My dog died almost 2 years ago and i did not know that he died from bloat. His name was Duke and he was not eating. He kept breathing the air and not eating his dog food. I really miss Duke. He was a great dog and was a pitbull. He died when he was less than 1 year of age. RIP Duke.

I just lost my German Shepherd this morning,
He was 9 yrs old and now I know why I lost him,
He ate yesterday afternoon and was playing in the heat with my 2 other dogs right after eating, after about 2 hours, He started to have the exact same symptoms you just described. I woke up this morning at 5am and he was gone. I will use ur advise for my other dogs.
I asked about bloat preventative surgery (tacking intestines in place) & the amount the vet wanted to charge was crazy. Unfortunately I couldn't get surgery for my newest boxer Oshie. I looked into this surgery because w/ almost 95% certainty my previous boxer Drake died from bloat. I'm not a vet or any sort of professional but if you can afford the surgery I'd definitely get it done. Great tidbit of info:Your vet can do this surgery while they're spaying or neutering No need for 2 surgeries
PLEASE, TAKE THEM TO THE VET IMMEDIATELY !! I think my dog had this recently. I researched it extensively and could not find anything that matched the symptoms as closely as this video. I did bring her to the vet but they did not do x-rays or diagnose it. So I spent 36-40 sleepless hours with my dog literally believing she was going to die. Symptoms were expanded chest, stomach. She vomited multiple times the first hour or two until her guts were empty. Then Intermittent "dry heaving" , rapid, repeated heaving that sounded like a chain saw that was cranking but wouldn't start. This would go on for 1-2 minutes. I started massaging her chest and noticed incredibly rapid heart beat. It went from normal to 10 times the regular rate while she was heaving. I thought her heart was going to explode. I started hugging her, massaging her ribs, lungs and chest medium pressure and talked to her gently while this was happening. It helped calm her heart rate and heaving almost immediately. It was almost like I was "squishing" her stomach back to normal but not so hard as to hurt her. This was a big help in calming the fits/seizures but it did not cure the problem, nor did it decrease the frequency. So, massage her lungs, chest, belly with medium pressure while talking to her. It may have saved her life. Now that I know this is likely the issue, if it ever happens again she's going back to the vet immediately. I was terrified. I didn't eat, sleep or go anywhere. She was incredibly miserable and wouldn't eat, drink or even move unless I really encouraged her. She would lay down after 2-3 steps unless I kept her moving.
If it happens and you can’t get to a vet. Get you dog on his back so the legs are facing upwards and roll him back n forth side to side 5-8 times .
I didn't know you could do this. How does it help?

More of a cat person than a dog person, but I still like learning new things every day! I'd never heard of bloat before, so thank you for this video, maybe some day I can save the life of a friend's dog knowing this.

my dog got bloat today, vomiting, just once, 6 hours later his gums where white, not once did he cry or wince. he died. Happened so fast.
jamestoni If you cant get him to the vet 1 vet tech told me to force a flexible tube down the throat so that some of the stomach contents can be expelled..Emergency vets CHARGE $3000 ,,way too much for the average dog owner,,,Any worthwhile vet will wakeup & do the surgery to save your dogs life,,there is no way that they shouldrefuse to fix thisIt only takes an hour,

Great information! Dr. Wendy, calm down, don't be so nervous. I had some heaving with one of my dogs today then his eyes rolled top the back of his head, I thought he was leaving me. But then he was okay 10min later (I think he over heated) but it brought me to this video trying to search for clues...Dr Wendy seems almost as rattled as I was! But good info, keep up the good work!

@ShawnGameTV i dont know if its still going on, but what i hear is that the stomach can over turn on itsself.. its a really fatal thing... you should get him checked at the nearest vet dude. dont let your dog go through that pain =/

Recently lost my 11 year old German shepherd bitch to bloat, she started passing wind, then retching without producing anything, I knew about bloat and immediately checked her stomach, which I found had expanded and was hard like a drum. I immediately rushed her to the vet, where she was x rayed and it was found her large intestine and small intestine had both twisted. Due to her age and severity of the problem we made the heartbreaking decision to have her put to sleep. All this happened within an hour which shows how quickly this can occur and become deadly.
I feel so horrible for this lady, this happens to me once in a while, when I kno I have to speak /preform something from front to end with fluency.. It's like I got chased to the top of the Empire state building by a mad man yielding a knife.. and it happens faster then the blink of the eye, can't breath at all, and face gets so hot it radiates heat...

Yeah, her nervousness was making me incredibly anxious just watching. Not her fault, but mannnn that could have been done in another take. Especially when someone is likely going to watch this video if they're ALREADY afraid their dog might have bloat. This, while helpful, is definitely going to scare them even more.

my dogs not showing any of these symptoms other than his belly being larger than normal the last two days..
everything i’ve read doesn’t seem like he’s in life threatening danger but i am a little concerned since it is noticeable rounder and firmer.
he’s not in pain, doesn’t pant a lot or try to throw up. doesn’t whine or get in weird uncomfortable positions, his belly is just big?
with the virus going on i don’t know if any vets near me are open like that for me to just take him there with no appointment.
keeping an eye on him though even measured his belly today and going to do the same tomorrow to see if it’s any different.
think he’ll be fine but better safe than sorry

google user My dog is fine. His stomach is the same size as it was two months ago I think. Pretty sure he just gained a little weight, it’s a tiny bit hard to tell though as i never really thought about it till i was looking at his stomach two months ago.
he’s a standard poodle so his hair could also partake in how his belly looks.
He’s only 2 years old and is running around and stuff, not showing any weird symptoms. so i don’t see anything wrong with him.
But if your dog has any symptoms from the vid probably get in contact with a vet about what you can do at home if you can’t take them in.
even if it’s not a “flipped stomach” it could potentially be something underlying since your dog is on the older side too.
idk though cause i’m not a vet.

What if my dog had his stomach drained two times, but still was in much pain even being on pain med afterwards. He hasn't bloated in a while, but he is in much more pain than when he was bloated. Please help.

I just got a new German Shepard and I just started noticing that one side of his stomach is popping out more than the other so I don't know if it's because he's just fat or if it's the bloat I rub his stomach and try squeezing it really really lightly but he doesn't really do anything he doesn't cry or anything so I suppose that nothing is wrong with him and hopefully i'm right but i'm really worried

I just lost my HULK.On Aug 21 2018 of BLOAT IT HE DIED BEFORE SURGERY IT WAS NOTICE AT 7.am got to vet at 7.30 He pass at 8am(night b4 he was just find)
My dog is eating nicely kibble and then drink water but no pain no problem he walks also but he stomach area is looking like a human fat stomach like.

I was wondering if you recommended the prophylactic gastropexy to prevent torsion if the dog bloats. We are getting our Great Dane puppy in two weeks and my fiance and I would like a few opinions about this surgery. Thanks.
It's expensive but if i had a great Dane n could prevent something prone to 50% of that breed id go get it done any prevention wit animals i dont think it comes down to money but for so many sadly it does. But if ur gonna feed raw diet 100% i wouldnt bother really depends on a few things as its passed down check out if parents ever suffered from it etc. Risk wit Anastasia too but if it was me i personally wouldnt if i fed raw diet.
