What messed me up was i went to fill the thing and it started coming out of the lower tap spigot. I had it flat down which on every device i have ever used is how it should be to shut off. On this one it's off when it's straight up. Odd indeed. I guess kiwis drive on the left side of the road also so maybe that explains it..
getting hot on the water exit (top pie) makes the rubber pipe to kink and close the flow. you need to run a lot of water to use this condenser. I just have made my own and the setup is perfect.
I made a smaller alembic still it has an internal condenser one run will produce 160 OP it is so clean but where you get the dark fluids is from stuck esters on the exhaust pipe ,I do a pot wash after the second run then it will come clear again.
Thanks for the great video, one thing I found that needs to be done on this still is a small amount of flour paste on the base of the tempature guage stem, if you don't do that the vapour's leak around the stem and that's not good. Thanks again for the video.
Never used any ceramic enhancers and conditioner, the only problem was a measles wash, which is known for being a dog. Another good tip - make a stainless steel pot insert to place botanicals for gin or other "thick" washes.
So if u put 3 25L mash runs through to get 25L of 35-40% alcohol to fill up for your second time through what is the return of that? is it less return but stronger ( 50-60% ) or less return still at 40% but cleaner tasting?
+Robert V Because He was theoretically doing a Stripping run. In a Stripping run you collect everything, dont make any cuts or discard foreshots, then run it a second time. Second time you would discard the foreshots
Everything I've run through this still, water and spirits, tastes like the O-ring on the nut at 3:30. Very disappointed that it took me so long to track down this disgusting off-flavor.
Hi, info@lovebrewing.co.uk is our email. But we aren't running courses at present. Please check out the guides on our website lovebrewing.co.uk and enjoy your visit.
Never use "conditioner" I mean... what?? The amount of unnecessary rubbish the corporate brewing companies tell you to use is just crazy. How the hell do you think they got by making rum back in the day without "conditioner".... conditioner is something Fabio uses in his hair... its got nothing to do with distilling...
Have we got any viewers bought have one I want to make JD bourbon and gin Appreciate your thoughts Oh yea you are all right about all that plastic, very very bad idea No drip pipe required Use glass every where else
I bought one of these tops it’s awesome I can’t get enough water thru but sits at 188 for hourbor so before creeps up on 5 hr run get 6 litres 120 percent
people if u use this still dont use any of that tubing on the outlet its not good for you also for $220 i have a still that can run heaps faster and has a much better column length that was mad by a still seller and have a parrot as well use glass not plastic for agitators in boiler i use marbles or anything that cant impart flavours but will jump about in their once i have it back up and running in a few weeks ill be doing some vids of my process i had to get rid of my boiler as of size and weight and was moving interstate and now putting another together
Last part was so positive, seems like the best next step from homebrew.
Dude I watched the whole video bc your voice is hella relaxing
I don’t know if that condenser is big enough, but that dome looks great.

How do you like this still so far? How many runs have you done with it? Would you recommend it? Thanks
I found a small earpiece to my headphones. Slip that over the probe and it helps seals that up, also keeps the thermometer from spinning.
Will you need a throw all of the first time its used? ie a sacrificial run

Hi Richard, when are you guy' finally going to do a complete run using the alembic. new product should be followed with video. thank you
Marty.
Does this fit a Grainfather G30?
Yes
Anyone know how much cooling water is used during a 5 gallon run?
2.5 ltrs per minute for 3 hours
First 50ml are the foreshots?! The heads are after this.

Thanks for this vid. I can't wait to get started.
the still in the clip how much does it cost & where do you get it from?
Ray Martin anyone?
Jesus... its Ray Martin for sure....
Can I attach the basket, that I have with my T500 Reflux?
Is there a still that makes soda?
+Tim Anderson Yes its called a Sodastream
Perfect after the second time he smacked his lips I shut it off
You said that the second run stil produces methanol. How can that be? You discarded the first 50 ml's at the first runs...
+Robert V Because He was theoretically doing a Stripping run. In a Stripping run you collect everything, dont make any cuts or discard foreshots, then run it a second time. Second time you would discard the foreshots
@Robert V you do know what the cure for methanol poisoning is rught
TheMrkylester101 Yep, drink lots of ethanol! no joking!

Can I have your email? I am visiting the UK and wanted to have a course to learn the art of distilling as a hobby.

You're referring to the foreshots as heads... WRONG
Do these guy's ever answer.
No lol
How do you poms sound so feminine?

On a stripping run (1st run) you collect everything.
Dagooglenet You should toss the first bit.. acetone and methanol. Tastes like garbage.
@@PickledAndFermented on the second run yes, you do toss methanol. Unless you are doing one run.
So for the 2nd run is the " Wash" just more or less pure alcohol ? Seems a big fire /explosion risk to boil that.
@@tonyt303 you only put 40% ABV or less in the boiler. Run it a lower power setting when doing spirit run.
