@sonnyblack71 Yes I wonder if what they’re perceiving as unnatural dialogue is just the way people talked back then, speech patterns etc were very different.
I’m sure any fan of this film knows that due to a lack of any kind of budget for the film John Carpenter had somebody go to a local Halloween store and get any cheap mask they could that was relatively nondescript. Well the mask that Michael Myers wears is that ofWilliam Shatner, Captain Kirk of the starship enterprise. Once you know it, you can see his face in that mask.
@fynnthefox9078 It wasn't a small budget by any stretch of the imagination, dumbass. Holly wood just thinks.millions of dollars isn't that much. So to them 300,000 isn't a big budget even though that is a HUGE Budget!
I'm only halfway through the video and this is hands down the most entertaining reaction to this movie I've ever seen lol. You guys genuinely made my night. Somehow y'all managed to make me love this film even more than I already had
Ash was right , Michael doesn't run , he's The Shape , he's supernatural , he literally vanishes. He doesn't need to run , he exists! In knock off slasher films the killer appears impossibly near or in unexpected places without explanation and is immune to damage beyond credibility, things Michael does just became a trope of the genre. But in Halloween it was intentional because he's the Bogeyman. After Halloween most slashers were scary because it could happen in real life. A psycho creep stalking , the realism was scary . But Halloween was sort of a trick , at the start he's an escaped mental patient killer but the film drops hints he's doing stuff that is supernatural. It's a great twist that makes Halloween more macabre and a modern version of a classic movie monster and part of the Halloween spooky vibe than about a crazed killer. All that kinda got lost in the hype. People craved more realism but Halloween endures because it's an old school myth.
People don't seem to get the Michael Myers character very accurately. He doesn't behave the way he does because he is a "creep" or a "stalker" or even "evil". It's because from the very beginning he has been made to feel as if he did not exist. He seems to slip in and out of a scene so easily because that has always been his existence in the eyes of other people from the man's childhood. The only thing that makes this character seem "superhuman" in any way is ability to accept pain. That's really my only pet peeve about the character and it makes him look less and less believable as the Halloween movies progress.
"This director is amazing at creeping you out." Thats why he was one of the 'Big 4' of his day. (Metalheads will get that) Craven, Capenter, Kubrick, Cronenberg
@@darchangel8675309 yep yep. So many shots that don't just come from direction but camera choices. Editing, camera, locations. All as important as the guy pointing marks.
The brief "Unmasked" Michael Myers at end of movie was Tony Moran whose sister was Erin Moran ( Joanie) from Happy Days TV Show, Nick Castle played Michael throughout movie, but director John Carpenter wanted a more " Angelic" face for ummasked scene.😊🎃🎃
you guys should watch. Candyman (1992) The Fly (1986) Hellraiser (1987) Child's Play (1988) Halloween II (1981) A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge (1985) A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987)
Excellent list. The classics are required viewing. I would add The Omen (1976), Damien - Omen II (1978) and The Exorcist (1973) if they haven't already watched them.
*An American Werewolf in London* (1981) is going to make ASH and HANNAH go crazy on camera, specially the first transformation scene. Also, UNDERWORLD (2003) and BLADE II.
That would be amazing but I don't think I could stomach watching that film again I made the mistake of eating when I first watched it never again have I eaten close or during any film
Ok so that was this movie. I was calling him The Shape in a review once and I got all up in my head about calling him that. Couldn't remember if that was for MM or another movie or book or something.
Little Lindsey was so traumatized she grew up to the one of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. She's also Paris Hilton's aunt. Also, the acting isn't totally the actors fault. Movies were heavily censored back then. At one point briefly nudity was more acceptable than violence. If they went too far they could get a dreaded X rating which was a box office killer. It wasn't until the 80's that both were big in movies.
One of those true horror classics. Though my favorite Carpenter film is The Fog, this is still very much high up on my list. Even though I do own it on Blu-ray, I will be seeing it at my local historic theatre in October. It should be a great experience. By the way, in case no one has mentioned it, the mask was actually made from a William Shatner Captain Kirk mask. They expanded the eye holes and painted it white.
Looved your reactions to this Ash & Hannah!! You have to watch Halloween 2 as soon as possible!! Its a continuation of this taking place on the same night. Trust!!

