Fun fact: Harry's family lives in Surrey, and then Fudge says that his aunt was spotted flying outside of Sheffield. That is a distance of 180 miles and his aunt literally flew halfway across England!
Seeing time was *Rewinding* and it looked like they were wrapping that person up, when time flows normally, they were *Unwrapping* that person. Boom! Scene.
Ok do if we assume that what happened there (from Harry leaving the house to arriving in London) took about 1 hour it would mean that the aunt's speed must've been something around 288km/h lol
Lupin is legit my favorite character and David Thewlis was so good at bringing him to life. I love Sirius, but Lupin is definitely more a father figure because he can see Harry for who Harry is and not just a mini James. Such a great character.
Remus Lupin, Sirius Black, Peter Pettigrew, and James Potter were best friends, and their group was called the Marauders. They created the map that Harry used in this movie. Remus became a Werewolf after being bitten by one, and his friends hid in the crazy tree every month to help Remus through his wolf phase.
Building on that... Lupin = Moony, Black = Padfoot, Pettigrew = Wormtail, and Potter = Prongs (as his animagus form was a stag, which is why that's Harry's Patronus form)
Slight correction: they let Remus be in the Shrieking Shack (or whatever its called) during full moons, which is the reason people believe it to be haunted as Remus would make a lot of noise in his werewolf form.
"What did he think of? Maybe them living together?" That is EXACTLY what he was thinking of, he'd known Sirius for such a short time, but already bonded with him to such extent and it made him so happy.
Actually no Im pretty sure in the book it is explained that he realizes he was the one to create the Patronus and that gave him enough happiness and pride to actually do it
*Fun fact:* Azkaban was originally a home of a dark wizard who experimented with dark magic in the tower, creating dementors. After the wizard died, the tower became abandoned, and later the Ministry of Magic found it, with the dementors of course. Since the dementors could be only scared away but not destroyed, the Ministry later decided to use the tower as a prison, and the dementors as wardens. The dementors basically suck all the goodness around them out with cold following it. Azkaban is full of them, so you could imagine how horrible life there is. 😕
" I wish they wouldn't bully the Boggart" 5 minutes later " They should just kill Malfoy..." This wonderful reactor has some range and I'm here for all of it! Keep up the great work.
The best Harry Potter film, no question. Alfonso Cuaron's direction is absolutely unmatched, the performances from the leads are much better than the first two films, and John Williams' score (sadly his last for the series) is just phenomenal - 'Window to the Past' is one of my favourite tracks of his
I didn't love any of the HP films, but this was probably the best tonally, before it went all art-house and weird. Still can't forgive it for leaving out the Marauders' plotline though. They gave themselves so much work to do by leaving that out.
Fun Fact: Tom Riddle (Voldemort) applied for the post as professor for defense against the dark arts some time after he finished at Hogwarts. When he was denied by Dumbledore, he got angry and put a curse on Hogwarts. That is the reason why after that Hogwarts was never able to hold a defense against the dark arts professor for more than one year.
for real, from this point on it gets more serious and takes a whole new turn especially with the next one, can't wait for her to react to the goblet of fire
More like they finally got a director that did Harry Potter right. The first two movies were way too whimsical in tone. This here is probably the only one of the entire movie franchise that catches the tone of the books for me.
@@Wurzelknecht and the fact that Columbus directed almost exact copies of the first two books is irrelevant, then? The later books got darker, yes, but that doesn't mean the first two were poorly directed.
I always felt the true shift happened in The Goblet Of Fire, during the last 10 minutes where Cedric is killed, and Voldemort returns. This movie is for sure the first truly scary Harry Potter movie (altough I'd argue that *all* movies have their fair share of horror; especially the first one lol).
JK Rowling is not a particularly technically skilled author when you come right down to it. All you need to do is look at the other things that she's written to realize that. She's not awful or anything, but she's not the person who you'd pick to be the first billionaire author. The first person to make a billion dollars based on books, rather than writing something after being a billionaire , that is. What she did exceptionally well, though, is write for her audience and then grow the books with the maturity of that audience. Every book deals with increasingly more mature themes. Another author who did this but didn't have nearly as much success is Katherine Applegate her Animorphs series. By the end of that series there's a full-on guerrilla war and explores themes of genocide and war crimes and severe trauma
Chocolate is actually the antidote against the dementors, since dementors make you feel like depression does. When Harry goes to the infirmary after being attacked, madame pomfrey gives him chocolate too in the books :)
irl, chocolate is a quick fix to gain energy. Since Dementors suck your soul and make you faint, chocolate replenishes your energy. That's why campers/hikers usually have chocolates as rations for energy snack.
@@soulscyther666 Tbh, I thought fainting was caused by your blood sugar levels dropping or something. Then the chocolate would sorta help it go back up. Or maybe it's low blood pressure that causes you to faint.
