- A look at the steam scene around the North East of England from 2008 to 2018.
We start at the Tanfield Railway, taking a look around the Engine Shed at Marley Hill behind taking a look at visiting USA S100 No. 35 and Hawthorn Leslie and Company 0-4-0ST No 2 on the line running from East Tanfield to Sunniside. The line passes by Causey Arch, the oldest surviving single-arch railway bridge in the world.
Next, we move to the nearby Beamish Museum, looking at their five railway systems, the Pockerley Waggonway, Colliery Railway, Narrow Gauge Railway, Tramways & Rowley Station. Here we see Peckett 'May' and Andrew Barclay 'Bon Accord' in action at Rowley Station, Puffing Billy & Steam Elephant in steam at Pockerley, Head Wrighston Coffee Pot No. 1 and Lewin No. 18 in action on the Colliery line and Samson, Statfold & Jack Lane on the narrow gauge line. We see the replica Samson locomotive also on her travels at the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway's Quirks & Curiosities II Gala in 2017.
We then move to Northumberland to the Aln Valley Railway & Heatherslaw Light Railway, before taking a look at the National Railway Museum at York (including the 2008 & 2012 Railfest events) and Shildon.
Finally moving to Yorkshire we take a look at the Embsay & Bolton Abbey and Middleton Railways.
Steaming Along
With my move to a 4K camera in 2018, this seemed like the perfect opportunity for a series of compilation videos with my archived pre 4K material. Steaming Along is a series of compilation videos looking at the key locations and locomotives on some of Britain's best preserved railways.
This is the first episode of series 2 of Steaming Along, continuing a look before I moved 4K. This series will have episodes focused on Main Line Steam, Capital Steam, the Lake District, the North East, the South and the Great Little Trains of Wales.
Series 2:
The Lake District - • Steaming Along: The La...
Capital Steam - • Steaming Along: Capita...

I love how the cavalcade at 19:20 comprises a bunch of weird and wonderful locomotives, and then Taliesin III just for laughs
Very nice video!! 🚂👍
Very nice done :)
Ah Tanfield... the oldest working railway in the world! Brings back very happy childhood memories!
Thanks from...Kentucky USA
All the engines so clean and beautiful. I take it that all the engines burn diesel in. Really like the shop. 👍👍
This is the first time I’ve seen an S100 in a video in colour
The pockerley place looks awesome!! Will have to visit here one day. :-)
Wonderful compilation. Just have to ask though; What is that pacific-looking locomotive at 11:46 ? It almost looks like something from the LSWR, but looking at the wheels and other features it looks like could've come from Australia. I've just never seen anything like it before.
At 0:52 what’s that diesel called?
Armstrong Whitworth No.2
