    I 3d printed a focuser body and used some parts from an old focuser. I have a bad ass 2" focuser for my st. I currently making a fully adjustable lens cell and might try a 94mm lens.

      Yep this real evidence, no BS!! I will not launch a video if this project didn't work, but it does and yet so many viewers do not like my video because it hits the nail with hard facts!!

    Greetings from Brooklyn, NY! I just started my journey into stargazing with a Heritage 150P 6 inch tabletop dob. I've been thinking about buying an 80mm refractor for imaging though, and your 2 part videos on this scope are GREAT! Keep up the great work. Cheers and clear skys!

      The 80mm might be Achromat, but it is such an under rated scope, Yes you will not be able to completely remove the false colour, but long term it will save you a ton of money, and as I've just described in my video, you can always process the false colour out, using Photoshop.

    I'm sick of it all I'm getting a 16" skywatcher flextube dobsonian telescope

      I'm guessing your having Aperture Fever, Don't worry I have had that as well, hence why I got the 250p Dob!!! Be warned though the 16" dob is a huge telescope, and seriously heavy!!

    Interesting video. How does a 102/1000 mm achromat compare in image quality and resolution to a 80 mm ED FPL-51 ? Thank you!

    I have a ST150 refractor and canon DSLR. When imaging planets with a 2x barlow can I also use the dslr crop magnification to blow up the image or will the additional crop result in a poor image?

    • @MPAstro
      @MPAstro  Рік тому +1

      Yes you can, though your images will get pixellated, though 3x zoom images are not too bad through the Canon 600D.

    Know where there's some decent tube rings for the st80?
    I've searched the net but haen't found anything satisfying

    • @MPAstro
      @MPAstro  Рік тому

      I know Skywatcher do a ring set but I think you need 90mm diameter ones. Though like Frank says the Orion ones do fit the ST80

    I had totally given up on the idea of astrophotography because it's soo expensive, but this set-up seems very much within reach. Thanks.

      Totally agree with you Tony! You are not wrong there, Astrophotgraphy is very expensive and I hope this video helps you achieve your goal. The ST-80 is defo an unbelieveable scope for imaging and if the false colouring doesn't bother you than you can achieve amazing images and you have to get the Baader contrast booster filter. Though this filter is super tune in itself, and defo worth investing one for this scope!! Some else thanked me when they had similar problem with the false colouring with their ST-150 ,the effect is not totally eliminated and making his scope more suitable for Astrophotography!!

    Thanks Martin for this video. Thanks to you I now as of this day received the same focuser from TS Optics. I have fitted 2 William Optics finder shoes onto it and wow, what a difference. I did have to pay an additional £51.41 for the customs import duty but that doesn't really matter. My beloved ST80 now really looks the part with a Williams Optics red dot finder in one shoe and a laser pointer (for the zenith) in the other and also has a 60mm guide scope converted into a right angled finder second mini telescope with the aid of the 2x Barlow connected to the tube rings with an Askar multi connection plate 90. Both scopes use 1.25" and 2" WO Durabrite dielectrics. Now all I need to get is the Baader contrast boosters and a Vixen Porta ii mount. Will install the flocking and Sharpie the inner focuser shiny bits to darken down for even better contrast. The ST80 has come a long way since its purchase almost a year ago when it just sat as an optical tube with stock focuser on a camera tripod. Of all the upgrades I have done then the TS Optics focuser was the key improvement and anyone considering this upgrade then all I will say is this. If you can afford it then don't think, just buy one. You shouldn't regret it. I know I didn't 😁👍

    I used the same focuser and put it on a Bresser Messier 90/900 achromatic telescope. The 90/900 was cheap, the optics good but the focuser was cheap plastic. Bresser also doesn't use the standard finder bracket like skywatcher does and the dovetail on the scope was also weirdly different. At the time the price of the crayford was also at 169€. Only thing: you had luck your tube did fit, I had to grind up some metal and use force to get the ring holding the focuser in (every Information I had was the tube should have had the 86 mm diameter).

  • @thisissparta3965
    @thisissparta3965 Рік тому

    If you don't like the shine from the metal focuser you could always cut out a baffle from a black piece of hard plastic with a hole cut out the middle and even flock it. Then just bond it to the flange with some araldite.

    Hello Martin, I've noticed in the Dso images of both part 1 and part 2 of this series, there seems to be a focus tilt. The bottom half of the image seems sharper than the upper half. This is consistent before and after the focuser upgrade... what could be the issue?

    • @MPAstro
      @MPAstro  Рік тому

      Good point, I've found out it was a faulty T-ring adapter on my camera, it had free play when my Canon 600D was connected and there was abit of slop, so I've replaced it with better quality one, just shows that you don't always get good products from Amazon, that will teach me to scrimp on a cheap T-ring.

    Hi Martin. Very detailed video and great results. I done similar with a st120 and bought the upgraded skywatcher focuser. It didn't come with a finderscope mount either. An ed72 probably makes more financial sense but we do these things in our hobby. Might look into this focuser for my st80 to get using my 2" eyepieces. Clear skies Vic

      Thanks for the info Vic. I agree the ED72 is defo a bargain imaging scope for the money, which I did consider it at some point, but now my new RVO 60ED was more suitable for me, as I really wanted the widefield Astrophotography, though the 72ED is widefield as well but not quite enough for the Deep Sky Objects I wanted to image. Thanks for watching Vic, there will be more videos coming very soon, the only problem I have now is the bad weather moving in my area.