Fun fact about that final scene of the movie with Harry receiving and riding off on the Firebolt, I actually own one of the actor's scripts from that particular scene. A friend of the family was married to one of the on-set caretakers for the kids and when she heard how big a fan I was of the franchise she got the main trio to sign one of the scripts as well as a butt-load of professional headshots and even exclusive staff merch for me. I was 15 at the time and receiving that package when I had no idea about its existence was incredible.
There’s a reason for the Hippogriff ride being an uplifting moment on a colorless background. The whole movie is about the slightest hint of happiness and joy to be found amidst the horrors and cruelty of life. Harry’s entire life has been filled with pain and suffering and he can be one of the happiest people sometimes because of brief moments like that. Very good storytelling and writing on the director, Cuarons’s part.
It's also particularly difficult because a Dementor actually radiates an aura of hopelessness. They drain "good mood" vibes around them. So imagine that for a second. Hundreds and even thousands of them just hanging around one building and guarding it. The more Dementors that are present the greater their environmental impact as well. No one's ever escaped from Azkaban because they don't "feel" the desire to. The Dementors drain all the hope away until there isn't even desperate will power or even a fleeting thought.
@@furkanefezerenuz7445 yes this is depicted in the books more specifically than the movies. It's the reason WHY Hagrid looks FREAKED OUT in chamber of Secrets when Fudge wants to rake him to Azkaban and why he's so utterly thankful to be out at the end that he makes a point to thank harry and Ron. also it's the reason Sirius LOOKS so manic and why he's on the verge of losing his shit when he yells "I DID MY WAITING!!" Ans finally Ron says it right after the Dementors are introduces and Harry asks if either of them passed out. "No; but I felt weird though. Like I'd never be cheerful again." Dementors radiate despair and hopelessness and feed on happy pleasant memories and feelings.
And Sirius was only able to keep his sanity all those years and escape by turning into a dog, as the dementors couldn’t affect dogs like they could humans
Cinematically, this is a masterpiece. Alfonso Cuaron is an outstanding director and a true artist. The only nitpicks that I have are that Dumbledore being stupid and hitting Ron’s broken leg, or when Harry literally using Lumos spell outside of school. Also Gary Oldman is always a win!
This is my favorite Harry Potter film. One of the more interesting aspects is that director Alfonso Cuaron didn't take this job seriously when he was first hired. He didn't think much of Harry Potter, and had never read the books or seen the previous movies. Guillermo del Toro - one of his friends and director of Pan's Labyrinth, The Shape of Water, etc. - called him an "arrogant bastard" and told him to read the books _immediately._ It's thanks to that lesson in humility that Cuaron learned what an opportunity he had, and how amazing the source material could be. The result is arguably the best film the series.
I was a bit confused about Lupin's association with Black, but I caught it this time that it's when he realizes Peter is alive, he knows that Sirius is innocent, hence him helping Sirius. Definitely my favorite of the series, story-wise, and overall production and direction. The direction in this is a notable step above every other movie, and a lot of the others were really directed well, this is just a masterpiece.
The four of them called themselves the Marauders and they created that map… Moody is Lupin, Padfoot is Black, Wormtail is Pettigree and Prongs is James Potter, they were best friends during their time at Hogwarts
@@andrewft31 One of my friends went into detail about the whole Sirius Black/Peter Petigrew confusion, you know, more than the misconception that Black killed Petigrew, but I don't remember. But there was a whole back story as to why people assumed it was Black, and it had to do with some secret about where Harry's parents were hiding. Something like people thought only Black knew, so when they were found, everyone was like "well, it had to be him, he was the only one that could have". Do you remember what I'm talking about? I feel like it wouldn't be a spoiler now, since it's been revealed who really betrayed his parents.... I just remember the first time watching this and wondering why everyone wouldn't listen to Sirius, and it had to do with circumstance. If you know what I'm talking about, would you mind refreshing my memory? I think it's good information that the movies didn't really get into. I just remember hearing the explanation and being like "a-ha! that explains why no one trusted Sirius." Thanks!
