It still amazes me that people who do not pay for life insurance policies think they are entitled to that money! People who pay these policies make a sacrifice to pay these policy’s! Greedy!

No one has to know that you have life insurance on your spouse and how much, especially the in-laws. When the family asks if you have money to cover the funeral expenses, just simply say yes. Is different on this case because she bought the insurance from the sister
in-law, but normally, it's no one's business. If you pay for the life insurance, it's yours.
If everything is true based on this nyab's story, then the crazy, mean mil should just marry her own sons so she can control them and keep their life insurance money. I'm glad this nyab didn't let her mean in-laws force her into giving them money they were not entitled to.

To reap the full benefits of a marriage one has to act in the best of interests of the other person. I dnt believe you did that here. You let your anger got the best of you just because the law is on your side. You knew your in laws didn’t stand a chance taking you to court. The least you could do was buried the man by reimbursing the mother in-law. It's obvious this lady is not telling the whole truth! There's no way anyone can just put a restraining order on you, the court would have to find you guilty to put this on you. Plus, you're the wife, you have more rights to his body than his family!

Smart lady for not giving them a penny. Even in the US, old Hmong people still think like your in-laws. They think they're still in Laos where old people rule. They still have this tribal, nomadic mentality where a patriarch or matriarch rules. Hmong "law" don't look at right or wrong but rather who has more influence. Since we're all taught to respect the elderly, old Hmong people get the impression that everyone will do their bidding... that right or wrong, what they did is right because they're older. And everyone does... if in Laos, everyone does if using Hmong "law". But if you use a country's law, Hmong "law" stands no chance. If you're a woman, if you're an orphan, if you have few or no relatives, if you're young and going against a Hmong who's older than you, don't go to a Hmong "court" (like those with kwvtij or 18 clan) because old Hmong men is bias when it comes to age and gender.

My dad passed away! And we had a family meeting about the INSURANCE money! My dad brother my UNCLE wanted my mom to divide the money and give half to my dad second wife! Umm freaking no! Clearly there was too much resentment and hatred in this family! For someone to hate to this extent, you had to have alternative motives to what you were doing. I think the mil thought if she put a restraining order on the dil she would be able to act the victim n get the insurance money. Clearly she was really proud of herself, until she knew she f’ed up. Mil never wanted anything to do with the dil and she still tried even after death to keep Dil away. Some mil’s r this evil, even during death. She wasn’t going to give up her son to the dil! Treacherous mil she is. I totally under stand her last words, if u can’t be nice to your dil, then just save your daughter for for son! That said a lot about her life as a dil of this horrid family, I’m happy you r married and out of that family.
Life insurance is always an issue, regardless of ethnicity. I've seen first-hand, and it was horrible! There are entitled people all around us. Smh.

In the hmong community, it makes no sense that this lady’s husband funeral, went the way it did. No men involved?? They wouldn’t let their own grandsons see their dad?? Those things don’t make any sense. Judges won’t usually just issue a restraining order if it makes no sense at all, why would a judge tell a wife she can’t go see her husband at his funeral, unless there’s something crazy involved that’s not told in this version of the story….
