    Just a tip: If you are not in a hurry you can cut the Aloe Vera and just hang it somewhere to let it drip over night. Then you can peel it and cut it to use it in the recipe.
    Great recipe, I shall try it sometime.

    in where i live, they dice the aloe vera and use it as a topping instead of blending it. that fresh crunch from the aloe vera is really good!

    I've been a fan of aloe vera juice for more than 30 years. Besides drinking it I use it for burns (nothing takes that heat away faster) to help heal my cuts, to sooth my aching knees, as a facial and to speed the fading of bruises. Wow, it sounds like I live a very active life, ha! Thanks for this recipe, it is making my mouth water!

    I'm from Puerto Rico and my grandmas used to make cold remedies using aloe, honey, lemon and a bit of white rum -i think the rum was just for their enjoyment, if you know what I mean ;D- but they were delicious and helped the colds go away faster.

    Why not? Agave Americana and Aloe Vera are both grown in (but not exclusively) in Mexico. At least on in the states, both are seen as "Mexican" plants.
    Agave Syrup/Nectar is a vegan alternative to honey. They're both essentially just sweet sugar syrups.

    yes, use raw honey or even stevia. the flavor will be slightly different, but it's better than drinking that agave nectar, especially if you are sensitive to fructose.

    i always knew aloe was good for your skin, we used to have one and would break off the leaves (or whatever) and rub it on sunburns; worked like a charm.

  • @PanicHotel
    @PanicHotel 11 років тому

    I'm sure you could! Agave has a low GI and is 'sugar-free' so is great for diabetics etc. but honey would work nicely. :)

    Aloe vera is simple to grow - it doesn't like much water, but it's pretty hardy!
    Also, you can get giant slabs of the stuff in asian supermarkets. :)

    Sugar? Honey? The Agave Nectar is just a way to sweeten it. It doesn't add much of a flavor of its own (other than sweet). I like agave because it behaves similar to honey that dissolves at a lower temperature than honey or crystal sugar, but any sweetener could work.

    As much as I would love to see wonderful food from the Philippines on Tastemade, I feel that the usual suggestions don't fit in with the 'Thirsty For...' series because they're not drinks. Halo-halo is more a shaved ice dessert. I'd love to see sago't gulaman though.
    But if Tastemade had a show on desserts, these suggestions definitely should be on there! :)