@@sydhamelin1265 Harry's parents were hiding from Voldemort using a Fidelius charm, which hides a secret in a secret-keeper's soul. That meant they were concelead by magic in a way that Voldy literally couldn't get to them unless the person serving as secret-keeper revealed it. Everyone knew how close Sirius and Harry's dad were (Sirius had even lived with the Potters after he ran away from his family home during his final school years) so naturally everyone assumed Sirius would be the secret-keeper for James and Lily's location. As it turned out they had made Pettigrew the secret-keeper instead as a way to not be too obvious, but that clearly backfired. When the Potters got killed, Sirius realized Pettigrew had betrayed them so he went after him. Pettigrew then, in an attempt to escape and blame Sirius for everything while at it, blew up a street full of muggles (killed like 12 people with that), cut off his own finger to make it look like he got blown up to pieces and that Sirius was the one who did it (as he was the only other wizard there), then transformed into a rat and lived hidden in Ron's family for all those years. Easy for everyone to think bad of Sirius, even Remus, because the way the Fidelius charm works is you LITERALLY cannot find something hidden by it, even if you're standing right in front of it, unless the secret-keeper reveals it and people didn't know Peter was said secret-keeper (not to mention dude faked his own death so who'd suspect him). lol When Harry told Lupin he saw Peter alive on the map, Remus must've been like "that son of a bitch"
One of the big changes starting with this movie are the outdoor settings. The characters now have to go down and up the large hill to get to and from Hagrid's hut. The hut itself has also changed from a studio set to what looks to be a location set or else a much more detailed set.
Yes, my daughter literally grew up w/ this series as well. And when she graduated high school, she played in the school orchestra the harry potter theme.. literally w/ tears going down her face.
I wish i could post her school orchestra, but multiple times they not only flagged but threatened me w/ lawsuit for posting my high school orchestra rendition of the harry potter school finale.
@THEvagabond29 UMG, unfortunately, is pretty ruthless. I seriously doubt a lawsuit would go through since that is well within fair use, and you're not benefiting financially from the music. Unfortunately, that's not enough to keep it from getting taken down 😕
@@sean_mccadden But its such a treasure to watch. She gets half way to the piece and she is crying but keeping up playing in composure, never skipping a beat until the end. And everyone gathers and comforts her at the end, she said to me herself "THE SHOW MUST GOT ON, I PLAYED TO THE END LIKE THEATRE". I was so proud of her, myself crying in the end reception... why block that vid w/ 100K lawsuit? Its in my personal collection to watch and listen to in my car.
Harry's father was also an animagus (he could turn into a male deer), so this is why Harry later believed that he was his father, but it's quite confusing if someone only sees the movie. I think creators could have taken the time to explain that why SIrius, James and Peter became animagicians and why Snape hates them. 😆
In the last film they tell why Snape hates them and if that would be told earlier I think it would remove a bit of Snape's character and the surprise at the end
Hermione's face looking at Harry at 25:54 breaks my heart. You can really feel her sorrow for Harry in that moment, as she can recognize how much he _wants_ the savior to have been his father whom he's never met and has only just recently come face to face with the coward who got his parents killed. To Hermione he must sound like a babbling kid waking up from a nightmare convinced his dead parents are still alive, and she has no idea how to comfort him in the moment.
There’s a very good reason this movie feels very different in style and tone (aside from the fact that the books get more mature as the characters get older.) The first 2 films were directed by Chris Columbus (who directed films like Adventures in Babysitting, Home Alone and Home Alone 2, Mrs. Doubtfire, and Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief) while the 3rd film was directed by Alfonso Cuarón (who directed A Little Princess, Y Tu Mama Tambien, Children of Men, Gravity, and Roma). Also, you really should read the books - they are SOOOOOO much better than the movies!
I think the books and the films are at the same level, sometimes the movie is better, sometimes the book is better, for example in the order of the phoenix the film is better while in the halfblood prince the book is better
and as gadrid say - The first thing you have to know about hippogriffs is that they are proud. They get upset very easily. Never offend anyone, because it could be the last thing you do.
After watching all these reactions i realised i was the only one who never doubted harry's decision to knock out severus.. Sirius and Remus were just about to tell something.. then I later read the books.. there all the 3 Hermione, Ron and harry did the disarming charm on snape together... the force of 3 charms together knocked him out...
Funfact: The reason Chocolate is brought up often is because Cocoa has a mood enhancing effect that makes us happier. Obviously it's not strong enough to cure depression but it's a convenient snack if you have a literal happiness sucking monster attack you.
This was the first Harry Potter film that interested me. I never got into the books, being that I was older when they came out. I caught this one off a burned DVD in Iraq after it came out due to me being deployed. While I didn't go back and read the books, I ended up watching all the others because of this one. Alan Rickman was amazing in this. His portrayal of Snape was damn incredible.
@@LA_HA well take the longest book at the time and make the shortest movie, I'm Fairly sure book 7 had not been writen by the time this movie started production and by now anything Harry Potter was going to make bank the different director for this one was just interested in visual and they definitely got that. There are 2 sides of the Harry Potter world the actual story and then the movies, I feel the story is much better i just don't have the attention span to read so i understand why the moviesdo what they do, comic book movies do the same thing they don't go by the source material, ask anyone that has just seen the movies who peeves the poltergeist is
The book goes into great detail about the shrieking shack and it’s purpose which I really wish they had filmed and put back in for the extended edition.
This was always my favorite of the films. I really wish they could have had this director come back and do more films. I think he could have done a great job with the last two movies.
