Wonderful travel photos! I agree that ASOIAF and First Law are completely different in style and focus. They almost seem like different fantasy subgenres though they’re often lumped under the “grimdark” label. I appreciated hearing your thoughts on your recent reads, and I’m happy you’re back! 😊

@@Rhand007 Good point about the relativity of what is affordable. Even at $60 or $70, a special edition from TBB is still not within the budget for a lot of people. I don’t think I’ve ever spent that much on a book myself. I won’t even think about special editions from other presses that range in the hundreds of dollars or even $1,000.

Just to let you know that I have finished and thoroughly enjoyed your trilogy last month. I bought the paperbacks which is rare for me to buy physical books. I loved the philosophical turn the last book took. I've just finished Song of the Mysteries and I do agree that WOLAS is a top ten series. I think that similar to Malazan it can be held up against any literature. The only problem I have is the prose flows so well that I've read a paragraph and my mind has just flown away and lost the story which is great because I have to read it again😂

Having recently read both The Faithful and The Fallen and The Bound and The Broken series, I couldn’t agree more with the comparison between the two. Cahill’s prose definitely progresses from book to book. I think you will particularly enjoy Of War and Ruin.

Dear Philip, there is a very good podcast on UA-cam, Parker's Pensées, which mainly deals with topics related to philosophy and religion, but has recently had some episodes on science fiction and fantasy. This Parker is a very likeable guy and just now he had an episode with Tolkien UA-camr Jess of the Shire in which the two of them touched on some very exciting questions about Tolkien's philosophical implications and secondary creation in fantastic literature. It occurred to me that it could be very enlightening if Parker were to discuss Tolkien's famous essay "On fairy stories" with you in a future episode. It's actually a text that I think has been under-appreciated. Anyway, I wrote my idea in the comments and Parker seems to like it. So if he contacts you any time soon, you know who has so brutally ignored your busy schedule. But it would be nice if you could consider it anyway, as it would certainly be a valuable conversation. Also genuine question because I don’t like anime (I find it a bit cringe and cheesy) but im wondering how you seem to be such a huge fan of One Piece? I don’t mean this rudely, I am thinking of trying it out so im wondering how someone with such polished taste as u deals with the humor / characterization since I hear it can be sometimes really goofy and childish. So im wondering how u manage to enjoy despite all that cuz I have a weird block against anime that I really wanna overcome
@@Srbthmlnsmth To be honest, I love the goofiness - I laugh more when reading One Piece than I’ve ever laughed while reading. I guess I just enjoy embracing my inner child. 😊 But if you progress far enough, you’ll also see that One Piece deals with heavy themes and can instill major emotions. It’s amazing how the goofiness complements the big themes. All the best!

Dear Philip, there is a very good podcast on UA-cam, Parker's Pensées, which mainly deals with topics related to philosophy and religion, but has recently had some episodes on science fiction and fantasy. This Parker is a very likeable guy and just now he had an episode with Tolkien UA-camr Jess of the Shire in which the two of them touched on some very exciting questions about Tolkien's philosophical implications and secondary creation in fantastic literature. It occurred to me that it could be very enlightening if Parker were to discuss Tolkien's famous essay "On fairy stories" with you in a future episode. It's actually a text that I think has been under-appreciated. Anyway, I wrote my idea in the comments and Parker seems to like it. So if he contacts you any time soon, you know who has so brutally ignored your busy schedule. But it would be nice if you could consider it anyway, as it would certainly be a valuable conversation. I got so many great fantasy recs from u that I never found anywhere else so thank you!!! Also genuine question because I don’t like anime (I find it a bit cringe and cheesy) but im wondering how you seem to be such a huge fan of One Piece? I don’t mean this rudely, I am thinking of trying it out so im wondering how someone with such polished taste as u deals with the humor / characterization since I hear it can be sometimes really goofy and childish. So im wondering how u manage to enjoy despite all that cuz I have a weird block against anime that I really wanna overcome
@@Srbthmlnsmth To be honest, I love the goofiness - I laugh more when reading One Piece than I’ve ever laughed while reading. I guess I just enjoy embracing my inner child. 😊 But if you progress far enough, you’ll also see that One Piece deals with heavy themes and can instill major emotions. It’s amazing how the goofiness complements the big themes. All the best!

@@PhilipChaseTheBestofFantasy thanks!! I kinda struggled with Naruto which is supposed to be similar to One Piece for themes and age I guess but I’ll try this out (i just can’t deal with people yelling out their standpoints while fighting and it happens a lot lol)
