Isabelle main here. So much of this is applicable, and oddly enough, when I get frustrated, I just remember a couple of the points here you made (which I came to the same conclusion on) and it actually helps me refocus mid-fight. It's even helped me reverse 3-0 some people. So can add a point of data to your claims in the video. In particular, the bit about trying to minimize your character's glaring weaknesses helps you find alternative game plans to stop the cavalcade of failure that comes from sticking to your tried-and-true stuff that a higher-tier character can simply outplay. You have to start acting weird and get out of your comfort zone, thinking more about your opponent's weaknesses on the moves they're using to shut you out, and if you have any tools or strategies to overcome them. But yeah. As you said, it's gotta be done for the love of the character. I'm not good enough to have been established as, well, anything really, but it seems like we have similar motivations.
I've been jumping around with several characters all over the tier list, and I'm settling on Diddy Kong, a mid/high tier. Something I find surprisingly helpful against high/top tiers is playing to help to their strengths to the point where they are guaranteed to abuse them, thus suddenly flipping the match in your favor, as they will probably not be ready to adjust to such an odd strategy. It's pretty similar to bait and punish but not quite the same. For example, Ike is always going to be putting out his massive Nair, bc that's the only way he can be effective. So let him do it as much as he wants, then force a mis-spaced one on shield and punish it, or use a projectile to catch and punish his landing. Beat linear neutral strategies
I've always liked Ganondorf as a kid, playing Melee and Brawl not even knowing what the word esport meant or that people played each other competitively. I picked him up again when i literally learned in like 2016 that smash was still being played and learned about it, but didn't own another smash game until Ultimate came out, and that's when i really picked him up (along with Ike under the same exact circumstances). Though i still play a bit of Ike, i prefer playing Ganondorf, even in tournaments knowing damn well I'd have a better chance of winning with Ike or another character i play with. I absolutely love him as a character, and regardless of having a goal of being the best Ganon in SE Virginia (not too far away from that, i think), i play him for my love of playing him. I've taken my lessons from losing with him (and losing a lot in life) to help me think better of myself, so don't put yourself down or quit every time you lose, all you need to do is learn what you did wrong and use that to better yourself, and at the end of the day, you may have a low tier character, but you'll walk away with a high tier attitude.
I know your pain, I main (or at least Co-Main) Kirby in every Smash game and outside of 64 he's always been in the Lower-Mid Tier to Bottom Tier range. Also thanks for this, great video

I’ve had it tough as a Kirby main and Character loyalist, with him being Trash once again...idk how deep your loyalty goes but mine is beyond deep...like, it’s my life of gaming; come from a family of gamers, got a hand me down game boy when I was 5, Kirby dreamland was the first game I EVER beat. Kirby has been and always will be my favorite VG series, and since he’s in smash I’d love to represent him since I’ve never played Smash at locals (started competitively in ssb4). I’ve had it rough lately, I’m consistently top 5 in Tucson, or maybe #6, but I really have been down in the dumps since Kirby got nothing in v3.0 or v3.1.0, making a video soon, and while I understood and recognized everything in this video before I watched it, it was just nice to hear it again from someone else.
It sucks that even with all the help he got, Ganon is a mid-tier at best in this game. That ain’t gonna stop me from stomping on top tier mains tho. Great stuff Verm!

Dude. So glad you’re back! Love your videos. Also, this was so freaking motivating. I play Luigi and everyone around me constantly compares him to Sm4sh and says “he’s trash.” So I’ve had a lot of questions of: “why do I even play him,” “I need a secondary to even have a chance,” “I don’t even know how good I am because I main a mid to low tier.” Amazing advice. Sticking with my character. He’s why I play smash, and I adore playing him in tournaments, even when I get so much doubt from people.
Lately I've been hooked to your channel watching pretty much every video. You sound like a really smart guy, but I guess that's the kind of person you have to be to win with Ganondorf.
i’ve been going through a character crisis recently since i’m a mac main. this video helped me see things in a new perspective and will hopefully help my mindset when playing and picking my characters. thank you.
I recently had a crisis with Kirby my low tier main and honestly I found it helpful to pick up a few mid tiers like 3D and bowser jr. as secondaries, choosing a character with similar attributes but is bigger all around and a character that’s better at edge guarding and landing, Kirby’s big boy flaws, allowed me to grow overall as an ultimate player while still being able to grow in areas that helped me learn more about my main
Hey, this is the first video I've seen from you and I really enjoy the way you talk about the game and the mindset. Looking forward to seeing more of your content!