Man, it's always so touching watching that scene where Harry realizes he has to do the Patronus himself, and runs up and does it. He's literally just a kid, and Daniel Radcliffe was just a kid when he filmed this, so it looks very convincing, the thought of an orphan having literally no one in the world to protect his life except himself. The fact that he has to go from anticipating his dad to conjuring up some powerful positive memory in a matter of seconds, to literally save his own life. That part always gets me. It's my favorite part in my favorite film of the whole Harry Potter series of films.
The first two films were directed by Chris Columbus (He also did the first two Home Alone films) Prisoner of Azkaban was directed by Alfonso Cuarón (He also did Children of Man and Gravity) Alfonso changed everything about the visual style of the films. I don't know if you noticed, but there was a new actor for Dumbledore. (The first one, Richard Harris, died shortly after filming the second film)
There's so many things that I missed when watching this movie for the first time. But especially after reading the book theres so many awesome details they leave out in the movies that give a lot of things more explanation. Like the purpose of the shrieking shack, or the map and who moony, wormtail, padfoot and prongs were and their relationship to Severus.
Harry Potter... Buffy the Vampire Slayer... and... Avatar the Last Airbender -- all 3 of these things start out as shows for children or young teens and grow into something much greater. Generations of kids have grown up with these characters. All 3 of these are things that you can start watching as a child, and grow up along with the characters, and then you can rewatch the shows as an adult with a completely different perspective and appreciation.
I saw this film in theaters when it was first released and have seen it many times since. It's still my favorite Harry Potter film. It really stands out and the plot twists at the end are fantastic. It is the only film in which Voldemort does not appear directly and which largely stands on its own in terms of story, as it does not build so much on the plot of its predecessors. Also, the time travel aspect gives the film a great deal of depth.
did you notice the new Dumbledore? Richard Harris played him for the first 2 films then died in 2002 shortly after Chamber of Secrets was finished so he was recast with Michael Gambon playing the role for the rest of the series.
This is my favorite Harry Potter movie, one time when I was a kid I literally played it over and over for a whole day because I love it so much. I wish the director had directed more movies in the series.
I love watching reactions of the scene in the shrieking shack. It's always so chaotic the amount of twists and new information. I love to see if reactors catch everything, or if they're just confused lol
As a Potterhead i should be annoyed that one of the few creatures in this series has been called "Chicken Wings"......but VKunia made it sound so adorable!! I'll let this one slide!
Technically as far as movie goes VKunia ain't wrong. The artist Val Jones used chicken and goose feathers to sculpt Buckbeak. Still the head reminds me of a harpy eagle., the one predatory bird that always seems ideal inspiration for a griffon in general.
Fun fact: Azkaban was the fortress of an evil wizard named Ekrizdis who tortured Muggles on the site. The dementors grew out of all their collective misery, and when the Ministry of Magic saw the site’s potential, they decided to convert it into a prison for the worst offenders.
This is one of my favourite movies and what I consider to the best film of the franchise along with Order of The Phoenix. The cinematography and score are amazing , the characters, the plot and even the make up and set design everything is perfect. There’s 4 moments which are some of my favourites of the series. The first is when Harry can’t go to Hogsmede and the camera pans out and it shows Harry standing alone something he fears and which is quite present throughout the series. The second is his his conversation with Lupin on the bridge and in the forest. And who could forget Harry’s EXPECTO PATRONUM! and then Sirus’ last scene in the film when he tells his Godson that he can always find his parents and the ones he loved in his heart. They’re just amazing moments I think also what makes it really good is the fact that it’s the only Harry Potter film where Voldemort isn’t physically present, no one dies, Harry truly learns more about his parents and talks to Lupin and Sirus who really knew them. Plus he meets his Godfather and knows the truth that he’s innocent
The letter Harry asks Uncle Vernon to sign in the beginning is his permission slip to visit Hogsmeade. I'm pretty sure if i remember correctly was if Harry listened and did what Uncle Vernon requested, then he'd sign the slip for Harry. Also, in the book, Harry was at The Leaky Cauldron for a couple weeks before term started, so he was able to visit Diagon Alley and kind of enjoy more of the Wizarding World
This has always been my favorite of the entire series. They were still young enough to really be discovering this world (So that's what i look like from the back?"), yet the bigger darker world was starting to change them. Fantastic film (PS my 22 yo old daughter sat in with me for the very first time for this one.)
The reason no one can last more than one year in Defense Against the Dark Arts is Voldemort wanted the position. When he was rejected, Voldemort cursed the position. It gets explained in the books. I really like Lupin Great reaction.
Going through the first four books when they were still the only ones published, this one was my favorite and has remained to this day. Also my favorite of the movies. I eagerly anticipated the release, and the change in filming style and tone did the book a lot of justice.
