Weston Backcountry Range Splitboard 158 Review: First Impressions

- During my 1st day on the Weston Range Splitboard I share some of my first impressions. This directional twin splitboard with its modest effective edge to length ratio, a slightly narrower waist width, and tighter turning radius provides great control and edging while delivering smooth load and unload rebound pop while making jump turns, tail pressing through butters and down steeps.

Great review, it would be nice to know your height and weight if you're going to compare and reference board lengths though..
I want to be like you when I grow up 🙂
Hey Jere. Dont know if you remember but I did a guided tour with you as part of the Whiteroom crew in Hokkaido just before the world went to shite with Covid. Cant believe I found you here! Hope you are well. I'm in the market for a new split now the world is openning back up. Could you offer up a reccomendation? I've penciled in either a Weston Carbon Backwoods 163, Jones Solution 162W, or Brian Iguchi Pro Camber 162. I'm kind of leaning towards the Weston, but was wondering if you'd have some advice. Matt.
Yes! Hows it going? The Weston Carbon Backwoods is one of my go to splitters because of the weight and shape. Its low weight had its obvious advantages but its shape works great here because we ride deep pow a lot. With a shovel tip and slight taper shaper this thing really floats. While at the same time it can hold an edge and carves nicely.
Glad to hear from you and stay in touch through my mountain guide service Guided Exposure!

Just picked up a Backwoods Carbon. Since it seems you've put some solid mileage on yours, could you do a review of that one too?
Yes! Will do! I've been on it for a year now so seems to be the time for that.
Hi Jere I would like to know your opinion about the hard mode....I m sure that is much better for the uphill but I don t know about the descent ...thanks
For the most part plastic boots are a massive improvement. Time and time again I see huge advantages over soft boots on the uphill. If you're not planning to ride freestyle while on a tour, then plastic boots are a positive game changer.
