The scariest part of this for me is the knowledge that there exists a psychological disorder, Capgras Syndrome, which has the symptom of having the delusional belief that one's spouse has been replaced by an imposter. Capgras is associated with dementia although episodes of paranoid schizophrenia can also create the same symptoms.
I learned of capgras because of the netflix movie The Son
The ending of story has also Fregoli delusion elements. The story is maybe not a perfect representation of psychosis but the author definitely did their homework.
I thought it was this also the changes to his eyes and hair and even the nose can over time change (eyes are rare but possible. My eyes change from green to blue.)
My grandmother has schizophrenia and thinks it's an Asian women in the house under her bed and sleeping with her roommate.
i thought capgras was your loved one being replaced by an IDENTICAL imposter though, this is about their appearance changing somewhat subtly over time.
being married to a shapeshifter seems like it would be very convenient, especially if for the 18 years you havent noticed it nothing bad has happened to you
This exactly, so many people are saying it’s a terrifying story and that poor woman. She basically started neglecting her kids and ran out on her family because she figured out they weren’t human. That poor family…stuck with a human that hates them.

ikr?! It's been a while since I was actually intrigued by a creepypasta. While it was still a "shapeshifter" story, it was well written and had me doubting whether she really is just going crazy for some time

As long as you stay away from the cringy looking titles that are phrased the same. You'll have a blast in nosleep or the narrators here on who's stories are all from there(nosleep). Just don't go to titles that mention the fact that their employers gave them a strange ser of rules. Those are mainly the ones that still feel like are "honoring" the original definition for the word "creepypasta".
I know her instincts turned out to be right, but she sure turned on her family quick at the first sign of strangeness. Pretty sure a few pictures wouldn't turn my decades long spouse into a terrifying stranger on a dime. So many other possibilities.

I'm sorry, but the last quarter of this was just hilarious. They've been together for 18 YEARS! It couldn't possibly be that hard to save the relationship with a few calming words and honesty, but for some reason they're all assholes for absolutely no reason. Show her the wonders of shapeshifting! What does he have to threaten her for? The way her whole family suddenly does an about-face just jarred me from the story.

I figured it was going to be a Capgras delusion situation (where people basically stop recognizing a loved one on an emotional level, and start thinking they've been replaced by an impostor, it's unfortunately more common than you'd think, usually bc of a traumatic brain injury), but that obviously wouldn't explain why old pictures of them would look different

I don’t get why he kept it a secret from her and is now mad that she found out. He should’ve hid it better if he didn’t want her to find out, or of come out and told her what he really is since he loves her I’m assuming, that’s why they had kids together and live together…

I kept listening impatiently, hoping to get answers, but what's unnerving is that there really aren't any. I mean, we know that the guy's a shape-shifter who has a hard time maintaining an appearance, but like…why everything else? Why did he marry a human woman, why is he there, what is his purpose? Either way…moral of the story: If you think your life is perfect, then your life is a lie, whether you know it or not.

@Tin Can I'm guessing it's sime sort of experimental thing. Plus maybe a dash of they aren't able to reproduce with their own kind.
Meaning, they are attempting to take over and are seeing how long it would take for a human to realize their subtle shifts in appearance and that their spieces is dying out so they have to mate with humans. The reason to get her back would probably be along the experimental lines. Can they scare her into being complacent with it, or maybe convince her it's in her head wince she is back home maybe.
To be honest with you I enjoyed the start of the story, but it's unclear why the Shape shifters suddenly turn malevolent. After giving this woman a happy life for 18 years why suddenly change because she found out? And the kids are still her kids right? Or maybe they aren't and that's the point? A lot more could have been done with this story to make the motivations and the methods a bit more clear. The open ending to the story also makes it a bit unbelievable that she survived to write the story in the first place if the shape shifter is truly evil.

It's like a creepier version of a story on the Outer Limits made in the mid 1990's. The night at home didn't seem logical. They could have handled it a lot better, avoiding problems and attention.

I cant remember if it was this channel but can someone help, I remember listening to a creepy pasta like 2-3years ago where the mother of the op heard scratching noises went outside and got killed by some creature, later in the story the dad and son decide to leave their town and end up getting their car totalled by a creature. I can go into deeper specifics if needed. I just really wanna listen to it again

okay, everything else aside, I just want to point out how weird it is that she acts like the length of his hair changing over time is one of the weird things going on here. Like, people's hair length isn't an immutable trait, at all?? Lol, like, this is kind of very basic human biology???
also, just changing your hair color isn't *that* strange either, like it's not something a lot of men really commonly do I guess, but it's not exactly some impossible enigma in and of itself, either
eyes and facial structure are weirder, obvs, but I still think hair length is bizarre to bring up, especially since a lot of men tend to get their hair cut shorter as they get older?

Man this was a doozy of a tale. My solar plexus hurts from being rock hard with fight or flight spasms at every sentence., till the terrifying ending. Poor woman.
i actually thought the poor women had slow set dementia it would make sense her not recognising her family.
Leaving some things up to the imagination can make a story more compelling & scary, but in this case, I was a little disappointed, & left wanting a bit more from the plot. The prose is competently written, with an interesting premise & a lot of potential, but it doesn't give quite enough info for me to fill in the blanks on my own.
This started as such a good story and then went downhill so quick... all you had to do is make her kill the husband because her delusions made the relationship crumble, to then find out she actually has Prosopagnosia.

I don't know if it was because of the kind of day I've had today, filled with anxiety but this story pushed me over the edge. I felt the panic she felt so deeply I felt like crying. I'm still trying to steady my breathing. Wonderful narration as always and such a good story.

Alright, so the concept was promising, but the execution was dissapointing. It felt like the author was stretching so hard to make every situation scary that it fell into the realm of sillyness. There are a few different directions the story could have gone that would have salvaged the whole plot, could have even made it brilliant, but the story just didn’t go there.
I want to see the other side of this story, because from everyone else’s point of view, the moms acting shady. Second Title “My mom is acting weird after she looked through our photo album. Has she discovered our secret?”