The most influential horror movie of all time, I personally try and watch this every Halloween night while passing out candy. The music, cinematography, and direction in this movie are all perfection. I love how Carpenter didn't rely on cheap scares instead he went for tension filled scenes and did a beautiful job. The kills were a bit cheesy by today's standards but remember back then horror films were brand new, now it's more an art house movie but at the time my grandmother said she was paranoid years after she saw it at night time when she would babysit kids in highschool😂
Seriously, what's a more "cheesy" kill in a horror movie? The modern horror movies have the most over-the-top, impossible in real life kills you will ever see.
So fun! And to be fair to Laurie: before this movie, very few villains refused to die after being stabbed in the throat and falling down. This movie really popularized the trope of "always make SURE they're dead, otherwise they'll come back" - so Laurie (and audiences) weren't trained to double-tap or triple-stab when the villain is down and seemingly dead. :)
The MASK is really what this character is all about. The audience doesn't see him show emotional reactions to being stabbed or shot so how could they guage the relative impact of the damage? It may look "cheesy" to modern audiences but it's more realistic than they think it is. Ever asked a cop what it's like to shoot a guy who is on PCP? In Iraq, U.S. soldiers would pelt the enemy with multiple rounds without dropping them because they were so hopped up on amphetamines. A human body can sustain an incredible amount of damage when the pain signals to the brain are blocked.
I had been waiting for ages for this one and you two didn't disappoint! Loved your reaction and am glad you both liked this masterpiece. It really set the tone and standards for an entire genre. I hope you guys continue with the franchise, especially Halloween II as it's one of those rare sequels where the sequel is equally good (or better) than the first. Hannah will be glad to know that Michael's backstory is further explored as the franchise progresses, but with that being said... fans really have mixed opinions on it. Personally I think you simply have to take the Halloween universe for what it is and just enjoy the ride, because as far as film/franchise universes go, the Halloween one really is a great one.
I remember your reaction to the Texas Chainsaw massacre and how disturbed you guys were. I like to think that compared to the latter, Halloween was quite tame and scary in a different sense. Rather than using graphic imagery and over the top performances, this film relies on subtlety and show building suspense for scares. TCM was like a giant fanged, clawed, horned monster roaring in your face. This film was like a quiet, eerie, mysterious voice whispering in your ear and telling you you’re going to die soon. Regardless, this was still a great classic worth watching. I watch it every year around the holiday season!!!
It is so refreshing to see you guys' reactions to this movie. Pop culture has spoiled this movie for most people (knowing Michael was a child when he killed his sister, etc.). It's nice to see you experience it the way people did when it first came out.
Love the intro man! And great reaction, watching you guys watch this film reminded me of my first time watching it. The Jump scares and perspective bring a great sense of realism! 🤝💪🎃
Hardcore Hannah was really let down by the violence. "That was disappointing". "There was no blood". "The build up is worse than the kills". Time for you guys to watch the Terrifier series. Part 3 is out on the 11th also
Ash, at the end of the reaction you and Hanna said the death scenes are cheesy and anti-climactic, which is true but it depends on how you look at it. John Carpenter often inserts socio-political and sexual subtexts into his films. Halloween explores themes of sexual liberation, repression, awakaning and voyeurism. Carpenter uses tension and release - building suspense that culminates in a brief climax, and dissipating in a cathartic manner. This can be seen as a metaphor for orgasming, which explains why the victims moan so much after being penetrated by a long thicc object.
Same with Alfred Hitchcock and Psycho. Interesting that Marion had to die once she took off her clothes and took a shower. And in a lot of other slashers the sluttiest characters get killed off first.
Hanna knows little about the real profession of acting. She has never spent a minute on a movie set. I have been on many movie sets. She doesn't know what she is talking about but she's charming.
MODERN movie death scenes are much worse and often incredibly stupid, compared to the death scenes in this movie. "People don't sound like that when they are being stabbed!" So now they are experts on being around real people being stabbed! Total BS analysis.
Great reaction as always. Truly an absolute classic. John Carpenter was at the top of his game when he made this. The scares and thrills are paced beautifully and get me all the time even though I've seen it multiple times. The score is iconic. Every time I hear it the hairs in the back of my neck go up. Thing is.there's an aspect of the film that makes me laugh. The actual death scenes particularly of the ladies are funny to me because of their funny facial expressions. But the anticipation of the kills, the waiting and wondering when Michael is going to strike is genuinely scary and gets me all the time.
I'm soo glad ya finally reacting to one of the best Iconic Horror films in it's surprising ya didn't done this sooner. And Ash kills me with his symbolisms 😅
This is one of the three movies that eased me into loving horror movies (I was easily scared as a kid) The other two being Gremlins and Final Destination. 🧡 🖤 🔪 🎃 💜
What's interesting about this first Halloween film is that it was essentially made by "kids" on a very low budget just to experiment with making a movie. The entire cast and crew were either teenagers, or in their early 20's. The oldest person on the set was the director John Carpenter, and he was only 30 years old at the time himself.
Hands down near the two best people to watch in a reaction🎉🎉 the way you jump scared😂 very good taste to pick this movie takes me back can't believe it's 70s movie this movie does the a lot that modern movies don't today crazy nothing but love for both of you
Hey Ash, I'm watching the intro, and the mention of her sister made me remember: when you first started the channel, you did reactions with your sister! And those were hilarious too! Would you ever bring her back for a reaction? I'd love to see you flanked by your sister on one side and Hannah on the other, I think that would make a hilarious reaction, no matter what movie it is! Just a thought!
Hannah made the jump scares worse and it made them hilarious. Such a great interaction from you both. I'm hoping you two have a few more scary movies in mind throughout. Keep it up. But, from your American cousin, keep doing it. These are 100% instant success!
You know whats really cool? Stopping right around here. Possibly the sequel but not necessary 😂 or go for the Rob Zombie versions for a gritty take with more background. I fuckin love Halloween 🎃 But even most fans will say each movie writes itself into a slightly stranger corner. Pitch Meeting breaks it down fairly well 😂
I think the idea is that Michael isn't a man per se, but he's the embodiment of what COULD be in the shadows. You can't kill him because that predatory danger can always be lurking just out of sight. He's the worst case scenario when it comes to a killer: he's uncaring, unfeeling, and unstoppable.
I remember watching this movie as a kid in the 70's. Scared me to death, still does. lol You 2 make me laugh so much with your interactions with each other and love your accents. Keep up the great, funny reactions. Watching you from Florida U.S.A. about to get hit with a hurricane in a few days.
Hannah - As much fun as it can be to watch you freak out, sometimes I worry that a film may go too far for you one day. You know yourself better than anyone about what your limits are / what you are comfortable with, and I hope I am coming across as coming from a place of caring about you and not from a bossy, wet blanket place. Having watched you for a while now and seeing your sensitivity to gory situations I am definitely worried about you watching the Human Centipede. Just saying maybe think on it or talk it over with Ash before jumping in. On a lighter note, Love the reactions from both of you. You have both provided me with hours of entertainment and countless laughs!
What i loved most of Ash & her jump scares is how Carpenter was able to create it with the simple but such efffective ways as it turned out. Maybe already mentioned in other comments, the mask. It wasn't like even an official movie prop one, Carpenter or whoever stumbled across it just at some odd store.
Now watch HALLOWEEN 2 (1981), HALLOWEEN (2018), HALLOWEEN KILLS (2021) The other movies are diffrent storylines and stuff, even if Halloween 2 and 2018 are diffrent sequals you need to watch all three in that order.

