I found your channel today while looking for some tips on making a baking yeast wash and found the recipe very helpful and the video easy to understand. Thank you and congrats on your semi-retirment.
Glad to see you are back up and running! The best thing to come from the pandemic and lockdown is I learned this as a new hobby. It incorporates a lot of my interests (design, engineering, fabricating, cooking, and the side benefit of being able to imbibe the product!) Cheers and here's hoping 2021 is a much better year!
I’ve learnt heaps from your videos, I’ve got a little air still as at the moment it’s what the wife would allow, I’ve been doing mostly sugar washes, and had some success. I might proceed with a setup like yours. Cheers.
My brother in law started off with an Air Still. In the last 2 years he has built up an impressive bunch of gear that I would LOVE to also have......... It all starts from humble beginnings masato......
Great seeing this. By the way, did you see video RUNNING THE T500 LIKE A POT STILL by Barley and Hops Brewing? Looks like removing all internals from the reflux column turns the column into a normal still pot...
Hi Paul, the brass ring are called olives, I too have joined the ranks of the retired and don't know where I had time to work. I could do with you over in the UK as I am off my feet waiting for hip surgery and my still keeps me going, not legal here but I have worked in court most my life so a walk on the wild side is quite a refreshing change, and stilling is not bank robbery. Have you seen the work Chase the Craft has done with the T500, He is a little closer to you in NZ and you may want to check this out. He has done a good review and a few mods that are interesting, none destructive, reversible and cheap. Any chance you can post the links for the voltage regulator you have found please as I would love to get hold of that. I have just bought an uprated boiler with a little more power and while this provides more control than on and off the old T500 had, variable control would be superb. Keep up the good work, Bernie
They make a dedicated lynearm that fits the cone. I gess your solution will produce a product with higher abv but less taste. It’s a question of lynearm angel and the hight of the condenser I sopose.
Awesome work mate. I love your videos and can't wait to see more!! Do consider starting a patreon, I would chuck in $5 a month to see more content from you.
Your condenser has water control on it, wouldn't that be where you can control the temperature. Electrical control would be if you didn't have the water option, right?
Blowing the dust off this.... The top of the T500 column has the seperation already there, that loop of tubing connects both to run as one cooling system to make it easy/simple, you just use the condenser infeed from the top and you're away.
Hey Brendan, I will be distilling twice, but not with the reflux column. I now have more control with this pot still and can now boil at between 78c and 80c for best result.

Hey Greg. I agree, you can take the saddles out and stop the reflux, but with my system the boiler went full power. Even using a variable power control, I could not monitor the temp at the top of the column, my T500 only allowed me to monitor the temp mid way up at the cooled output. I am aiming to have the temperature of the boil between 78C and 80C.
Welcome back .
Very informative videos.
Happy That you back and have more time .
excited to see more .
Good luck.
Hey! Glad to see you're back. I was worried we lost ya. Looking forward to seeing you make some more videos.

Glad to see you back mate, maby weekly uploads and a patrion page would be of interest to you.
Sounds good, keep them videos do coming! I’m looking forward for these videos!
Im really pleased i found the channel and now you are back - awesome - hope to learn a thing or two
I am glad you are back
Whoa! Been waiting for some time! Thanks for the upload!
ah yes its been a while but its great to see you back again
Looking forward to seeing what you do with all that!! Nice to see you back here!
Good to see you back mate 😁
Great to see you back!

Yep, been able to pump out regular videos since last December. I'll join you, Imbibe away.........

Great stuff and look forward to your future output. A copper cleaning video on the alembic dome would also be useful ! cheers.

Just discovered your channel. Looking forward to seeing more videos from you soon
Hey Hopping Mad..... (I feel that way quite often)
Happy you enjoy my content, heaps of interesting stuff coming up.
Love the video, glad your going to start making more of them!
More to come!
Have the same mosquito looking potstill column, I'll be interested in how you connect and run the cooling water.

Fantastic video and very interesting indeed thanks
Glad you enjoyed it Mark
Awesome thanks 🤟
welcome back man, where have you been?
What brand and where did you get that power temperature control unit
Also how many litres is your boiler 👍

Your condenser has water control on it, wouldn't that be where you can control the temperature. Electrical control would be if you didn't have the water option, right?
The aim is to reduce the temp via voltage to only allow 78 degrees C at the top
Where is the condenser for your new unit?
Inside the down spout area
I though you remove the packing from the column, and it could behave like a pot still. I like the regulator idea tho!
You need to also remove the water flow from the reflux column. Might do a video on this, thanks Reavermore....
@@pauljacobs5390 remove the the waterflow from the product end condenser?
@@pauljacobs5390 ahhh cool the condenser and ignore the column, I get it

So you are going to distil the product from a reflux still ? So you are now distilling twice ?
Hey Brendan, I will be distilling twice, but not with the reflux column. I now have more control with this pot still and can now boil at between 78c and 80c for best result.
Is that temperature control you bought is it 110 or 240 Thanks
In Australia we run at 240V. the temperature is relevant to the voltage in your country.
@@pauljacobs5390 I looked up the website to bad they don’t ship to US Thanks

i have turbo 500 remove the coper and the saddles and it becomes Pot Still.

Just take the saddles out of the original setup, run it at 60-70 C, makes delicious Brandy.
