Thanks for this. Quick thing I learned in my grad studies regarding nuclei in the muscle: there is a somewhat fixed ratio of nuclei to cytosol in the muscle. This is geenrally true because muscles operate under cytosolic hypertrophy, noy hyperplasia (unless youre using steroids or developing and so on..). So, each nucleus has a cytosolic domain which, seems to be the least energetically expensive state for maintenance . So as you grow nuclei must increase in number in order to maintain the same physical domain. There is definitely some leeway im sure but without this youre growth is necessarily limited bc there is less transcriptional control per region. I hope that makes sense. Of course this rule doesn't apply when you have huge mucle damage and denervation/reinnervation or faulty satellite cell activation in response to damage, but in regards to regular adult muscle growth and maintenance this is not bro science. This phenomenon also helps account for 'muscle memory'. We've seen it in our lab (in the context of aging and disease) and a more famous animal study showed it as well (Bruusgaarde et al., 2010).

I have been working as a personal trainer for 7 years and competing with powerlifting and weightlifting off and on for 10. 1. Neck and traps- thickness, masculinity, bull dog like
    2. Upper and lower lats- V shape, broad back, strong stability, width, aesthetic
    3. Chest- alphaness, strength, changes your postural appearance
    4. Quads- chunky, thick, strong base, like women who squat loads- they instantly look hencher

In todays world muscles are almost useless but they are still attracted to muscular men, why? It takes hundreds of years for evolution to do its job. I mean people are still impressed by your physique, but you will not nearly be as big as bear mode. When I was active duty USMC, and deployed, I hit my lowest body fat ever (and I think since) at 12%, but I still didn’t have ab definition. Some of us just carry more fat in the belly than others. I have recently learned I can build some nice shoulders and traps, though (I wasn’t trying to build them, just working on functional strength for our fitness test, losing weight, and building endurance).
Thanks for the discussion (even though I’m Jan 2020 late)!

Honestly been following awhile. This is first comment and I had to say this is all very interesting and I wish he could give you references for his methods. I think the logic in this situation has totally opened up after listening to this. We are so dialed into what the fitness industry says and how studies can say a specific thing then it’s regurgitated so readily through social media. I would love to look into more of the biological adaptations and how his methods work rather than just looking at the volume, frequency, intensity, etc... like we usually do for hypertrophy.
