Jeff Nippard Jeff is that a Sony Android TV behind you in your room at the start of the video?
Jeff Nippard & AlphaDestiny both of you have a plethora of knowledge but what is so awesome about this interview is that you both are on opposite spectrums 💪😎👍
35:57 - Fart
Thanks for this. Quick thing I learned in my grad studies regarding nuclei in the muscle: there is a somewhat fixed ratio of nuclei to cytosol in the muscle. This is geenrally true because muscles operate under cytosolic hypertrophy, noy hyperplasia (unless youre using steroids or developing and so on..). So, each nucleus has a cytosolic domain which, seems to be the least energetically expensive state for maintenance . So as you grow nuclei must increase in number in order to maintain the same physical domain. There is definitely some leeway im sure but without this youre growth is necessarily limited bc there is less transcriptional control per region. I hope that makes sense. Of course this rule doesn't apply when you have huge mucle damage and denervation/reinnervation or faulty satellite cell activation in response to damage, but in regards to regular adult muscle growth and maintenance this is not bro science. This phenomenon also helps account for 'muscle memory'. We've seen it in our lab (in the context of aging and disease) and a more famous animal study showed it as well (Bruusgaarde et al., 2010).
35:58 a cartoon sounding fart that is weirdly very audible.
I have to give props to Jeff for being so respectful when asking alpha questions about his ideals and not slamming on him or forcing a debate when you know he disagrees.
Austen Santana that’s a good point. Some of what this guy says seems to be a bit of bro science to me, but Jeff was super nice and a great host. Props to Jeff as always
we it's hard to disagree Alex like jeff is very scientific since he always references exercise science textbooks
AlexChrisMartin I wouldn't necessarily call it bro science but you have a point. I've been watching Alpha for awhile and he and Team3DAlpha have both had good research on all the things said.
you can't have said this statement any better. There's definitely disrespectful statements that AlphaDestiny has mentioned, like at (33:30) about 100% guaranteed hypertrophy. Alpha is to firm, so I stopped watching it at this point. I respect anyone's work... but ill pass this one.
AlexChrisMartin yeah some is anecdotal
Thank you so much for having me on! It was an absolute pleasure, and I am both humbled and honored to have shared this information with you and your viewers. Keep killing the content, and with that I wish everyone the best of gains! Get yoked :)
T. Muru he has a playlist on his channel of all of his full body workouts
AlphaDestiny manlet power!!
T. Muru Intensity days take up to an hour. Volume days are dependent on work capacity. If it’s high (which is usually the case for most full body trainers) then you’ll be out within 75-90 minutes.
Alex you actually gave off a better vibe in this video than your usual ones on your channel. You give out a confident but calm vibe here whereas in your own videos, you sometimes give off a bit of a slightly arrogant teenager vibe. Constructive criticism. Still love your channel and all the work you have done!
Amen

ill rather have no gains than being 5 foot 6 could you imagine 😂😂

@Jeeses99 I dont think alpha destiny and athlean x match at all. Completely different training philosophies.
I'm really happy we got this interview with Dom Mazzetti.
“Body hair is like makeup for your abs”
-Dom Mazzetti
No way I could only do twice a week in the gym. I love training and feel like a turd if I don't go
Same. Gotta go every day or I feel lazy.
sounds like a you problem
especially now during lockdown if i wasnt hitting 6 times a week i would be bored out of my mind
@@Gbonejohn1974 Good point
If I only went 2 days a week I’d prolly end up not going with my lazy ass. I gotta aim for 5 days a week so I get at least 3
I can just imagine Alex telling a girl over and over, “It’s not about the size it’s the weighted stretch!”
Journey To Jacked haha suck in baby
Been doing this "yoke" training during my bulk, I've added heavy rack pulls and no doubt this has increased my deadlift quite a bit. Holding onto that heavy weight, stretching the traps, building the neck really works by overloading them with heavy weights, heavy rows, etc.
Ppp
This is one of the best AlphaDestiny interviews I've seen. Props to the Jeff for going deep. You can really tell Alpha has a wealth of knowledge as a coach.
LOL so funny to see you include your height at the bottom of the description Jeff haha
Anthony Pietrobono he wouldnt be able to reach it if it was at the top, ay lmao... Sorry, I had to...
Well for some reason everyone asks so he kinda just did that I️ think

This is 2 years old now and I can see the difference this has made to your own neck and traps watching your videos now. So much more width 💪
I agree with the bodyfat discussion. I sit between 9-12% bodyfat most of the year. I have been working as a personal trainer for 7 years and competing with powerlifting and weightlifting off and on for 10. I've gotten way more compliments when sitting around 12-14% bodyfat after training cycles and on break. There is truth to what you are saying for sure.
Please keep doing podcasts! I really enjoy these conversations. I started following you first then found Revive Stronger and when I saw you there as well I had a mindgasm. Keep these up please. Its nice to see different opinions converse about a topic and reaching a conclusion.
Definitely throwing my vote in for the heavier beefy bear build!

