    Funny how many UA-cam watercolor artists talk about how to prep the paper, but not the paper itself. Let alone making a comparison. When I was young, before UA-cam, most of what I learned was through experimentation. That's expensive. This is a really good video. I Use Arches and only Arches for my best paintings. Strathmore 400 for when I'm trying something out or just having fun. I really hope you get to use all the paper. Not cheap. As always, thanks so much for you wonderful, fun videos. Cheers

    The texture of the paper actually looks really cool on the elephant's skin! Lovely!

    Thank you for the test! I love inktense products.
    I had the same experience with lifting the Pigment again, but only for the browns. I wasn't able to reactivate, for example, the blue tones. In addition, I found that the browns leave the most not solved pigments, which leads to a more noticeable texture.

    I absolutely love using Inktense. I have both the pencils and blocks and want to use them more. Thank you for the inspiration and lovely video. :)

      You're welcome 🙂 I still havent tried the blocks!

      @@paintingandchocolate I tend to use the blocks more on the nylon board like you have - it is easy to scribble them and/or shave them to make 'paint' with them - especially for the base layers. The colors are identical to the pencils although they don't have the 'new' colors available in blocks - only the original 72. But nice if you need to cover a larger area.

    I'm honestly shocked at the price tag of that paper 😮 Your artwork is stunning, and this review was very informative, but I don't think I'll be trying that paper anytime soon, I'll be using my Arches :)

    the price seems incredibly prohibitive to me.. I've spent money on wonderful papers, arche, fabriano , stonehenge , but the price of these derwent pads feels crazy to me .. just doesn't feel worth it .. loved your demo

    I want to try the regular artist Derwent Watercolour Pencils. I know that those watercolor pencils are inferior to Albrecht Durer and Museum Aquarelle in terms of lightfastness but I found out that its 36 is significantly cheaper than the Albrecht Durer's 36 and as far as I know, their Browns and the least saturated colours are at maximum lightfastness.

    Wonderful video. Curious about how the Arches hot press compares to the Derwent paper.

      I think not as good in my experience because it does dry fast and won't take wet in wet as well. Although I'm sure some artists would still pull off the wet in wet in their style with this one.

    I like the paper but I'm not sold on it being that much better than my current paper. It's nice to know it's good quality though.

    • @paintingandchocolate
      @paintingandchocolate  10 місяців тому

      I didn't mention it but in the end my Arches always seems to win, the fact it feels more traditional also. So I do feel a bit like you even though this paper delivers.

    Of all my art supplies, I regret the inktense pencil purchase the most.
    I think that I expected them to be similar to watercolor pencils, but with a more "inky" quality.
    What I get is an unaccomplished, juvenile looking artwork. I just gave up!
    I'm a good artist, EXCEPT when I use these pencils. 😢 It's absolutely embarrassing.

    • @paintingandchocolate
      @paintingandchocolate  10 місяців тому

      Maybe there could be another way for you to use them, i find them very similar to the watercolor pencils so i use them the same.

    Lightfast paper is the smooth (hot press) paper. This one is the cold press. British way of confusing everyone. Regardless, it’s not worth the cost given the many alternatives that are better and cheaper.
