On Day 2 of our Shimla Manali Tour, we started with the 5 Hours long but exciting Kalka-Shimla Mountain Toy Train journey.This Kalka-Shimla Toy Train journey is a UNESCO World Heritage Site now as on 8 July 2008, UNESCO added the Kalka-Shimla railway to the mountain railways of India World Heritage Site.
We booked ((Train No. and Train Name)) from IRCTC Website but you can do it on the kalka railway station also. The Kalka Shimla toy train bookings open only one month in advance and it's preferable to book early(prebook from IRCTC App or website) as the seats are normally limited.
The Kalka Shimla toy train route is a narrow gauge of about 96 km long having 103 tunnels(initially) but one of them no longer exists.So, our toy train crossed through 102 tunnels, 969 bridges and taking around 912 curves with a new view, a new moment and a new experience at each turn.
The longest tunnel of Barog (1143.61 m) will take around 3-4 minutes to reach the other end. The railway was built under the direction of Herbert Septimus Harington between 1898 and 1903 to connect Shimla, the summer capital of India during the British Raj, with the rest of the Indian rail system.
The entire trip was full of mesmerizing views and the beautiful picturesque landscapes were full of mountains, pine covered hill tops, tress, flowers, mini waterfalls, tunnels, small villages and beautiful railway stations. These grand views of pines, flora, fauna, waterfall and mountains does justice to Shimla's nickname as the “Queen of Hills”.
If you come during the winter months you will be greeted with majestic snow along the path.
I simply can't express the complete experience in words. Its was a breathtaking, thrilling and wonderful journey throughout the route.You have to experience it yourself.
This Kalka Shimla Toy Train Journey was just one of the best train journey as we passed through the lush green landscapes, dense pine and deodar forests.
The main railway stations along the Kalka Shimla toy train journey are
Kalka, Takshal, Gumman, Koti, Sonwara, Dharampur Himachal, Kumarhatti Dagshai, Barog, Solan, Salogra, Kandaghat, Kanoh, Kathleeghat, Shoghi, Taradevi, Jutogh, Summer Hill and finally Shimla Railway Station.

Apka shimla aur manali me kitna kharcha hua one person

For one person its around 40k .... par kharcha kaam bhi kar sakte hai.. like when you choose hotels. We hired a taxi from Shimla to Manali but you can also opt for bus service from Shimla to Manali... we spent 2 nights in Shimla and 4 nights in Manali

You can book online from Makemytrip app or IRCTC app. Staring station will be Kalka and destination station will be Shimla. Select the date and search , there will be different toy trains in different times.
