WHERE AAX PLUGINS ARE INSTALLED | PRO TOOLS, MEDIA COMPOSER, AND FIRST
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 чер 2018
- Where are your AAX plugins located? This video will show you. The AAX plugin location is the same for Pro Tools, Media Composer, Pro Tools | First, and Media Composer | First (as well as other programs that can use AAX plugins).
▶Windows: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Avid\Audio\Plug-Ins
▶Mac: Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Avid/Audio/Plug-Ins
Move plugins that are causing problems to the Unused folder, or move them to the Unused folder if you don't want them to load when you launch your program.
All AAX plugins will install to this directory by default, don't change it! This is the ONLY path that Pro Tools or Media Composer will recognize for audio plugins.

All I can is THANK YOU!!!! I have been looking for where they reside for a long time!
Finally The correct video I searched for, thanks mate!
20 hours later you come to me on a google search. You are a life saver!
My sentiments exactly. I’ve searched HIGH and Low for days for this much information.
I’m still trying to work it out though.
My ‘instrument’ and ‘other’ folder for plugs only give me an option to choose “Ableton Live (stereo)” and I’m aware that’s a completely diff Daw. I’m so stumped.
FINALLY!!!! Thank you 1000 times!!
Thanks a lot !! Really helpful man :)
Man, you saved my life! Thank you so much!!!!
Great tutorial
ME HAS SALVADO LA VIDA, GRACIAS AAAAAAAA
Thanks this was helpful
Thx man !!! I found my waves plugins !
YESS! Just what I needed!
Have you experienced opening a plugin (instrument or effect) that would appear white blank? and PT just hangs up? DO you know a fix on that?
Thank you so much !!
FINALLY. LEts see what happens. Thank you.
I have trouble with adding Keyscape to Protools 12. Where keyscape.dll should be? Or any other sugestion? Thankyou.
Does Waves Central works with pro tools 8? Or you gotta have a newer version?
Thanks bro 🙏🏾
How do I set up a default destination for aax plugins on a mac with pro tools ? In my plug in folder I have HAL, MAS, VST, VST3 and WPAPI but no aax. My AAX plugins that I use seem to be stored within my users folder under shared such as Soundtoys and Waves.
Do I create a plug ins folder and drag and drop them into the same place ?
Thanks.
Even after copy pasting them back to the plugin folder it isn't working, once you launch again it shows the same error, that they aren't aax 64 bit, though they are! To be honest I was using the HD cracked version before this on the same 64 bit operating system but they were working fine, but not now after switching to 2021.12 (the latest version)
Thank you so much.
still I cant find my plugins in pro tools
Did I ever find them
Thank you
its not working for me I need to much help my plug ins are not showing up Im trying to add wave 9 and auto tunes but not showing up please help
thank you so much
when i first downloaded the pro tools, there is an error AAE 9178, then i saw a remedy on google to uninstall the plug ins int the common files in the local disc.
how can i solve this? huhuhu
Which file format is updat Aax or vsti?
amazing. i'm switching from mac to PC & this helped sooooo much! all the other tutorials are using Mac.... really wish PT/Avid would get it together to do this add/remove plugin thing INSIDE pro tools tho!!! but whatever. thanks man
Is there a way, I can identify the default plugin location programatically ?
Thank you ..
None of my plugins are showing in pro tools I’ve tried copying them in these folders it still won’t show I’m using pro tools 2021.3 windows. Please tell me how to get them on the list
i was using pt 10, but now im upgrade my MACBOOK and i want to use the pt 12, what version is the best
for pro tools 12?
You can find the current requirements here avid.force.com/pkb/articles/compatibility/Pro-Tools-System-Requirements
but how do i get my plugins in pro tools like i know where they are located but how do i get them in there i have installed them and evrything and i still cant see them man
For some reason i'm missing both EQ 3 and Dynamics 3 even though AVID says they come with Pro Tools. I've tried reinstalling a few times and I see it extracting in the setup but it just hasn't worked. There's no external download on their website either and I really need these two plug ins for my work.
Did you find a fix?
Thanks
Question. if i want to use external drive for locate the plugins folder is that possible ?
No. The plugin path for Pro Tools/AAX plugins is HARD CODED in Pro Tools and Media Composer.
You can locate sample libraries on other drives though.
Hello Sir, just came up with your video and i have this quick question: you seem to have hundreds of those vst's and and aax's , are those by default upon installation or you purchased it eventually? i only have a few in my pro tools 12 and it didn't even appear in my inserts a-e breakdown list, am i missing something for sure, thanks anyways..
I have purchased hundreds of plugins in my over 10+ years of doing this. They are not all included with Pro Tools.
