  • This is the third video in a series intended to follow my steps through the process of receiving a kidney transplant. In this video, I talk about the surgery itself and what the procedure was like, especially in the times of COVID-19.
From my early morning arrival on the day of surgery to discharge several days later, this video journal walks through the steps leading up to the surgery and the aftermath. The amazing team at the Cleveland Clinic did an exceptional job in making this process as smooth and seamless as possible and I can't thank their medical professionals enough for their efforts.
As of the writing of this description, I am two weeks removed from my surgery and progressing nicely in my recovery. My kidney function has improved significantly and my body has responded favorably to my new kidney as well. I will go in-depth about some of those specific changes in part four of this video series which will be focused on the recovery portion of the process and will be completed when I get closer to hitting my three month milestone.
    ----------------------------------------------
My name is Matt Mramer and I was diagnosed with a rare form of kidney disease called Alport's Syndrome when I was a young child. I've known for most of my life that I would someday need a kidney transplant and with that day quickly approaching, I started looking into what to expect. Sadly, while I found plenty of information about the surgery itself along with basic facts about transplant, I didn't find much information about what this experience would be like from the perspective of a kidney patient.
These videos are meant to help anyone who might be in a similar situation who is looking to find out more about what a kidney transplant is like, from start to finish. If anyone sees these videos and has questions or just wants a friend who understands what it's like to be in this position, please feel free to reach out to me. We're all in this together!
My email is mramer33@yahoo.com and I look forward to being able to help, even if it's just one person. We're all in this together!
