. (People lie a lot though)
I wouldn't but don't want to give up all my spots!
@@TheWoodedBeardsman you can mark your catches as private and it will not give up the location where you caught them.
Cedar saplings 2" thick roughly is good for spear fishing or making bows
For arrows make ur notch for string if u had come across feathers cut them from tip to tip splint the end down couple inches were notch is insert the feathers for a type of glue is pine sap and ashes from a fire mixed together cedar branches work great for arrows also use sand to help smooth and sand down the arrows lengthy process sinue for the bow string works great even cedar for the bow its self and wrapped in leather and soaked and place buy fire the heat will help cure the strength of the leather usually deer hide
Look for a rose bush, to use for arrows.
😳😳😳
What's going on up at the cabin? Haven't seen any videos there lately
We started a new channel: ua-cam.com/video/6j1N5TOmBLI/v-deo.html
@@TheWoodedBeardsman You might want to start plugging it at the end of your videos "check out my other channel" or in the video description. Especially for those of us that pop in and out as work/time permits and may have missed a video discussing it. We'd all appreciate a heads-up that some of your content is on another channel.
😘😘😘
I like watching hunting videos but I don’t kill animals 😂
Bro try Birch wood it works well and holds it power longer but it can be a pain to work with
Hey Chris, did you know that you can eat stinging knettles? Honestly & Truly!!! I'm sure you do, probably I've seen you do it, but if not look it up... supposedly a super food!!!! :>)>>
