Hey there! I don't normally do this, but this video is struggling really hard. It's quite literally the worst performing video of the last couple of years. And I just want to understand why is this happening. So it would mean the world to me if you give me your honest thoughts and criticism about this video. Be brutally honest. I can take it.
    Thank you in advance.

A very small percentage of people read comics, because people don't read much at all. An even smaller percentage of them read "old" comics. That's why comic book videos attracts many, it's curiosity (and also because they will not read it themselves). Films on the other hand are the most mainstream media available at the moment, and a lot people have either watched or have an opinion about every movie, even imposed by other film reviewing yt channels.
Thumbnail could be a problem here, because it doesn't hint that the video will be about comics too (yea it's stupid YT thing)

A pinch of slat to put the taste of my feedback into context: I do not read comics / graphic novels or whatever else the audience needs to call them now. I am a fan of the Bat-Man character but not a cultist. Superman would win in a fight between them. Now my thoughts (since you asked). Perhaps this video is not performing well because most of the audience has fallen insanely in love with the Nolan trilogy. Personally I saw them at the dollar cinema and thought I over-paid. Bale bores me to tears and Nolan... well people like him. People also claim to like rap music so... I'm waxing long here to deliver a simple response. Your content was 99% right on the money. If that was your aim, congratulations. If your aim was to make this video popular... then you need to say something that Bat-Nolan cultists want to hear. Just my humble thoughts. Personally I hope you keep making this exact kind of piece because I like to hear your opinion. Even when it's wrong. (OH, and BRAVO to your bravery for asking for honest feedback. That is impressive.)

I agree with @jackfromshack this is a great video, and I can't wait to see your follow up about the Dark Knight. Batman Begins is my favorite out of the DK trilogy. Unlike The Dark Knight or the 1989 movie, Batman Begins focuses on the psychy on Bruce Wayne, showing his transition into becoming Batman. Plus, unlike The Dark Knigh and The Dark Knight Rises, it's a good balance of gritty realism and comic book escapism.

I think you got the ending wrong... Batman says to Gordon that he would try to stop Ra's by himself. Gordon destroying the rails was a backup solution in the case Batman failed.
The important thing to notice is that Ra's is killed by Gordon, not Batman. Since Gordon is a cop, he has the right and the duty to kill a terrorist if that means saving innocent people. Batman knows this and doesn't interfere.
Some people say that Batman should have tried to save Ra's life, but the thing is that he did try. He got on the train and tried to stop it before it was too late, but in the end it was all for nothing, as Ra's destroys the controls to prevent the train from stopping. He brought that upon himself.

Can’t agree about the Wayne’s death. I thought that’s one of the times the shaky cam actually works. It captures how Bruce would over processing such a traumatic experience. And the switch from the city to the scummy alley is his introduction to how scary the real world really is.

“Bragging”? Maybe they just like opera.

Agree and disagree. The studio was right from the point of fan service. Fans would be expecting the Batmobile. Artistically though it kinda messes with the films pacing.

The Batmobile scenes are fine but it feels like they were added only to add more action to the film since Nolan wasn't really great at normal action scenes compared to dialogue heavy scenes(The Bank robbery scene being one of the exceptions), especially the Joker chase scene with the Bike in the Dark Knight.

I'm probably in the minority here but my big problem with the Nolan films is that they don't pick a lane. They talk a big game about being a more grounded take on the batman mythos but they still have impossible gadgets and city destroying superweapons. But then they won't commit to having fantastical elements like Venom or the Lazarus pit. Either do a more grounded movie about what batman would be like in the real world or do one that's more like the comics.

Im not a huge fan of this film but I love how Nolan was the only one to keep Batman cape always upfront as curtains and also love how the cape was used to glide as well. Something that Matt Reeves Batman would emulate as well.
Finally, my major expose to this film was trough the videogame for PS2/Gamecube. I was fond of the interrogation sequences and how you were supposed to scare your enemies first instead of recklessly attack them unlike in Arkham Games.

    Another good video!
I hear many critics say that Batman isn't an interesting character, only his villains are. That never felt right to me, and I think you pointed out many of the reasons the movie versions of Batman feel so flat as characters. He feels puppeted into his position as a superhero rather than a three-dimensional character built from the ground up. It's like they were scared to do the work needed to make the audience understand Batman, and instead made him so enigmatic they hoped you wouldn't notice how one dimensional he is.
As they say a hero is only as interesting as his adversary, and so to is the opposite true. For instance Joker seemed to be rebelling against an ideology (about the good of common man) that wasn't really believed by anyone anyway.
In some ways it seems like Christopher Nolan is great at the advanced parts of cinema, but weak at the most basic aspects. Like if you take apart the plot and characters there is not much there. I