I’m a Plant main and I would call myself decent at the game, I don’t play online too often but when I did I realized that I wasn’t playing too well and I got super frustrated. But through this video and other that mainly focus around plant, that I have been him in way that his kit isn’t focused around. I like combo heavy characters that are good in the air and have good aerials, but plant isn’t like that so I tried to incorporate that play style into him and it just didn’t work. It was when I started playing him around his kit I found that I was not only using his side and down B’s more often, but ai also feel I’m getting better as a plant main and player as a whole. Thanks Man! 😁
Oh that's crazy, I used to live in Meridian! I wish I could've had the chance to play you if I were still back home. But yeah, I'll say I main Kirby and he is in no way high tier. Your words were very true and bluntly honest. In Ultimate I've also picked up Ness and Pika but Kirbs is dear to me. One problem you didn't mention is unless you have a general reputation you are far less likely to get willing participants to give you practice with your low tier. I've had a terrible time personally against ZSS but because I like to play Kirby none of the ZSS players in my area are willing to give me the time and practice to learn the matchup
Ive been maining kirby since brawl. Only been top tier in 64 which i haven’t played. In brawl kirby was upper mid tier yeah but in a game where there were like only 4 characters seriously viable everything else seems low tier. It has been tough but hey kirby is fun to play none the less
I had watched this video when it just came out, and I need motivation to keep playing the character I loved, Rosalina, altough she was nerfed so hard to be even called "bottom tier" in vanilla ultimate. I had tried "real characters" like Lucina, Palutena, Snake or Pokemon Trainer right after game's release, but none of them was good enough for me like Rosalina. I kept playing her altough she was a really flawed character and I've been graced with gradual amazing buffs throughout the patches up to the point where she is right now (before steve's patch), a legit underrated high tier. I can't imagine myself maining anyone else right now
"By the nature of low tiers, no matter how amazing you are, you will eventually hit their absolute skill ceiling." I have to disagree with this one because not all low tiers are bad because of their low skill ceiling. The two that immediately come to mind are Rosalina and Luma and the Ice Climbers. These two characters both have some insane tech that can theoretically be used to crazy effect, but they're still bad because that tech is essentially required to compete with other characters. They're not bad because they have a low skill ceiling, they're bad because their skill floor is so far sunken in to the ground that it takes a massive amount of work to catch up to the top tiers. (And yeah, I know that eventually every character will hit their skill ceiling. It was just framed in the video as a problem unique to low tiers, and that's what I'm addressing)
I actually think Ganon is pretty solid in this game. He has large hitboxes, broken nair, heavy weight, and has lots of damage and kill power. His main downfall is his speed, but other than that he is pretty good in ultimate
Yeah but his speed is a pretty freaking big flaw. I actually think we're going to see Ganon drop off even further as other characters get optimized but Ganon gets maxed out.
As people have learned the game and the meta has evolved, it's clear that his low overall mobility, bad frame data, and lack of any toolbox or gimmicks (no hyper armor like little mac on all his smash attacks, no projectiles, no counters/reflects, nothing of the sort).. he's actually z-tier.. below everyone else. Even in a tier all on his own below Little Mac. He doesn't have a single truly positive match up.. it's hard to even say he has any even match ups. At best, he has a few match ups where it's kind of maybe even.
As an Isabelle main, I kept losing from event tournament after tournament. I'm starting rage a little bit ago and now with my left joycon started drifting, I'm having a bad night. And I'm casual!
How are you combo breaking with Ganondorf? He doesn't have a combo breaker... does he? If he did, that would be life changing and would move him from z-tier straight to mid-tier.. but I'm pretty sure he doesn't.
Not that Marth is low tier but, what should I do when my hits just refuse to hit people? I don't get tippers when I should, and things are just hella unreliable. Even with improved spacing I run into that problem. I have complained about him a lot (and still do) but I just want to take pride in my character choice. Honestly, I think Ganon is a better character than Marth...