Well, I mean, I doubt he wanted the acting to be bad lol but yeah I think most of his creative efforts were directed to building a horrifying atmosphere.
he wanted bad acting in They Live. Here is lack of money to pay real actors for supporting roles
I believe the late Debra Hill wrote the dialogue as way to how teenage girls talked doing the 70's...
Halloween showed that you can make a good movie with a small budget.
@fynnthefox9078
It wasn't a small budget by any stretch of the imagination, dumbass.
The guy who plays "The Shape" could be considered the most famous background actor ever.
Another great reaction guys! Your comedic timing and chemistry as a couple is unmatched.
"This director is amazing at creeping you out." Thats why he was one of the 'Big 4' of his day. (Metalheads will get that) Craven, Capenter, Kubrick, Cronenberg
Let’s give it up for Dean Cundey (the cinematographer) while we’re giving props.
@@darchangel8675309 yep yep. So many shots that don't just come from direction but camera choices. Editing, camera, locations. All as important as the guy pointing marks.
George Romero was another member of that horror pantheon.
@choomah
Directors don't matter and are over rated. Screenwriters are WAY more important!
@@GaryTongue-zn5di Unless the director also wrote the film, don't wave directors off.
Such a perfect Halloween movie with fall vibes. A classic. It's actually a really cozy movie in a weird way.
Agree it is definitely cosy
Definitely a cozy film. Watch it on a hopefully cold October 31st, under a blanket. Good times.
Back packs were not considered cool back in the 70's no one I know had one!
Super cozy and nostalgic. A movie that actually feels like Halloween somehow.