Never will I forget my very first time watching this film with my mother and my older sister, in my final Elementary school year. It was something special. 19 years later, I still treasure BATMAN BEGINS as the very first movie about my favorite superhero I was able to watch in theaters. Everything that's hooked me to be a lifelong fan of the weird figure of the dark is here, except:
    1. The sequel is objectively superior to this film (and RISES, as well, which was a mediocre conclusion to the whole trilogy).
    2. Batman does things that are just out of character, like letting his enemies die. By that point, people already didn't know Batman wasn't a vicious killer anymore like in his first 11 months.
    3. The fighting scenes, not just in this film, but in the sequels, are painfully basic, all because of the ridiculous idea of making it all as realistic as possible without embracing its comic book roots. The editing suffers a lot because of that.
    4. Sorry, Cillian Murphy, but your Scarecrow was severely underwritten for me to take you seriously.
    5. Katie Holmes is, rightfully, the worst actress of the entire movie. Her quotes and personality are fine, but her acting is not, plus, she lacked chemistry with Christian Bale.
    6. Going back to the third point, these movies have given casual moviegoers a very exaggerated and erroneous idea about Batman and his lore. Just because Batman has no powers, doesn't mean he's the most realistic superhero ever, nor is he relatable at all. I'd love giving people all the reasons why Batman is far from what they think he actually is, but I would never end.
And yet, despite all of this, I'll take this trilogy over what Matt Reeves is doing with Batman, who is just restricting himself to repeating the same realism nonsense that doomed superhero movies in the last decade.

I've watched your video twice. It's very, very good full of detail. At first I thought you were nit picking but I really started to see your point. I really loved how you pointed how this version of Batman doesn't have purpose. At the same time, it is, I think a relatable aspect of this version especially with how some men today feel they don't have a purpose. I really loved the comparison to The Phantasm I hadn't caught that before. I wish you had compared the voice Batman uses in the film vs the video game. I never played it as a kid but I saw one or two clips and it makes me wish Bale at chosen that voice instead of what is in all 3 films. The only time I like his voice is after was lit on fire. It made sense because well, he was just lit on fire. I agree a 1000% as well when you talk about the fight scenes. They are complete dog shit. I like the two fights in Rises with both Batman and Bane in them but other than that those fights are not ever goanna make a list of great fight scenes. The ending where Batman kills Ras does take you out of the film and does defeat the purpose of Batman throwing the gun in the lake and not killing the guy in The League of Shadows Temple. I feel that was WB call though. They did the same in Batman Forever. The themes are great didn't feel it's heavy-handed ness as is the cinematography. Those two I disagree with you on as well as the chase scene with the Batmoblie. I don't feel it is the same as Batman 89 at all. I hope when you are done doing the next two in The Dark knight Trilogy that you do the Burton/ Schumacker films as well. For me Batman 89 is poorly aged and Batman Returns is a mess. Batman & Robin could have been a good film if there was more time in the production as a whole and if it was set in an alternate universe. Batman Forever I feel is a flawed Masterpiece. If and when you do Batman Forever check out Hi-Top Films take on Batman Forever. It made me really examine the film for being more than nipples on neon.

Gotta agree that the lack or sometimes invasion of contradictory elements of the character and Gotham that this movies has does make it fall short after these years.
I remember when it came out that it wasn't nothing too special. Only dark knight made the franchise pop.
Many problems are that Nolan isn't a comics book enjoyer at all, so while he isn't dogmatic in "only taking it from the scriptures" he also seems to really dislike comics. And yeah, the growl is super stupid.
I also never feel like Batman evolves besides fighting better in these movies. They are carried by the support cast and villains.

Flaws and all, but I do love this movie, even more than its most famous sequel(s). As a child growing up in the 2000s, superhero cinema was pretty much just Sam Raimi's Spider-Man and the Fox-Men movies. But BB felt to 12-year-old me like the only who achieved the same level of quality and "coolness" of the Spiderman movies. Plus, it felt more mature and grounded but still somewhat kid friendly and fun. In comparison, I think kids under 13 would find The Dark Knight more confusing and dull than scary.
Is TDK the better film? Sure. But Begins remains my favorite Bat-movie because it simply was a better mix of gritty realism, 2000s angst and cool action for kids - in other words, fun for all ages!
The Dark Knight Rises is the only one in Nolan's trilogy that I dislike. But the other two were the Bat-films I grew up with so, warts and all, I still love them.

But the batman purist in me rn can’t help but nitpick in terms of characterization in the DK trilogy, for Bruce especially.

