Chicory harvest with 3 Ploeger AR-4B | Récolte des Endives (chicorée) | Witlofoogst bij Jan Bakker

Three tracked Ploeger AR-4B are seen harvesting chicory roots in the Netherlands. These roots are part of a unique 2-stage process. They will be reared on hydroponics to grow crops of 'endives', which is a very tasty vegetable. It is famous in Belgium and France, but a lot is also grown in the Netherlands.
The harvesters are actually converted potato harvesters with a different intake to gather these roots, which are grown on 50cm beds. Three tractors and 3-axle trailers are needed to keep up with the harvesting fleet. Two Fendt 828 Vario S4 and a Claas Axion 850, all with Jan Veenhuis trailers. The harvesters are owned by Dutch contractor Gebr. van Unen and the tractors are from Landbouwbedrijf Jan Bakker.
