Good afternoon Scott . I enjoy watching your videos . I do most of my truck repairs just by learning new tricks from you . I have a 2007 Freightliner Century with a Detroit 60 14 L in it . I have been having a problem with my Davco fuel and water separator unit . I installed a new filter in it .After 60 miles of driving , the fuel keeps getting lower than the fuel lines sending air with fuel to the injectors causing loss of power , shacking and white smoke. I replaced the filter again , I replaced all the fuel lines from the tanks all the way to the Davco unit and back ,I also replaced the fuel pump plus the the fuel lines ,I checked all connections and made sure that there is no air or fuel leak anywhere . The problem still exist . I have been topping the container with fuel half way through my trips so I don't mess up the injectors. Repair shops couldn't find the problem ,some of them suggested that I replace the whole water separator unit . So before I buy and replace a new unit , I decided to get your advice first . Thank you
@@Starkeyfamilyfixing Hello Scott , thank you for your reply .The globe is in good shape and has no cracks . I replaced the check ball recently . I inspected all the shut off valves ,every thing is clean and has no leak . I even replaced the check valve at the back of the engine with the fuel return lines all the way to the top of the trans.
I enjoy tour videos very much, well made, to the point, easy to understand, already changed the door handle on my truck after watching how u do it, save me some money and made me gain confidence in my skills to tackle the next project, so thank u very much for taking the time to make this videos, greetings from Florida
Excellent vid. Step by step. Gonna have to have mine tested because I upgraded to a B&W waste gated and I swear I feel no difference. But hear lots of air when it boosts past 25 psi
Just keep in mind , that adding more power like upgrading your turbo adds more pressure. So if your air to air cooler is older they will give out . The same goes for all of your boots , clamps , ect. But also check your exhaust where it mounts to the turbo. I was given the same sound as when my cooler burst . The lip that locks to the turbo had cracked off half way around the s pipe on the exhaust coming off the turbo .
I was going to also add I did another video before changing the cooler on how to test it . I went through the whole process, it’s not hard . If you have a welder then you could even build your own tester pretty simple
Hey I have a 07 columbia and right now the turbo is being replaced and i was told i needed a exhaust manifold and CAC. I honestly just want to get the truck moving so I can get it home and change everything else myself. Can I still run after the turbo has been changed and the small crack is still in the exhaust manifold, or is that a case for more problems?
Well it really depends on the size of the crack and where the crack is . Yes it will be louder , but you want to make sure the heat is not going to escape the crack and burn something. Otherwise drive it home . I would suggest not doing another manifold and buying a header pipe . For some reason I know alot of people I know that has had one crack , has had multiple crack , but the ones buying a header have had no issues after . Everything still bolts up the same too ! Make sure regardless of what you choose , replace all the hardware with new !!
Where did you get your parts from ? Update they put on the new turbo , everything seemed fine down the road, the next day the truck felt like it wouldn't pull the same, found a leak coming from the turbo it got so hit that's it burned my air filter housing and the filter. I'm back at the shop they took the turbo back off and it was oil leaking out into the exhaust, so apparently the turbo was no good. But now I'm worried about the exhaust because one of the bolts case loose from the exhaust to turbo, I'm honestly thinking about this header pipe because I rather get it fixed while everything is already open . I'm not sure what caused it to burn
@@theprissytrucker743 got the turbo straight from the manufacturer , not the dealership. The dealership charges 4 times more then the dealer on the same turbo and wants the core or they will charge you for that too !
Normally blowing black smoke and losing power sounds like a fuel injector. Is your truck kinda jerking too when coming to a hill or under a load ? If a fuel injector gets clogged, or just quits working properly. . Also there is a small wire harness that can get shorts that is connected to the injectors . ( injector harness ) . This is common for injectors to go bad . In the many years I have been driving , I have had many replaced. The last time I had replaced a full box set a Freightliner dealership was running a sale for $1800 for replacement , full set of new not rebuilt injectors , and harness , with a 160,000 mile warranty. This is one of the few times it was cheaper to take it to the dealership .
Most of the time a check engine light will come on too , but not always . Also make sure your fuel filter is good ! This can also cause a starving engine of loss of power and smoke from the exhaust. Most of the time it’s the injectors though.
You can replace just 1 injector if needed but , if 1 is bad normally the others are not far away from going bad , from just being wore out . If a low money issue is there I would say do what you have to and can afford. But check for codes , this can give you an indication of how many are bad , and which ones , if it’s just an injector harness problem, I have bought them for as low as $60 . Just have to shop around. I hope this helps you out , it’s hard to say what’s wrong without being there to diagnose everything in person. So in this case check for codes , and I would have it put on a computer.

Check the globe for any cracks , this will allow air in . There is also a check ball under filter that may be stuck or has something in it .
I would also check for leaks at the shutoff valves .
Sounds like you have covered the basics , you have used a new oring on the globe on the top and bottom right ?

Wow ! This is exactly what I like to see , a driver saving theirselves a fortune and doing the job themselves !!!! I’m proud of you !!!!

It's a good idea to test the new one before you put it in
Thank you sir. Very good job!
Happy to hear that !!!!!
Hey I think I’m having that same problem… beside loosing power, were you also burning more fuel than usual with the bad intercooler?
Wel your going to because you engine does not have the right amount of air , it will use more fuel

Hey. What size is the crowfoot wrench. I need to replace that oil feed line to the turbo
These can vary even on the same type of truck but I was thinking 1/2 or 9/16 .
Thank you for the lessons 👍👍🙏🏼
How much is the price on the inner cooler
! honestly cant remember , I guess I buy to many parts lol .
He said $620 on the video
Yes I did replace all the O rings at the top and the bottom . They are all new..
I’m loosing power too, but my truck started blowing black smoke as well. Do you think it’s related to inner cooler?

There could be several other things that can cause what is happening also . So have it checked out before buying anything.
I wish I could help you out more on this . But please let me know what you find out !!!
Your son should be a linebacker. Lol!
Haaa !! He did play !!!
He did play !!!!
Thanks for watching !!!
Mine is 2200 for a oem part at peterbilt
That’s a good price for being at a dealership
Will a bad charge air cooler cause a lot off soot threw the exhaust