Another delightful video. As much as I used to put the Nolan movies on a pedestal, I've realized that they are far from perfect and he could do so much better with being subtle with the themes. Mostly with how he'll have subtext as spoken dialogue about the characters rather than things that fans and comic writers would talk about as the meaning of characters

While Batman Begins is my favourite of the Dark Knight Trilogy, I'm not a fan of Christopher Nolan's work, nor am I a fan of the trilogy as a whole. As for your video, I honestly think it lacks any sort of context for why Batman Begins was made the way it was, beyond "Batman & Robin sucked, so Warner Bros. wanted something different". It also lacks any sort of historical context as to where superhero/comic book based movies were in 2005 when Batman Begins came out, where the comics were at the time, and how people in general felt and thought about Batman in the 2000s. Overall, this video just doesn't fit into your overall history of Batman thing you've got going on here. It just talks about Batman Begins, which people have done to death since UA-cam started.

I'm gonna be real after Batman begins this trilogy always completely fumbled the visuals. Bale's batsuit and the designs for Jonkler and Twoface are great but everything else just doesnt work. Gotham is too clean and happy, The villain designs are all pathetically UNDERdesigned and simplistic to the point of losing all intimidation factor, the fight choreography is terrible, and in the dark knight rises all of the small atmosphere that Gotham still sorta had in TDK was completely stripped away for a movie that looks like its taking place in the middle of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade 24/7 LOL. People can rightfully shit on Batman forever and Batman and Robin all they want, but at least those movies had a good stylistic aesthetic and weren't afraid to give some scenes a theatrical stage-like atmosphere that all good Batman stories benefit from IMO.

The theory i have heard is that batman doesn't have a "a no kill" in the nolan movies, but rather a "no executions" rule. I'm not saying it totally works (it still doesn't for me personally) , but it makes the "i don't have to save you" pill a little easier to swallow.
I have always been disappointed that nolan didn't continue so much of the stuff that worked in the first movie. The Narrows is one of my all-time-favourite set pieces in any batman movie and not only do we never see the narrows again, but I think the fallout from the fear gas attack and subsequent train derailment would have been really cool to explore. But nope! nothing, except like a tiny mention in some online promotional material i read once. And why do the fight scenes suck so bad?
The nolan movies have always been a mixed bag. Hot take: i think the dark knight is the WORST of the trilogy. When Ledger isn't on screen its just dull and lame.
Salazar is the most underrated batman channel on youtube. Why's erbuddy sleepin on this guy? Serious GOAT status. Thank you.

Oh I hate these movies Dark Knight movies they're not just meh like they were passable in the time of the Bat-drought BUT caused the "ground" self hate the Batman franchise has had since. Just look at Todd Phillips with his Joker movies, The Penguin show runner saying he prefers the show to be seen as a crime drama separate from the Batman franchise and bragging about how they took care to remove things that were too comicbooky, Matt Reeves denouncing the out there of the Batman universe, an interview saying while he knows that Mr Freeze and Clayflace he is challenged by trying to figure how to ground them. Even stating if Clayface is to be done in Cinema should be done in the golden age version where he's just a regular man who is a master of disguise. Parallels what happened to Batman post Frank Miller.

Don’t get me wrong I like the dark knight trilogy but I see where you’re coming from on that I wish we would get a more fantastical Batman instead of the same thing that we’ve been getting for 15 years people think that if they do a more fantastical Batman it’s gonna be goofy as Batman and Robin but that’s not what fantastical means what it means is strange and wonderful, like something out of a story that’s what I would like to see accuracy to the comics but these directors don’t have any kind of respect for the source material or the character that they’re basing their movies off of The animated series was the only one that got it right when it came to Batman and was very accurate to the comics Matt reeves Zack Snyder including James Gunn none of them have a clear understanding of this character like they want us to believe they do.

I hate to say it but this a really, really terrible film. Even Batman and Robin was better. It’s such a literal minded, didactic idea of Batman’s character and origin. It’s just a drama-free series of boxes being ticked and it looks like it premiered on the WB. Batman is properly depicted as a big Victorian, over the top melodrama. I couldn’t care less what pathos led to the shoelaces he picked for his boots. Nolan is a functionary, - a sort of movie manager, masquerading as a a director.

The point of the film was from the beginning to show how and why batman came to be. The film not only succeeded in ticking all the boxes but also succeeded at telling a great story about heroism and it also makes batman likeable. Everything feels natural and organic and not forced. The fact that you were expecting something else isn't an argument nor are the nitpickings of the creator

@@ricotubbs5229 alright. Now try replying with arguments this time and not just negating what i said. The movie is great. It makes batman making sense more than year one i dare to say. He is likeable because he is relatable and because he is a good man. Nothing in his journey feels forced, i already explained how this movie sells it better how a man would become batman than year one. Complaining about the fight scenes for example isn't an argument. Why would we care about them? It is obvious that nolan didn't want to focus on them. It's just his artistic choice and expecting typical superhero fight scenes is... well a personal expectation.