you guys should watch.
Candyman (1992)
The Fly (1986)
Hellraiser (1987)
Child's Play (1988)
Halloween II (1981)
A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge (1985)
A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987)
im dying for them to watch childs play
Excellent list. The classics are required viewing. I would add The Omen (1976), Damien - Omen II (1978) and The Exorcist (1973) if they haven't already watched them.
@mmoore0325 that's a good list too! And I'll also add War of the Worlds (2005), Saw III (2006)
I think Hannah would literally vomit watch The Fly.
@@norwegianblue2017 oh definitely
*An American Werewolf in London* (1981) is going to make ASH and HANNAH go crazy on camera, specially the first transformation scene.
Also, UNDERWORLD (2003) and BLADE II.
Ahhh......a fellow lover of American Werewolf in London. My fav movie of all time.
Oh yeah. I'm not a horror fan, but the classics like this and American Werewolf are immortal.
Werewolf reaction is going to amazing
At the Oscars, Jamie Lee Curtis thanked all the "horror" fans who supported her career. Her speech was ICONIC and super sweet❤
You HAVE to watch The Fly!! No neck Hannah (maybe even no neck Ash) is guaranteed
Jeff Goldblum Fly, with maybe a little Fly original thrown in. '80s remakes FTW.
That would be amazing but I don't think I could stomach watching that film again I made the mistake of eating when I first watched it never again have I eaten close or during any film
"Cabin Fever 2002" for NO Neck Hannah 😅
Hannah better watch it on an empty stomach and a puke bucket on standby :)
I think Cronenberg's "The Fly" is one of the finest horror films ever made. I saw it on the big screen when it came out and it was a blast.
Fact: In this film the killer is known as The Shape. He's not called Michael Myers until the second film.
I never noticed this
Ok so that was this movie. I was calling him The Shape in a review once and I got all up in my head about calling him that. Couldn't remember if that was for MM or another movie or book or something.
The first word spoken in this film is "Michael" and his sisters grave said Judith "Myers"
The acting really isn't that bad. Would most of these people be believable as real human beings? YES.
Fun reaction by yall!! I definitely hope yall continue the franchise, it's my favorite. Grew up with these movies, love them!
They expanded the eye holes and painted it white.
hope you had a great time hanna! the jonas brothers were my first concert when i was like 13 or something at a state fair ❤

The Motherfucking Shape.
The funny thing is that the guy who actually plays that part is not scary at all. It's the mask that makes that role so scary.