Cuaron did right leaving Harry Potter after the 3rd movie. Usually when you see a small budget director going from small budget to big budget, he usually wants to stay in the big budget territory, sometimes making sequels or similar movies. Cuaron avoided that, and instead used his experience on big budget movies to explore other genres and try different things. I love a director that explores different genres. Is usually what leads to a lasting career.
@@JamailvanWestering yeah completely agree about The Hobbit films I can't watch them they are boring and pointless. I love reading The Hobbit and LOTR of course along with Peter Jacksons films of LOTR.
I might have liked these movies more if Cuaron directed more, or rather, at _all_ outside of this one. While there are some directors whose work suffers from having more budget than what their creative ambition can muster with it like the Wachowskis, some like Taika Waititi or Edgar Wright know what to spend money on without making the story suffer.
Vicky's ongoing defense of Snape continues to baffle and amuse me. I'm curious to see where it goes, and how long it lasts . . . Great reaction, as always! 💕
tbf if you just watch the movies and haven't read the books he's a lot less of an asshole... I mean he still is one, but we have additional context. Agreed though, interested to see where it goes.
THIS IS MY FAVORITE! Not because is made by someone from my country (Alfonso Cuaron), but because it is the one that started the true look and feel of the potter movies. My favorite book also.
Remus Lupin is leaps and bounds the BEST Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts over the other 2 movies before this one! Percy and George are literally life savers for giving Maurader's Map to Harry. They are such amazing characters!!! Dumbledore is doing everything he can to distract Minister Fudge and give Hermione enough time to get Buckbeak out of the area. Then he tries to convince him that Buckbeak could have flown anywhere far away, so he forgets about everything and Buckbeak lives.
I love that you can notice small details and hints when rewatching this movie to the time travel. Example when they first meet Buckbeak you can see Hermione’s time turner around her neck
I wish they had talked more about Nevil's life. One of Voldemort's followers used one of the Unforgivable Curses to torture the parents to madness, they are in a hospital until the end of the story without remembering who the son is. that's why he is raised by his grandmother. and he always goes to visit them on vacation and they don't know who he is. I feel sorry for him. Harry wasn't the only one to lose his parents that day. And the producers didn't care about the boy's story.
In the books, Harry had mix feelings when learning to do the patronus charm, he wanted to scare away the dementors, but he also wanted to keep hearing the voice of his parents.
This is my favorite Harry Potter movie/book because this is like the last time they're kids, I mean they're still kids but it gets darker as it continues. The books I've learned explain more but even J.K Rowling said "If we included everything from the books we'd have 12 hour long movies." I watched the movies before ever reading the books, I feel like I grew up with the actors which I pretty much did, I was 6 yrs old when the first movie came out.
The films reflect the books very well. Each book becomes progressively darker as the battle between good vs evil comes to the forefront. Additionally, each book becomes more mature as each one relates to the aging of the characters from children to pre-teen to teenagers and then to young adults.
*VKunia:* "He's very Ungrateful that you're here" *Me:* "Considering she let her dog, Ripper, chase him up a tree, and didn't call him off until after Freaking Midnight?!? I don't blame him"
Hedwig was not in the house when Harry ran away. Off camera, Ron had sent the family owl, Errol, to deliver Harry a birthday gift, and Errol had been helped by Hedwig and a Hogwart's school owl, but was still exhausted and rested in Hedwig's cage for a while. Harry sent Hedwig to help Errol get home, and to appease Vernon, asked her to stay at The Burrow with Ron for a few days so Vernon's sister would not know he had such a strange pet. Apparently Ron and Hermione both traveled to the Leaky Cauldron early, and since Harry told Hedwig to "stay with Ron", she traveled with Ron when he left The Burrow and was there when Harry arrived.
I'm excited to see this. This is a movie about young teens. Alfonso Cuarón directed this one. Few filmmakers direct realistic teenagers as well as Cuarón. The whole Harry Potter story grows up here. Looking forward to your take. Here we go! :)
They give chocolate to little wizards and witches when they're sick or frightened because that's what we give to children when they are injured or frightened. At the doctor's office, for instance, after they get a shot the doctor gives them a sweet. Or if they fall and get a bruise, mom gives them a sweet. Children understand the relationship between injury/fear and chocolate, and Rowling knew this.
"We should kill Malfoy instead." "Buckbeak is so sweet, I love that chicken horse." These are some of my favorite things anyone has ever said, you're so unintentionally funny
The reason "The Fat Lady" knew about Black being there is because she is the one who guards the door to the Gryffindor common room so he attacked her in an attempt to get into the room.
This is the first movie where the book to movie translation misses a lot of points that they kinda refer to or hint to without explaining. But this is still my favorite of the entire movie series. Those dementers tho....
18:12 hermione punch draco was actually out of script. In fact, on the script was hermione slap draco. That moment, emma watson have a huge crash with tom felton and tom felton wasn't care hurt emma watson. Yes this is personal issue. That's why the scene so natural.
