  • This Genmax GM3500iAED is one impressive, lightweight, and very usable inverter generator. Not only is it 40lbs lighter than comparable generators, but it also has remote start and dual fuel capability. This little machine is certainly impressive. Be sure to watch the video to see it run my 15kBTU RV AC on both gasoline and propane.

    There’s not many negatives about this generator. Now that i’ve had awhile. I run mine strictly on propane I just try to avoid gasoline don’t like the fumes. It’s perfect for our needs. Anyway appreciate your videos thanks

    Damn, you have a great UA-cam voice. Good review. I think I'll get one of these for my Class B. Probably use propane only since it will be stored in the back of the van. Less gas fumes and the Sprinter (Sanctuary) comes with a propane hookup with the on-broad propane tank (24 lbs). That'll make a great backup since the propane is already there. Thanks.

      The size and power output of these is impressive! The only downside is the smaller fuel tank, but it isn’t even that big of a deal :) thanks for watching! If you do buy, be sure to use the link in the description!!

    To put things into context, I have two Honda EU 2000i generators in parallel. Each Honda EU2000i generator has a continuous running load rating of 1,600 watts so a pair in parallel is capable of 3,200 watts continuous. This one Genmax is on par with my pair of Honda generators as far as power output yet is in the same ballpark in size & weight as one Honda EU2000i generator. Add the fact the Genmax comes dual fuel ready, comes standard with a wheel kit, and comes with a 30 amp twistlock as well as an RV adapter right out of the box all while also having longer run times is just crazy. If I wasn't looking to upgrade to an inverter generator capable of outputting 220v I would seriously consider this Genmax generator to replace my two Honda generators. I do have to admit that I am not a fan of the looks of this generator (there are also too many stickers stuck all over it as well) plus the wheel kit doesn't look too sturdy. All in though, this is a very promising-looking generator.

    • @theconnectedcamper
      @theconnectedcamper  Рік тому +2

      So I will say, the shape of this generator is odd, but the stickers are all very useful. I can't find one sticker on it that doesn't have useful information about maintenance or use. I prefer this as I don't want to lug around the manual or google for information on how to use it.
      The wheel kit looks small, but it is very good and better than most. The wheels themselves aren't rigid so they can move around based on the terrain they are on.
      All in all, after 50 hours on this machine, I'm very impressed with the power output and the fuel consumption.

      The Genmax is 145 cc's. The combined Honda's are 200 cc's. The Genmax will have to run at much higher rpm to put out the rated power. It will also be noisier...

    • @MrNightro
      @MrNightro Рік тому

      @@rickbraden4272 Not too sure the one Genmax would be louder than two Honda EU2000i generators due to adding the 2nd Honda would increase the SPL by 3db which is the threshold of a noticeable increase of SPL in human hearing. So for the Genmax to be perceivably louder than two Honda EU200i then the Genmax would have to be a minimum of 6db louder than a single EU2000i generator. However, the Genmax GM3500iAED measures in around 60db @ 23' under half load so it is pretty much in line with what a single Honda EU2000i also measures at under load. This means a single Genmax GM3500i AED will not be louder than a pair of Honda EU2000i.

    Great video, very well presented. Can you give a estimate on how long you're getting on a tank of fuel? I know load will play a big factor, but I just read some reviews that the gas consumption was terrible.

    • @theconnectedcamper
      @theconnectedcamper  Рік тому

      Gas consumption isn't terrible, with a 25% load I would say it would get about 12-16 hours of runtime. With a 50% load I got about 8 hours of runtime. The tank is small on it, which is why the runtime is lower than others like Wen which weigh about 30 pounds heavier.

    Any information about warranty, I have seen this machine on some other videos but I can't find anything about their warranty. I like the weight to watts feature, I don't want to wrestle a 100+ lb machine into my truck and I love the dual fuel. Good video, thanks.

    • @theconnectedcamper
      @theconnectedcamper  Рік тому

      Thanks for the comment Russ! The warranty on this is 1 year parts and labor. The thing is in my experience with portable generator warranty is that it is very limited in what they cover as well as can have extensive wait times for service. I can say in the year I've owned this I've only had to perform normal maintenance and I'm at almost 200 hours on my unit. Proper maintenance and non-ethanol gas goes a long way :)

  • @stevesparamotoringadventur7874

    Thank you for the info. I'm in the hunt for a generator to run a 13500 btu generator and this is very appealing with the dual fuel and remote start. Are you still impressed with the unit after some run time? I don't think I have soft start on my ac unit but hoping this is still sufficient. I'm a noob when it comes to trailers!

    • @theconnectedcamper
      @theconnectedcamper  Рік тому +1

      Awesome, for a 13.5k BTU, this should do the job, but I would still suggest looking into a soft start. It makes a world of difference, and is only 4 wires to install. It looks daunting, but is only a 30 minute job.
      As for my longer term impression of this unit, it is the only one I take camping now and has accumulated over 100 hours. It's a solid machine and I used it just this weekend on several cool mornings where it was sub 32 degrees F and it started up easily every time with the electric start. I only used it to top up my batteries this weekend so it didn't have to work too hard. A month ago I did use it to run my AC for 60 hours straight and it did great. Gave it a full synthetic oil change at the end of the weekend and it was ready to go again. Thanks for the watch and the comment! :)

    I bought this model last year and it ran great. I started it 6 months later and the electric start does not work. Yes I made sure all the plugs were correctly plugged in. I unplugged the battery and plugged it back in and white electric smoke came out. I bought the charger made for this battery and it did not do a thing. I have tried to find a new battery and no joy. So no more electric start anymore. Made in China comes with it's issues. They make a charger to sell but not a new battery.

    It isn't so much as to pick up an existing load, have the generator running on LP and then let the A/C kick in, IF you don't have an easystart on your A/C unit, I'd be willing to bet that the initial amp draw may stall the generator...

    • @theconnectedcamper
      @theconnectedcamper  Рік тому

      I do have a soft start installed and it does not stall the generator. Without the soft start, I would wager the amperage on starting would overload the generator.