Ripped. skinny plus muscular.
Can't believe I just saw this now 3 years later! Love this collab
Same.
Here’s my take on the most crucial body parts to look hench, in order..
1. Neck and traps- thickness, masculinity, bull dog like
2. Upper and lower lats- V shape, broad back, strong stability, width, aesthetic
3. Chest- alphaness, strength, changes your postural appearance
4. Quads- chunky, thick, strong base, like women who squat loads- they instantly look hencher
I honestly think that "bear" look is really attractive with or without clothes.
Helen Gomes agree
Agree to agree to disagree agreeably, agreed?
I'm a big bear named big Lenny
Helen Gomes Thank you.
Bear mode on girls look better too. They have bigger asses and thighs
"Who walks around shirtless all the time pumped up doing lat spreads..." 🙋🏽♂️
People who can. Probably not you.
lol same xd just don't wear a shit whenever possible
BIG FUCKEN LENNY!!!!!
Oh no you have ILS bro.... Invisible Lat Syndrome....
I’m sorry to say, but you are diagnosed with severe ILS and it is beyond curable
This physique is the most attractive to me. To actually look strong, not just "chisled". To look like they can actually protect you. Insanely sexy.
Isajay12 Thanks cutie.
U summed it up in a nut's shell.
Dam all this time i was chasing chisled
Protect you from who? Do you live like in the medieval times?
+Juan Esteban When people say that it is usually an instinctive feeling that is programmed for females. That is why women like muscles and other masculine traits, it is an instinctive feeling. In todays world muscles are almost useless but they are still attracted to muscular men, why? It takes hundreds of years for evolution to do its job. Maybe in 500 years from now the skinnyfat physique will be the most desireable.
Except most scrawny boxers would knock him out
this was one of the best interviews i've ever seen on youtube. Just so interesting from start to finish. Two passionate sincere fellas imparting sound valuable wisdom at no financial cost.
An hour and a half of Jeff ??? my life just got so much better
Amazing collaboration! It's great that this approach is coming to light. So many young teens wanting to cut down and get shredded when it's totally unhealthy to their physiques, hormone levels and development as a man. I think this is a much healthier way to treat your body, besides you're actually focused on getting stronger which will automatically make you bigger. Keep it up guys!
I'm not clear how it is much healthier. Can you substantiate this?
I like my abs to pop and be defined that’s why I like shred but I like the large bulk physique, so what can I do?
The only thing you can do is choose bro, I personally like to hover around 10-12% bodyfat, which is aesthetic as fuck without my shirt on but is not that impressive with clothes, though I make sure to wear tight clothes. I mean people are still impressed by your physique, but you will not nearly be as big as bear mode. At the end, you have to chose, as a 6'1'' dude being a bit more shredded is easier, so its what I do
Daan C for gains I’m going for Bear mode and then cut to regain my abs.
@@tony_5156 Honestly going the natural route it is either one or the other. The human body doesn't want to stay shredded and big at the same time. Try increasing your calories, and lifting heavier. If you don't like the look you can always cut back down.
Nice podcast guys. I’m 42 and have and have had too many injuries to put a lot of this into play, but still a great listen. I like the outside the box thinkers in this planet. Good stuff guys.
Thanks for introducing me to Alex's channel, Jeff! I'm running your Power Building program right now, and I consider the neck exercises mandatory.
This interview is hilarious! I have a lot of respect for you Jeff. This is totally out of your realm. But I always enjoy the variety of content you bring to the channel. Good stuff.
Training only twice a week would feel weird. Training on a five day a week schedule and a light weekend schedule keeps me in the groove of putting in the work and not slacking.
Definitely.
Paul S You get used to it training less honestly and you will end up enjoying it more, I used to be excited to train everyday I trained 7 days a week.
Ya but if you go full energy mode a lot can be done in 2 days just watch a video of Alex on his intensity day or volume day.
Steven B I hear you man I just feel like I would fall into the trap of not giving my all in that day. Plus my fav part of my day is training aside from eating Hahaha.
When you do a split you work every muscle group once a weak, if you do full body twice a week you work every muscle group twice a week so which is better?
I only know how to go beer mode
Alex introduced me to rack pulls and after years of doing all forms of shrugs with very little gains, my traps finally emerged and they're now nice & thick :)
Love hearing a different outlook on things rather than the typical by the book "science-based" approach!
More of this Jeff please with you two. There's a lot more things you can both talk about and it's very interesting as I would argue you two are leading the fitness community in UA-cam at the moment in terms of natural bodybuilding and getting big.
Crazy, can't believe I am just seeing this now! Shotout my bro AD!