Thank you and stay safe,,
Hey i have pro tools first I wanted to open amplitube inside it or install the eleven mk2 but then the ilok license thing appears is there any way to get trough it ?
Pro Tools First cannot run other plugins unless you purchase them from within the Avid Marketplace. Honestly...you are better off using something else. Pro Tools First is fine for some simple editing or if you don't need other plugins. But if you want to use plugins you should subscribe to the full version of Pro Tools or checkout something like Studio One Artist which is cheap, or try Reaper.
@@BenoniStudio ooh ok that’s a problem I have pro tools first cause it came free with an m audio interface and I wanted a sort of bass amp and it only brought two wich are for guitar. But thanks for the help!!
how do we trigger pro tools to do a full rescan of all plugins? thx
Pro Tools re-scans every time you start it. But you can trash preferences to clear the cache list.
My new plug-ins I downloaded still does not show up in Pro Tools | first and i put them in the right folder etc ? Any suggestions ?
Pro Tools First only uses plugins that are downloaded from the Avid Marketplace.
BenoniStudio So does that mean I would have to buy the full Pro Tools right?
if you want to install plugins you purchase elsewhere, then yes.
Pro toolz cant find Waves plug ins
and i put the wave folder in the Pro toolz Plug in folder and its STILL unavailable
HELP
You don't need to put anything anywhere. Waves plugins will install into the correct folder automatically when you install through Waves Central.
BenoniStudio mine did the same it won’t appear
@@BenoniStudio frfr i got same rn cant find any waves plug ins installed normally but when opened get invalid aax file code or wtv for 1 plug in then it opens and none are there in general
can we delete all the avid plugins when we only use vst plugins
to save disk space because have two gig off avid plugin .
looking forward to reply appreciate your video
Warmly Johannes
Are you using Pro Tools? If so then you need the AAX versions. If you are not using Pro Tools then you can remove them.
so when i want to add plug ins do i drag them to this folder?
no. pretty much all AAX plugins will install in the proper folder, no need to drag anything. Unless the plugin doesn't have an installer, like from some small plugin companies, then yeah.
Any idea what to do with Kontakt 6.1.1, seems my PT 10.3.9 can't see it. I want to keep working with PT 10, to hell with 12 and its aax format.?
Sorry. Kontakt 6 is AAX, VST, or AU only. No RTAS. You'll have to stick with Kontakt 5 if you want to use it in PT10.
@@BenoniStudio Yes please, I need K5 where I can find one, once I finish my old compositions I will get out of PT forever.
can I put vst in that folder? Thanks
no. pro tools does NOT use VST, it only uses AAX.
so install mercury waves into this folder?
All plugins for Pro Tools will automatically install to the proper location. You don't need to manually do anything.
Hello please help my autotune can't appear in pro tools, any help?
Is it AAX 64 bit?
You’re a CAREER SAVER
When i open ProTools I get an error it tells me that the elastic audio plugin and the Isotope radius can't be loaded/ found. But I ended up finding it in my files folder in Pro Tools first system plugins folder path. Do I have to move them to where you showed us in the video ?
This happens sometimes. Just ignore the error and go into Pro Tools. The next time you start PT everything will probably be fine.
@@BenoniStudio its still saying that elastic audio cannot be loaded
@@BenoniStudio Is there a way I can send you pictures?
Hi how are you? I have a problem: I just downloaded PRO TOOLS FIRST, and I'm a first timer with this DAW. And I'm having serious issues trying to setting up EZ DRUMMER, EZ MIX 2 and GUITAR RIG 5 in Pro Tools (which are the vst plugins that I need to start recording). How do I set up Ez Drummer and more?? I'm about to kick everything... I hate installing software :/ could you PLEASE HELP MEEE!!!
Pro Tools First cannot use third-party plugins. You can only buy additional plugins from the Avid marketplace (at extremely high prices) I only recommend PT | First for people who need very basic recording features. If you need to use additional plugins you should upgrade to the full version of Pro Tools, or another full featured DAW. You can download a trial for the full version of Pro Tools to check it out. You could also try Reaper which is pretty cheap.
@@BenoniStudio so bottom line... PT First SUCK? haha. I've been using Fl Studio 12 for 3 years now, and it can handle VST plugins (I use Native Instruments Guitar Rig 5, and Toontrack EZ Mix 2 & EZ Drummer 2). Starting to regret trying to upgrade the DAW just because I bought the Focusrite Solo soundcard :/ I might use PT for "mastering" (I really like the compressor it has)...
I have a problem, after complete the installation of plugins from Waves, when I opened my DAW (pro tools), the plugins are not there, not even one, how can I fix it to appear in Pro tools?
What version of Pro Tools? What version of Waves plugins?
