Glad i live in Utah where i am about 25 minutes from shooting any distance i want in the mountains. I spent the last two evenings firing 60 rounds of Hornady 168 grain ELD ammo through my SCAR17S at 1,000 yard competition steel. I averaged a 33% hit ratio. It's not my ideal set up for the rifle but it's what i had right now. LOTS of very close misses. I think the rumors about the barrel quickly heating up and affecting group sizes is probably true. That said, i'm about 100% sure that when i ran data on this bullet/rifle combo years ago the bullets were going trans and then subsonic prior to reaching 1,000 yards. I'm not sure i buy into the whole "loss of stability" thing when rounds go transonic though. That being said, i felt some of the shots did some really odd things that i'm not sure i can blame on myself but won't rule it out either.
That's awesome! I have a SCAR17 with just a 3.5X ACOG and only shot out to 500yd before I ran out of 308. I know FN went with the slightly slower twist rate, because military uses 147gr. I'm surprised it likes the heavier 168gr too! Compared to other rifles, the SCAR 16 and 17 both have thinner barrels. So heat up faster, but also cool faster. The SCAR20 is a lot thicker of a barrel profile, so it maintains accuracy a bit longer, but it's of course meant to be shot prone. Always fun to test the accuracy of these tactical rifles that were never meant to be used as precision guns, but some are pretty darn accurate for what they are!
Was there in April. It is amazing. Coming back this summer. 3 hour drive but worth every minute.
We'll definitely be back too! I think it would be beautiful up there in the fall also.

@@WalterRitchey Yeah, if you're a support by fire element in combat and you're covering 5-600 yards.. it's a great platform.