So funny story. The first time I ever read/saw Harry Potter was actually the 3rd book, and I only read it because I was grounded, lol. Don't know why we had the book, but yeah, I fell in love with the 3rd book and became a fan of the books and then the movies when they were released
Here's the thing about the chocolate that Remus always gives to Harry after the Dementors attack him. The Dementors rob a person of all their good feelings, leaving them feeling hopeless, which is how depression works. Chocolate, especially dark chocolate has a chemical in it that produces endorphins that make you feel good. That's why every time the Dementors tried to attack Harry, Lupin would tell Harry to eat some chocolate.
So, one thing they don’t do a great job at explaining in this film, is that Lupin, Sirius, James, and Peter were the ones that MADE the Map back when they were in school. It’s hinted at in the film with Lupin knowing the map and implying Sirius Black would as well, but it’s outright stated in the book. Moony - Remus Lupin (the Werewolf) Wormtail - Peter Pettigrew (Rat Animagi) Padfoot - Sirius Black (Dog Animagi) Prongs - James Potter (James was also an animagi, and could become a Stag, which is why Harry’s Patronus has the form of a Stag)
Yeah, I never understood why they couldn’t have taken an extra 5-10 minutes to explain all that. It not only helps with understanding this movie & those characters better, it also applies to future films as well. A small price to pay for 5 extra minutes of screen time.
@@susanmaggiora4800 Not even 5 minutes. All they needed was one line of dialogue each from Lupin and Sirius in the Shrieking Shack. Right after Sirius say “The Map Never Lies” he could have said “isn’t that right, Mr. Moony?” And have Lupin respond “That is correct, Mr. Padfoot.” Like, they didn’t need an exposition dump, just a solid Wham line like that to connect the dots.
Hippogriffs are pretty much Gryphons with the lion traits replaced with horse traits. Hippo is greek for horse, potamos greek for river or stream, so hippopotamus basically means Riverhorse.
Prisoner of Azkaban is by far the most memorable book to me, one of my closest childhood friends and I were reading the book and constantly talking about it, good times :) I would've wished for the movie to get deeper into the relationships of the marauders and harrys father to Lupin tho
As an adult this is where I start when I am rewatching the series. This movie is actually a tour de force from Cuaron, it's insanely rewatchable. I know book fans have huge issues with the script choices made, but all I can say is that as a movie this is for my money the best in the series. I think the actor playing Dudley had gone through a growth spurt and was skinny as a rail so they had to put him in a fat suit which is why he looks off in the dinner scene.
Fun fact: in the credits to this movie as it pans across the marauders map following the footprints you can see 2 people having in the bottom left of the screen at 2:19:53
I got that vibe sort of too. That Lupin may have been in love with Lily, but James made his move first and Lupin respected and loved them both enough, to not interfere.
the effect of aunt petunia blowing up into a balloon was actually mostly done with practical effects!! corridor crew has a really cool video about how they did it
Funny how parents know which babies will get bitten by werewolves and give them wolf related first names like Fenrir and Remus. (Also funny that werewolves target people who have wolf last names like Lupin and Grayback)
That's just JK Rowling proving how uncreative she is. The bad kid is name Malfoy, the cranky teacher is Moody, the kid who gets picked on is Longbottom...
@@FreakDaMIghet i have enough gripes about JK Rowling, but "uncreative" is a stretch for sure. Yeah, she borrowed heavily from other fantasy series and mythological stories, but at the end of the day she wrote books for CHILDREN. Can we all just calm down now lol
@@FreakDaMIghet I understand the hatred towards JK. Call her all the evil names available. But "uncreative" will never be in a pool of words to describe her 😂
lupine means wolf and his name is Professor LUPIN. clever people who noticed that detail knew he would end up being a werewolf. especially after they foreshadowed werewolves in that scene with Snape teaching them about werewolves.
Fun Fact: So how Professor Lupin knew all about the map was.... he was one of the people that made it. When Harry tells Snape what it says, and you can also see it on the map it self, Wormtail, Moony, Padfoot and Prongs are the Marauders, at least that is what they called themselves. In the book it explains, Lupin aka Moony, was allowed to come to school but provisions had to be made. They planted the Whomping Willow to hide the entrance to the tunnel to the Shrieking Shack so he could transform in safety. Well his best friend's Peter aka Wormtail, Sirius aka Padfoot, and James aka Prongs learned how to become Animagi so they could go out with him when he turned. Peter a Rat, James a Stag and Sirius a big dog. Anyways, they also made the Marauders Map too. =)
I forget how they explained how the twins came by them. I also wonder. - wouldn’t the Mr. and Mrs. Weasley be around the same age as Harry’s parents and their crew and wouldn’t they know a bunch of this?