Love the discussion here - been thinking about the level of composition for myself personally and the look I want to go for. This has been helpful in thinking about who I want to be.
Thank you for this video Jeff and Alex! Been looking forward to this for a long time and you both went above and beyond. Interesting and entertaining!

Now that I am lifting consistently, I'm putting on mass and NOBODY NOTICES.
Fuck it though. I want to be strong because I like being strong, not because I want to impress other people.
Very informational! Alex seems really awesome. Jeff, could you please make a like a 12-20 long video series where you actually train someone who's maybe 15-25lbs heavy and take them to healthy and big?
those anecdotes ring true to me! i'm so glad i started intensely swimming at the age of 12 and developed muscles which sustained the muscle mass as foundation of my figure 20 years later!

First time I've ever heard bodybuilding guys talking so openly about how this whole thing is basically about "the vain approach"! Of COURSE it's about impressing other people. How much motivation would you truly have if you knew no one else would ever see you?
The 2-day setup is amazing. I am itching to go in every heavy and always PR. But think about it..I'm fully recovered and I've been thinking about lifting for days. PR's are inevitable.
This was such a refreshing interview. Its nice to hear a different point of view

pretty interesting interview, some good points brought up from both sides, but the whole thing felt like an advert for Alex's ideas and workout style. Serious respect for Jeff for not kicking back or saying when he clearly disagrees with some of the ideas
Very very great interview i enjoy listening to it while I was working out I take the advice from alpha Dynasty as well as your channel a lot of my workouts are created to look a little wider I always admire the way Mike Tyson look in his early days and that's what I strive for in my workouts
I was like, "It's strange I train so similarly to this guy, and I've never heard of him."
Then you asked him about his influences and it all made sense.

Bro that shirt!!! That's awesome I want one! Favorite show dude.

I remember an early Sylvester Stallone interview after rocky 3.. In which she said if you develop your neck and shoulders the perception is you were a much bigger guy. That’s when he was questioned about being a 5 foot 10 inch 175 pound guy playing a heavyweight boxer.
Isn't 175 in the middleweight category?
Phenomenal video!!!! Thank you to the both of you for sharing!
Love the interviews! Would be great if you could make more of those (don't get me wrong, all of your videos are awesome)
Jeff is a great, impartial and pretty neutral host to interviews despite his great knowledge and opinions in the fitness domain. Well done, @JeffNippard!!
When I was active duty USMC, and deployed, I hit my lowest body fat ever (and I think since) at 12%, but I still didn’t have ab definition. Some of us just carry more fat in the belly than others. I have recently learned I can build some nice shoulders and traps, though (I wasn’t trying to build them, just working on functional strength for our fitness test, losing weight, and building endurance).
Thanks for the discussion (even though I’m Jan 2020 late)!
I thought the same thing my entire life. However now I have realized I never grew the muscles in my core and did things to make them big as now I am at a much higher body fat percentage than I was in my younger years while having abs year round.
I highly doubt you were 12% if you had no separation in the abdominals. Bodyfat scanning is wildly inaccurate if that's what you did
@@laurikotivuori1585 too many people say this, lol " i was 11% bf but no abs" which means you arent lol
Lol… yeah you weren’t @ 12% then marine.
The Nucleus Overload is so correct its amazing, im a soccerplayer and i used to bicycle to get the phase up for my acceleration in running speed for the game, right, I then started squatting in the gym, not only did i start out with 10kg plates on each side(very weak) after 10 months(Which is now) i squat 405 for 3 with about 6 months of hardcore legs push pull push programming.. im young so i can almost overload/increase weights every god damn week
Thank you for consistently putting out such great content Jeff.

Anyone else notice the Lost numbers on Jeff’s shirt at the end? Frickin awesome. Lol
I had that shirt too.. but i lost it. Bad luck i guess
Loving the info here! I keep telling my fiancé. "Watch Jeff Nippard!" I am a trainer and LOVE fitness, but Rich is more of a science/gamer guy. He enjoys every workout when he does have one, but he has a degenerative knee problem (the name escapes me atm) and it turns him off to fitness along with our crazy life as parents to 3. I'm going to get him hooked though, soon! :)
Honestly been following awhile. This is first comment and I had to say this is all very interesting and I wish he could give you references for his methods. I think the logic in this situation has totally opened up after listening to this. We are so dialed into what the fitness industry says and how studies can say a specific thing then it’s regurgitated so readily through social media. I would love to look into more of the biological adaptations and how his methods work rather than just looking at the volume, frequency, intensity, etc... like we usually do for hypertrophy.
Love the vid man!
