The OG have 161 eps and I'm also planning to watch it after the remake is done. But the down side of the OG is that, they finished the show before the manga ends, with the remake we will probably get the actual ending.
This is based on a manga from one of the greats, rumiko Takahashi. Her best known series in the US is Inuyasha, but she’s been making big hit series in Japan since the late 70s, her popularity extends to Europe as well. Starting in 1978 I don’t think she’s gone more than 1 year without at least working on one continuously published manga, and for seven years she was doing two (though one of them was a monthly series). Her current series, Mao, doesn’t have an anime yet, but that’s really the only one: Urusei Yatsura: 240 episodes (including 2022 remake) Maison Ikkoku: 96 episodes Ranma 1/2: 161 episodes (plus however many the remake ends up with) Inuyasha: 193 episodes (including Inuyasha Final Act) Rin-ne: 75 episodes Not even counting the OVAs and Movies based on her work, or the Inuyasha sequel Yasahime. She was the richest woman in Japan at one point.
18:16 This show also has ki for every real martial artists. The wooden sword is being swung with a force of ki behind it. It’s just showing us that Kuno does know real martial arts and is not just a clown.
Ranma's hair doesn't change color in the manga the OG anime added the changing hair to better tell boy & girl Ranma apart. This look became iconic and it has stuck with the character ever since Because of this no character will acknowledge the hair change
@@kitsunexans what are you talking about? Male and Female Ranma clearly have the same hair colour in the manga. No distinction between them, both just black.
@@BalrogQuote I think this changed at some point. While it's definitely true they have the same colour of hair in the manga(from what I could see). But some manga art depicts Ranma with pink hair. Starting to remind me of Yugi and his hair and eye colour changing constantly.
Good episode. It added a few jokes the original series did not have. Also, the episode did a good job of condensing two episodes into one. The plot for this episode in the original series was episode two and three. Do not worry. This episode did a far better job with less time. If the filler episodes were ignored, and the manga episodes condensed. The plot lines of the full manga series could be done in fifty to sixty episodes. If some of the single chapter episodes are animated, seventy episodes or so. Still, that is only a few seasons.
Ranma 1/2 is officially known as the Love Dodecahedron. Both Ranma and Akane have at least half a dozen pursuers each, Ranma from both sexes. Many of those pursuers are themselves pursued by admirers that would be sure their interest would return their feelings if not for Ranma/Akane/that pigtailed girl. Dr. Tofu is in his early to mid twenties, although I hope they specifically say he is college age in this version. The question is whether he is a licensed physician or a chiropractor. He is in love with EDITED to remove spoiler let's just say the age difference is a problem. Akane has a teenage crush. It's the main reason she rejects the boys at school and isn't interested in Ranma. And of course the boys at Furinkan aren't making themselves look any good in comparison either.
I've seen the original series and one of the more memorable aspects of the show is it's soundtrack. There's so many little pieces of music that just fits in the scene so well. And the cute dancing intro of all the characters dancing in-sync with each other was great.
Yes! If I were to change anything about the remake, it would be to have a version with more of the original music. Not that the new music is bad, it just seems unnecessary to have changed it all so much. The _Ranma 1/2 Music Ironman Collection_ is such a treasure trove.
So, little bit of a translation issue in the subtitles. When talking about Dr.Tofu And Ranma says to Akane: “ don’t you hate men?” When the schoolyard rushes her she’s supposed to say “ I hate…BOYS!” Making the distinction between “boys” vs “ men”. But the subtitles just have her saying “ i hate men”. Which is untrue of her character. 😅
You don’t have to watch the OG Season 1 AGAIN, the remake is almost shot-for-shot, both taken from the manga, and many of the OG voices returned. You’re not missing much. If withdrawal gives you an urge to watch the REST of the OG 90’s series, S2 and up are currently streaming subbed and dubbed on a channel that sounds like “2B”. And fair warning: It gets sillier. 😂
Thanks for the tip, it'd be fun to see the original S1 at some point even if it's mostly the same as the remake. As for where to get it, it's also available on Hulu/Dis+ which we have.
I’ve been watching the old show alongside the new one each week. This episode’s story was broken down into two episodes so its episodes 2 & 3 in the old show. Some jokes are added and they take their time setting the mood/atmosphere more for a few scenes to either subvert it later as a joke or to reinforce certain aspects. This episode was really good too so for now I’m really enjoying both. Though if there’s one thing the old show definitely did better, it’s Akane’s fight scene against all her suitors. That scene is iconic in the old one.
Not only is the morning attack of the hentai horde weird... but it's been happening EVERY DAY since the start of term. (There, see? I spoiled nothing last ep.)
So they didn't say it but the guy with the 🎤 is a new character to the series they added. Something they took out was kuno saying his age along with class and title. He's a selfish and stupid guy. Also Dr tofu is the doctor the tendo family visit. We'll find out more about him later
They pretty faithfully recreated the mini-recap at the beginning of the episode from the original anime. While I like they did it once... I hope they don't keep it up... It's not long but it's time that could go to establishing shots or introspection or other something else. If this is a 24 episode season, that amount of time is almost an episode in itself.

Absolutely true. That was one of the points. Only specific situations can a woman beat the average male. The other point was that men will often do ANYTHING for vagina.
16:52 I don't know, If there was no physical difference between the sexes, they wouldn't separate them in sports, right? So, it's not fair for Akane to face the male Ranma.
I am literally saying that very few women can beat men... It takes, generally, well trained women to have a chance at beating an average dude in a fight. A trained man will, generally and most often, beat a trained woman. This is indeed due to physical differences. As for Ranma V. Akane, this is fantastical fiction and we shouldn't take it that seriously. That's why I made the comments with comedy.
Akane would want to challenge herself against a man, even knowing that she has the disadvantage. Since Ranma turns into a girl though, this shouldn't be an issue. Of course there's a difference between a challenge and fighting a duel for a date
Ohhhh... The saying is something I use to express when people get upset at you or bring up irrelevant points in a discussion. For example: I say "President Obama ordered the death of American citizens (definitely bad guy terrorists but that's besides the point) abroad without due process or trial. That is illegal and unconstitutional." Which totally happened BTW, And they respond "oh, so we should just let terrorists kill people and get away with it?" No... But there's due process to be had in order to capture and punish an American criminal. In this context, I mentioned gaming smack talking and "hot girl" gamers in the first episode reaction. Some people brought up things that I explicitly condemned or ignored how those kinds of streamers/creators hurt other creators, including female ones that don't use predatory practices to get money. They also tried to say it's men's fault those creators exist... Which had some validity, but that's like blaming addicts and supporting dealers...
yes, in the manga change color, ist more in the front of the mangas you can see boya and girl at same time, in the manga is black beacuse rumiko dont use shades to make diferent tones
She does use shades. Akemi from Maison Ikkoku has red hair in all colour art, same with Rinne from RINNE. Both characters have gray hair in the black&white mangas. In Ranma itself, there are characters meant to have brown hair , they get screentoned hair too. Like Azusa and Mikado from the skating arc.

Nothing problematic was on screen. No one got lectured. I made a joke about what men will do for vagina... I showed how few and very specific woman can beat a "regular dude" (or disabled 😆). Some people seem to be having issues accepting that they too would do just about anything for vagina... I mean, only gay dudes don't want it. Lesbians want it, bisexual men and women want it, heterosexual men want it... It's a powerful thing.