@@dnish6673 I think the twins fount it in a drawer in Filch's office, I would have loved it tho if it had been passed down through the years. As for Mr and Mrs Weasley, Im not sure if they were in school at the same time, probably. Tho they mighth ave not known their nicknames, they for sure wouldn't have known they were animagi or Lupin was a werewolf. At least not at the time. And the Marauders probably kept the map a secret.
The scene where Harry flies on Buckbeak is definitely one of my favorites The gray tones, low saturation, clowdy sky with a bit on sunrays coming through and the music give me a feeling of melancholy with a bit of hope For me it summarizes the vibe of the movie and sets the tone for the rest of the franchise and Harry's journey And I might be reading too much into it, but the whole scene visually and sonically transmits some sadness, but seeing Harry open his arms, smile and scream kind of gives a sense of freedom and finding happiness in the small things
You can see how the Harry Potter books/movies worked so well with children and young adults because they are true mystery stories that happen to have cool magic and fantasy elements.
Well everyone was better in the books. Harry was funnier. Hermione wasn't flawless. Dumbledore was infinitely cooler and interesting. But what they did to Ron, i consider it to be almost criminal. Still i love this series of films. At least for one generation Harry Potter was the experience of a lifetime.
@@soubhagyanayak3098 Agreed. I have nothing but love for the films. One of the last book adaptations that at least made the effort to respect the source material.
Fun fact: Harry's family lives in Surrey, and then Fudge says that his aunt was spotted flying outside of Sheffield. That is a distance of 180 miles and his aunt literally flew halfway across England!
Oh my she did a long haul smile.
My aunts are not nearly so aerodynamic.
Thank you i needed the laugh. 🤣🤣😁😁😁
Lupin is one of my favourite people in the series. He's more of a father figure towards Harry than most.
Lupin is legit my favorite character and David Thewlis was so good at bringing him to life. I love Sirius, but Lupin is definitely more a father figure because he can see Harry for who Harry is and not just a mini James. Such a great character.
Lupin is the strict mentor to Harry. Sirius is the soothing partner in crime.
He 's cool because he plays a character named Knox Harrington in the Big Lebowski. : )
Remember that time in the books Harry punches Lupin in the face and Lupin makes him his son’s godfather 😂 👑
Uncle
Remus Lupin, Sirius Black, Peter Pettigrew, and James Potter were best friends, and their group was called the Marauders. They created the map that Harry used in this movie. Remus became a Werewolf after being bitten by one, and his friends hid in the crazy tree every month to help Remus through his wolf phase.
Building on that... Lupin = Moony, Black = Padfoot, Pettigrew = Wormtail, and Potter = Prongs (as his animagus form was a stag, which is why that's Harry's Patronus form)

Pretty good video on why it's the best.
ua-cam.com/video/3hZ_ZyzCO24/v-deo.html
I personally prefer Goblet of Fire. Better tone and aesthetic I think.
I love Alfonso’s style so much
No. Every HP movie is the same average quality.
How love that when Lupin began transforming, Black's first instinct was to rush over and hold his friend.
The first two have some scary moments, but yeah this one takes a sharp turn. The movies (as well as the books of course) grew up with the audience.
for real, from this point on it gets more serious and takes a whole new turn especially with the next one, can't wait for her to react to the goblet of fire
Chocolate is the antidote because the cocoa and milk in it contains lots of Tryptophan, which coverts into Serotonin (the "happy hormon").
@@soulscyther666 Tbh, I thought fainting was caused by your blood sugar levels dropping or something. Then the chocolate would sorta help it go back up. Or maybe it's low blood pressure that causes you to faint.
@@Ugramosch THIS is the correct explanation.
Chocolate increases dopamine level.
Dementors I guess gives you depression.
Is this literally depicted like that in the books cuz the way you told that made me want to read them
@@furkanefezerenuz7445 yes this is depicted in the books more specifically than the movies.

I find this film the most boring in the series there's not exactly much going on apart from Teenage Drama

@@andrewft31 were they all in the same house? Did Peter join in when they tormented Snape?
I just remember hearing the explanation and being like "a-ha! that explains why no one trusted Sirius."

Lupin kept the map for a bit after taking i from Harry, for sure he saw Pettigrew the entire time
One of the big changes starting with this movie are the outdoor settings. The characters now have to go down and up the large hill to get to and from Hagrid's hut. The hut itself has also changed from a studio set to what looks to be a location set or else a much more detailed set.
I like it better that way though.
The series really grows with its audience. Thats what I really like about it. More long running series need to be like that

One of the things I wish they had touched upon in the movies was that the map was made by Sirius, Lupi, Pettigrew, and Harry's dad.
I used to watch this movie over and over on my portable dvd player under my sheets, just like Harry at the beginning of the movie.

Love your eye for detail, smart turn of phrase and witty commentary. Great job!
