i copied it exactly but didnt get the same outcome...this is rather confusing and a ton of math....how do you do all this math DURING your art and not mess up literaly everything? i ended up with the equivlent of a box for a human AND got 0 explanation as to how the anatomy actualy was....you dont explain how the anatomy is just where it is nore explaining how to draw it just where to....this video wasent very helpful....

At first when you were doing the realistic proportions I realized my art style pretty much goes against them because I draw men with more of an hourglass figure rather than having it somewhat straight, but I technically don't even draw normal humans, in conclusion I realized my art style is very stylized, amazing video! I leaned a lot from this

I learned to draw anatomy by watching a frog dissection video! I learned how the arms and legs are practically the same, just for different uses. You don't need to learn to draw the body from a human, I learned from a frog!! And one or two videos like this one 😂

I love drawing arms and legs as sticks first, and elbows and knees as sort of diamond shaped flat piramids showing where they bent and at what angle we are looking at that. If it's a fantasy character, i tend to incorporate that in their armour instead of erasing. There's also rieb cage+shoulders and the hips as trapezes and the head of course, the hands and feet and then I fill the gaps with flesh.

My little brother had bought an expensive book showing pretty much the entire human anatomy for sculpting. While detailed in many ways, it doesn't exactly give you a lot of written info, or give you full body proportions outside of just the head, ribcage, and hips.
While I think that book could be helpful for drawers who already have a baseline knowledge for drawing a rough sketch of body proportions, I don't think I can do much with the info in that book.
I never learned how to do a rough sketch of body proportions, or do them in different angles. I could only manage to draw things that I visually look at. If I tried to draw a full human from imagination, I'd usually just draw the body outright without the rough proportion shapes. I think I usually got a lot of the shapes of the body correct, but the proportions of various body parts would always be off. Thus I'd have to keep resketching that body part to adjust its size and angle.. Sometimes I'd eventually get it right, but sometimes I don't and I get frustrated and burnt out and stop drawing.
It would be nice to have reference sheets or a book with proportions shapes like this, with different angles. So I wouldn't have to look at a digital screen.

This was a really amazingly helpful tutorial. I really appreciate how you demonstrate doing this in a more fluid approximate sketch style using the drawn elements for measurements as it makes it much easier to quickly translate to your drawing than more “formal” approaches. The tips like how to form the calves, feet and arm angles were super helpful. I find these kind of videos that covers overall principles to consider so much more helpful than following a super detailed step by step drawing tutorial plus you drawing style is so inspirational as well. Thanks.

Only 2 years late XD. Seriously though, this has been a godsend. I've been more actively trying to teach myself how to draw (because college is kinda expensive, though it's still much cheaper here in the UK) because I wanna make my own comic, and this has been so helpful. So many 'tutorials' out there will often skip a lot of steps, simply because they assume you've got some level of knowledge before hand, be it drawing yourself or going to college for art, which isn't any fault of their own, but it makes it really hard for true beginners, like myself, who don't have that pre-existing knowledge on how to break things up, how to measure these different parts, etc. Super helpful and pretty easy to follow. It'll probably still be a slog, as I tend to draw more anthropomorphic style characters (mostly because my comfort character happens to be a werewolf XD), but even with just this video, it's a lot clearer now how the basic shapes can translate into proportions of more unnatural characters. Cheers for this!

That's so helpful because you can follow along and then at the end you have this worksheet style canvas where you have studied a concept and then written down notes on what you have done. This means you can refer to it later!! So helpful!
