I have been a chef for over 20 years and no one can bring a smile to my face faster than Jaques! Such a zeal and joy for life. Thank you for this series!
You can see the little boy in him shining through here as he's cooking. Watch his slight mannerisms and you can tell he's getting more and more excited as he's reminded of his mother cooking those eggs for him.
I just made this for a special breakfast. I cannot tell you guys how positively divine it was. You have got to try this. Definitely one of my new favorite dishes ever!
Gabriel Myre Claudine was always good for making yummy noises and for going to get things. She'd also explain some things but I usually tuned out when she did that.
I have watched Chef Pepin as he aged and have so enjoyed every stage, learned so much. This video, where he is older moved me to tears. I lost my father a couple of years ago he was about the same age as Jacques is in this video. My father's hands, like Jacques, were age worn but so deft and strong. He learned to cook from his mother as well and when I cooked with him there was a running commentary of memories of her kitchen, his father's garden as well as life lessons about hard work and attention to detail. Tony Pezzullo cooked the simple, delicious southern Italian food he grew up on. One of my last memories was of him cooking his eggplant parmigiana with a splendid marinara. When he finished putting it in the oven, he turned to me and said, "there, my mother's mulignan, she would be proud of me."
How wonderful. Those eggs with a crab cake or salmon croquet, slice of heirloom tomato, torn crust of baguette and stem of chardonnay. Heaven at the table.
Since I was a kid I've seen all adult stages of this man, his essence(peaceful personality and loving way of teaching) along with his cooking mastery is intact...
There’s literally nothing better in any video I’ve watched in the tube then Jacques saying his mother would be proud. Man I love when he says that. Yes I’m here 7 months later to say it again.