@@BenoniStudio Pro Tools 12 and Waves V10
First Trash Preferences for Pro Tools. If that doesn't work you'll have to uninstall from Waves Central and then reinstall from Waves Central.
Any idea why Pro Tools 12.7 won't load Auto Tune Pro?
I just spent $399 on this and despite being the AAX version of Auto Tune
it gives me an error that says "the following plugins failed to load because
they are not valid 64 bit .aax plugins) then lists the 5 different plugins the
software comes with.
1. Download/Install/Registration went perfectly fine
I was able to get my Diamond Waves bundle plugins working perfectly fine
after purchasing those a couple days ago and those have way more files than
AutoTune does so I have no clue what's wrong.
Someone please help? 😥
Trash your preferences, restart computer, open Pro Tools. Should work.
@@BenoniStudio For some reason ever since I dragged the installedaaxplugins file from Pro Tools to my desktop to do that a week ago with Waves now it's no longer there in the folder i.e. it hasn't refreshed or made a new one. so now i don't find the file to trash lol.. seemed to get it working tho some how even tho it's not in the plugin folder (no idea how)... but i can't get it working in FL now where as before it was working in FL but not PT lmao
If I have a pro tools first is there any free autotune/pitch corrector I could download and install?
mautopitch chief
RichSkurr I downloaded it and tried to set it up but it's not showing up for me. What do I do?
Pro Tools First cannot use third-party plugins unless you buy them through the Avid Marketplace.
My Plug-ins aren’t listed in Pro Tools but they are in the correct folder(local disk-program files-common files-Avid-audio-plugins). How do I go about fixing this? Thank you
What version of Pro Tools exactly?
BenoniStudio It’s Pro Tools First and then it says 2019.6 Win
Pro Tools First cannot use additional plugins unless you purchase them through the Avid Marketplace. That's why you can't see them.
BenoniStudio ooohh ok. Thank you for replying!
why is my plug in folder empty?
I don't know. What Avid product did you install? And did you install any other AAX plugins? Note that NO Avid product uses VST plugins, they must be AAX.
do waves 10 plugins work with pro tools 10?
ummm.... no. Version 10 doesn't have RTAS versions or AAX32 versions. You would have to use versions 9.6 for Pro Tools 10.
Fine, professional clarification, as always from this author.
What I found astonishing was, I noticed FL studio as a plugin to ProTools. Astonishing, because FL studio requires installation of ASIO4ALL, which is troublesome to ProTools.
I once was tempted to install FL studio on the same PC where I had my ProTools, after 5hat installation neither ProTools nor Cakewalk would work, and I had to reset my PC to the status before FL studio. So I am curious how this constellation is possible, and working.
Not sure what version of FL you tried, but for awhile ow FL has shipped with the FL Studio ASIO driver which is probably the best ASIO driver ever. You can even use it with Pro Tools. I'll have a video about that at the end of this month. I'll see if I can do something with showing how to Rewire FL into PT if I can find time.
BenoniStudio thanks for your reply,
I was trying with version 12.5 or so. It would be a pity if they had removed their native driver.
can I have autotune in 2 different daws?
Sure.
Not a helpful video at all. My plug ins show up in the Avid plug in folder but they don't show up on the mixer or arrange screen in Pro Tools. I have no idea how to get them to be recognized in Pro Tools. I have been a Cubase user for years and I have the demo version of Pro Tools. My Superior Drummer 3 does not show up in Pro Tools folder, nor do my Waves, or UAD plug ins. There is no scan for plug ins like Cubase's Plug in manager. This does not seem to be a very inutitive program like Samplitude and other DAW's I have used. Mackie Controller does not work even though I acitaved it and setup up
Protools... Good solid software! why can't it just be simple as say Cubase, Studio 1 etc...It's time they update this primitive system! So many steps to do simple things...
It still doesn't work ;(((((( I don't like this software
You're Christopher Walken impression is too fast
People complaining about Studio One should try this Pro Tools First unuseful piece of shit
The full version of Pro Tools works great, but Pro Tools First is pretty unusable IMO.
@@BenoniStudio agree
omg fkn get to the point!
YES WE KNOW HOW TO FIND AFKN FOLDER! and we know how to operate windows omg! OMG !
Could not have been more confusing.
Didn't learn a single thing from your video.
Too much jumping around, too much feels skipped.
Just another of a ton of videos I've perused which served no helpful purpose, whatsoever.
Benonistudio, is there any advantage to moving the plugin file in pro tools to a ssd external drive. faster or slower daw response?
You can't move the files anywhere else. Pro Tools will only look in the default location for plugins, which is on your OS drive. If you want to upgrade your OS drive, then yes, SSD makes a big difference.
If you are talking about sample libraries, they can be on any drive (usually) and they will load faster if using an SSD.
