Hi, thanks for the question. Where the cavity meets the top of the wall it is necessary to close it. Normally this can be done with a fire proof board (calcium silicate) laid over the top of each leaf or by using proprietary closer. In addition, there should be cavity closers at each floor level of the building is more than one storey high. A lot depends on the local building regulations or codes so make sure you check. Cheers.
