How to Take MARC Train from Baltimore MD to Washington DC | DMV Vlog

I'm sharing a video to show you how to ride the MARC Commuter Train from BWI Airport in Baltimore, MD to Union Station in Washington, DC. The MARC train was one of the best ideas the State of MD has ever come up with. Super convenient. Used to take it to DC regularly. I mean who in the hell wants to deal with DC traffic? It's legendary. I'm from Baltimore and years ago, I was required to be in morning meetings in the DC area at 9AM. 3 of us guys decided to share the expense and we had to leave NO LATER than 6AM. Yeah, that's right. 3 hours for what normally would have been a 1 hr trip. That's when I made up my mind to use the MARC. 30 hours a week in the car? Nah, that is the definition of insanity.

The only difference from the BWI Marc station that I'd add is that you have to pay to park your car in the garage...

Great idea! Yes, the Capitol Building is very close to Union Station - you can definitely walk there & around the Mall. Have a great time!

what locomotive did you have on your train haha. i rode that train yesterday from New Carrollton to BWI Airport and waited an hr for my Amtrak arrival. my train had an HHP-8 on it, it was a quick ride

I'm not sure what type, but I agree it was a quick ride. Each time I've ridden the MARC, it arrived early and doesn't wait - so if you miss that train, its a long 1+ hour wait until the next one!

Great question! Unfortunately, you cannot walk. Instead, take the free shuttle from BWI Airport (pickup outside Baggage Claim) to the BWI train station. It is a short 5-minute shuttle ride.

I usually take the Amtrak from BWI to DC then head to Charlottesville. Cani take my carryon and backpack on the Marc?

Yes, just like Amtrak you can take definitely take a backpack and large suitcase onboard!

Yes! From Union Station, you can take the red line metro a few stops to downtown :)

Yes it’s very nice to live close to it as I can get around easily from Brunswick to DC but one thing that I don’t understand is why it’s not called the Martinsburg line because it doesn’t end in Brunswick and ends in Martinsburg

Do you show your ticket to someone before boarding or after boarding?

Great question! You show your ticket either:
1. As you board the train - everyone will stand in line and crew will rip your ticket as you board the train
2. Or, when already in your seat - crew will walk through the aisle and rip your ticket while you're seated