William Shatner - "Turn around" 🎶

Fun Faxct Ash Undertaker admited on his podcast he crafted his character around Michael Myers and Jason Voorhess
I think this is the best reaction I've seen for Halloween. Hannah screaming anytime there's a jumpscare.🤣🤣🤣
One movie I absolutely PRAY y'all do soon (maybe for Christmas) is Gremlins. 💚 💜
Amazing and funny reaction guys!
You HAVE to do Halloween 2 (1981) it's a fantastic sequel and conclusion to the ending of this movie! 👍
It is so refreshing to see you guys' reactions to this movie. Pop culture has spoiled this movie for most people (knowing Michael was a child when he killed his sister, etc.). It's nice to see you experience it the way people did when it first came out.
Ash has good insight on camera movements
Love the intro man! And great reaction, watching you guys watch this film reminded me of my first time watching it. The Jump scares and perspective bring a great sense of realism! 🤝💪🎃
8:13 I love how Michael’s dad is frozen in his tracks but the mom is just visibly annoyed and glaring at him like she’s sick of his shit.
The director (John Carpenter) is one of the GOATs in my opinion.
I love the new intro!!!! Man has it been a journey with you guys !!!! Love you ash!!!! And could NEVA forget the gorgeous, hilarious Hanna!!!!!
Let’s gooooo… bro I absolutely love this channel
You guys NEED to watch Black Christmas from 1974! Even scarier than this. Such a brilliant horror film.
Halloween was very much influenced by Black Christmas.
Especially the intro with Killers Pov looking at the front porch @@fynnthefox9078

We need the Scream franchise next, Michael and Ghostface are the most iconic killers I think.

This is one of the three movies that eased me into loving horror movies (I was easily scared as a kid) The other two being Gremlins and Final Destination. 🧡 🖤 🔪 🎃 💜
I bet FD haunts you more... or.maybe FD2 lol FD2 seems to haunt the largest number of viewers out of the series.
What's interesting about this first Halloween film is that it was essentially made by "kids" on a very low budget just to experiment with making a movie. The entire cast and crew were either teenagers, or in their early 20's. The oldest person on the set was the director John Carpenter, and he was only 30 years old at the time himself.
John Carpenter is a legend.
Thanks, Ashkan! Thanks Hannah! 🎃 I love this one... and there are so many in the series to enjoy.

Possibly the sequel but not necessary 😂 or go for the Rob Zombie versions for a gritty take with more background. I fuckin love Halloween 🎃 But even most fans will say each movie writes itself into a slightly stranger corner. Pitch Meeting breaks it down fairly well 😂
H20 would be a good next one to watch. But yeah seeing all of them probably isn't necessary.

This dude and his symbolism Lol 😂
I think the idea is that Michael isn't a man per se, but he's the embodiment of what COULD be in the shadows. You can't kill him because that predatory danger can always be lurking just out of sight. He's the worst case scenario when it comes to a killer: he's uncaring, unfeeling, and unstoppable.

On a lighter note, Love the reactions from both of you. You have both provided me with hours of entertainment and countless laughs!
7:00 This is why I love you two. I couldn't care less about this movie, but every one of your reactions is still entertaining as all hell. Keep it up!
What i loved most of Ash & her jump scares is how Carpenter was able to create it with the simple but such efffective ways as it turned out. Maybe already mentioned in other comments, the mask. It wasn't like even an official movie prop one, Carpenter or whoever stumbled across it just at some odd store.
I saw the 2018 halloween before i saw the original