They’re just amazing moments
I think also what makes it really good is the fact that it’s the only Harry Potter film where Voldemort isn’t physically present, no one dies, Harry truly learns more about his parents and talks to Lupin and Sirus who really knew them.

Usually directors do that because with big budget movies a lot more studio meddling/interference comes with it.

LMAO at VKunia being like JK he's evil now. The irony is perfect.
I'm really enjoying your reactions V and I'm glad you're doing the Harry Potter. Great movies and great reactions.
*VKunia:* "He's very Ungrateful that you're here"
*Me:* "Considering she let her dog, Ripper, chase him up a tree, and didn't call him off until after Freaking Midnight?!?
Here we go! :)
25:14 do girls worry about what their hair look like from the back?
They give chocolate to little wizards and witches when they're sick or frightened because that's what we give to children when they are injured or frightened. At the doctor's office, for instance, after they get a shot the doctor gives them a sweet. Or if they fall and get a bruise, mom gives them a sweet. Children understand the relationship between injury/fear and chocolate, and Rowling knew this.
"We should kill Malfoy instead."
"Buckbeak is so sweet, I love that chicken horse."
These are some of my favorite things anyone has ever said, you're so unintentionally funny
My absolute Favourite Harry Potter movie! Great reaction as always 😊
As someone whose seen this movie and read the book dozens of times I’m having fun watching someone see it with fresh eyes
Moony - Remus Lupin (the Werewolf)
Wormtail - Peter Pettigrew (Rat Animagi)
Padfoot - Sirius Black (Dog Animagi)
Prongs - James Potter (James was also an animagi, and could become a Stag, which is why Harry’s Patronus has the form of a Stag)
Padfoot.”
Like, they didn’t need an exposition dump, just a solid Wham line like that to connect the dots.
Chocolate and sugar is good for people after they faint. That’s why Lupin keeps giving it to the kids when they’re lightheaded or have fainted.
Lupin never would have made a move anyway because of being a werewolf. Remember what happens later in the books?
the effect of aunt petunia blowing up into a balloon was actually mostly done with practical effects!! corridor crew has a really cool video about how they did it
I always loved this episode. It was actually the first one I saw.
I get excited when I see you upload these! I'm glad you're watching them through
Funny how parents know which babies will get bitten by werewolves and give them wolf related first names like Fenrir and Remus. (Also funny that werewolves target people who have wolf last names like Lupin and Grayback)
That's just JK Rowling proving how uncreative she is. The bad kid is name Malfoy, the cranky teacher is Moody, the kid who gets picked on is Longbottom...
@@FreakDaMIghet because it’s a book series for children…
@@FreakDaMIghet i have enough gripes about JK Rowling, but "uncreative" is a stretch for sure. Yeah, she borrowed heavily from other fantasy series and mythological stories, but at the end of the day she wrote books for CHILDREN. Can we all just calm down now lol
@@FreakDaMIghet I understand the hatred towards JK. Call her all the evil names available. But "uncreative" will never be in a pool of words to describe her 😂
This movie will always be my favorite from Harry Potter series and I think the casts look the best here 💜
I love the fact that you've taken a liking to Snape at THIS stage of the story.
You're going to have your heart broken twice before the end.
lupine means wolf and his name is Professor LUPIN. clever people who noticed that detail knew he would end up being a werewolf. especially after they foreshadowed werewolves in that scene with Snape teaching them about werewolves.
I have NEVER thought of this movie as eerie or scary. Always got a cosy feeling from it
Fun Fact: So how Professor Lupin knew all about the map was.... he was one of the people that made it.
@@TheRubberDuck77 I didn’t think the Weasley parents knew about the map. Just maybe the Potter crew in general.
I love how you refer to Buckbeak as "the chicken horse"
yeah, Buckbeak definatly flies better than a chicken.
And now that I think of it, he flies better than a horse too.
Not me she insulted Buckbeak
The scene where Harry flies on Buckbeak is definitely one of my favorites
The gray tones, low saturation, clowdy sky with a bit on sunrays coming through and the music give me a feeling of melancholy with a bit of hope
For me it summarizes the vibe of the movie and sets the tone for the rest of the franchise and Harry's journey
And I might be reading too much into it, but the whole scene visually and sonically transmits some sadness, but seeing Harry open his arms, smile and scream kind of gives a sense of freedom and finding happiness in the small things
This is where the fun begins
You can see how the Harry Potter books/movies worked so well with children and young adults because they are true mystery stories that happen to have cool magic and fantasy elements.
Rons tea leaf reading was correct. Harry suffered but was happy for it. Ron was so much cooler in the books...
Me: Sees the title...
Also me: "That's why we love it!"
Ha! A children’s movie? The first one is the closest thing to a children’s movie!! Lol my favorite one is coming up
Just like the books