Yeah, I main primarily dedede and Ridley, and with dedede sometimes I think that I'm an idiot for going with the character with the slowest attacks and the easiest to kill character with Ridley, but I ended up getting used to it, and it doesn't matter because dedede is still my *thicc boi.*
Call me stubborn, but I refuse to believe that Ganondorf is low tier in Ultimate. In Smash 4, I picked him up as a secondary alongside Luigi way back in early 2015 and since then, he's become my dedicated main (I don't really play Luigi anymore despite my username). Even in Smash 4, I considered him to be highly underrated thanks to his great range, deceptive frame data on most of his moves, and fantastic shield pressure capabilities especially coming from his aerials. The fact that he also had one of, if not the best dash attack in the game was the icing on the cake and led me to personally place him as a mid tier in spite of his shortcomings. When Ultimate was finally revealed at last year's E3 and we got a glimpse into how drastically Ganondorf was improved, I was naturally over the moon. This excitement never subsided and even became stronger as the game released and I finally got my hands on Ganondorf to try him out myself. The combination of his much-needed landing lag buffs as well as having even greater damage output across the board made his shield pressure all the more deadly, which directly enhanced his fear factor and forced quick and often rash decisions out of shield as a result. Everyone, even top tiers are susceptible to this and it's what separates getting reads from just running up to your opponent and randomly charging a forward smash in the opposite direction without any prior conditioning. I won't pretend like he doesn't have flaws, most notably his exploitable recovery and poor disadvantage state, but I just feel as though the vast majority of the Smash community only focuses on these flaws and disregards his amazing strengths as being either nebulous or straight up insignificant. The truth is, if you can get inside your opponent's head, Ganondorf is the best character in the game at the losing matchup because all it takes is a slight nudge in momentum and suddenly your opponent sustains 80% if not more. While some characters will win neutral against a seasoned Ganondorf in the hands of a competent player more often than not, mistakes are inevitable and when Ganondorf only needs to win 2 or 3 neutral exchanges to take a stock, he'll always be a threat no matter what matchup he finds himself in (except for the rats *sigh* ). With all that said, I truly believe that he's a low high tier and no, I don't just play online. :P
Is he a top 30 character in Ultimate? No, not even close. Is he bottom 10? Absolutley not! I understand he's not that good, but in ultimate he's the most viable he's ever been. Seriously, he's a pretty good counter pick character. It boggles my mind that people still shit on him.
Verm can't count past 2 because Ganondorf mains can't imagine beyond that many hits per stock.
0:08
Why would need a long combo when you can do 50% in a single 3 to 4 hit combo?
absurd potato Why learn a character when you can pick the one who can kill anything by breathing on his opponents?
Did you think nair wasn't listening

I'm actually a zelda main (despite the pfp) I went to locals and everyone was using top tiers, I felt discouraged about winning because I use a low tier character
I feel much better now, thx man!
Thanks Man! 😁
This is very helpful as a mewtwo main. Keep ul the good work
is that chrono music i hear? niiiice
Every not I pray every night that do to heavy buffs villager will cause him to rise to the high tier.
I'm always part of the villager gang 🙏
Villy gang
@@RightyRonaldo indeed god bless
Praise be daddy Verm
I really need you to just be my guidance in life. This addresses so many problems people have and explains it in a very easily followed way. 👍
Good to see you back
Thanks for this
Ive been maining kirby since brawl. Only been top tier in 64 which i haven’t played. In brawl kirby was upper mid tier yeah but in a game where there were like only 4 characters seriously viable everything else seems low tier. It has been tough but hey kirby is fun to play none the less
As a Piranha Plant main, this really helped.
A ganon mains motto: "I am bad. And thats good. I will never be good. And that's not bad." No one I'd rather be than me.
This is a very useful video. Thanks man
I had watched this video when it just came out, and I need motivation to keep playing the character I loved, Rosalina, altough she was nerfed so hard to be even called "bottom tier" in vanilla ultimate. I can't imagine myself maining anyone else right now
"By the nature of low tiers, no matter how amazing you are, you will eventually hit their absolute skill ceiling."
I have to disagree with this one because not all low tiers are bad because of their low skill ceiling.
I came for smash advice
Left with life advice
Wait dose that mean my life is low tier :(
LoL
As a puff main thank you for these good tips
I like the Chrono Cross tribute
You're videos are so cerebral
Just teach us tech and mind games and how to kick ass
Please, daddy
Is that Chrono Cross music?
My friend needs to see this
As an Isabelle main, I kept losing from event tournament after tournament. I'm starting rage a little bit ago and now with my left joycon started drifting, I'm having a bad night. And I'm casual!
Tip 3 helped me out a lot
I feel this as an Isabelle main.
Welcome back!
Thank you so much for these Videos!
ok but what happened at :36 though. where you still invulnerable from the missed tech roll?
Winning? Hah the fear of unexpected hit exchangers and interrupting combos moves is what fills me my friends hates my ganondorf
How are you combo breaking with Ganondorf? He doesn't have a combo breaker... does he? If he did, that would be life changing and would move him from z-tier straight to mid-tier.. but I'm pretty sure he doesn't.
As a Lucario main, thank you.
Lol okay buddy.
Pick Lucina, it’s literally Marth with long hair
Video was a lot easier to follow along, and a lot of good wisdom
The only low thing I see is your character after Ganon spikes them at 20%.
Sadly, Ganondorf is actually z-tier.. lower than low..
You were at Crown? Man, more sad I missed it. 😔
What's the song name?
Even I who mains a Mid Tier ( Hero ) can learn from this.
luck
...now everything makes sense. Thank you
VERM! TOP VIDEO THANK YOU BUT!
SONG (OST) NAME???
The only Ganon main who’ll admit that he’s bad
Before I set I do usually say "Man cant wait to lose!"
Great video!
When you apply this outlook even though you main a high-tier, because you just suck at the game.....feelsbadman
Just came back to let you know the 4th Pikmin game is coming out.
4:33 verm please
