@@ChuckvanZyl That was a great set Chuck. I watched it on the day it was broadcast and it was such a cool thing to see unfold live. Last night I watched your interview about the Nightcrawlers and I thought it was a pretty amazing recollection. It was also nice to hear an artist relay an in depth story about someone other than themselves. A rare thing. It’s nice to hear stories about people discovering electronic music and their paths to creating their own. Although you included some bits about your own journey to that end, is there a longer more in depth interview with you that has that as its singular focus?
@@soarornor Thanks so much for watching that The Nightcrawlers interview. I still access memories of our friendship to this day... While I am an electronic musician, I also host Star's End Radio, and produce events for The Gatherings Concert Series, where I am constantly promoting music of this genre; so it's not unusual for me to speak fluently about someone else's music. Thank You for noticing this... Plus, I have benefited enormously by absorbing what I can of the exceptional works that I am delivering to the radio or concert audience... On 12/20/20, to mark 40 years on the air with Star's End, I took part in a comprehensive live online interview event. Ah, NICE! ALWAYS GREAT to listen to some AWESOME music from Chuck van Zyl, while having a cuppa Joe & telecommuting from home! EXCELLENT way to help me start the day! :-)
Wow. Missed the 'live' version but this you tube more than makes up for that. Truly great electronic music from Chuck. I will rewind this and go again. Just amazing my friend. Can't wait for the next live covid free solo concert in the area! You have hundreds of knobs, keys & switches at your disposal and you always touch the right ones at the right times. All hails from Southern New Jersey.
Awesome! I am just learning synthesis! So cool to hear your music! Love the sequences and seeing a Neutron in the mix, I have that and a Microbrute! WOW five Doepfer Dark Time sequencers! I am saving to buy one someday! Thanks so much for the music Chuck!
Especially love all the layers dancing about in the first half! Really helps to advance a meditative state for me. As an amateur at the start of his own experiments, it's enjoyable to recognize (and own) some of the more budget conscious equipment here, knowing with practice and experience that they can really sing.
we return to the perfect synthesis of the poetic and technical period of "time wind" by klaus schulze! and the next most memorable was "moondawn" and 1976 tour! I hope you come back to these filterings for the next disc release!
What a refreshing performance, is there any possibility that you could publish a layout of the equipment used. Saw Chuck, many moons ago in Sheffield UK , and have enjoyed his offerings ever since.
Thanks Eric! I miss our series too, and over the hiatus have been releasing concert albums of past shows. Perhaps you will please check us out on Bandcamp?! thegatheringsconcertseries.bandcamp.com/music
@@ChuckvanZyl I did not realize there was stuff on Bandcamp. I was at some of those shows! Thanks for the link. Do you get the benefit of the Bandcamp Fridays?
Steve, could you also put up the Ambient Lounge collection of music and videos that Daniel Peppitone put up on this particular day? It was excellent and I really want to see it again on the big screen and share it with people. So glad to see all the performances from this day have been put up. That was a superb day for ambient music.
@@SteveRoachOfficial Thanks for putting on such a quality event Steve. And thanks for putting up the performances as well for subsequent viewing. I only managed to see the entire first day into the late evening non stop. However I have satellite limited data internet and that day blew out all my data. The next day was all start and stop so I had to stop watching as it was impossible to enjoy it like that. Now I’m able to pull up the performances after midnight (when I have unlimited data) and enjoy. Very much appreciate it and yeah, Chuck’s Set was stellar. Perhaps interstellar.

Respect to Mr. Van Zyl NO COMPUTER! Pulling this off ad lib without the laptop as a crutch is old school man & machine. Nice job!
Thanks Man! These improvisations move my music ahead like nothing else...
Kinda not cool to make fun of an older gentleman for not being able to use a computer. He does fine without one!

The Berlin school was the best. Aside from Isao Tomita which was equal.
