  • 15 years in the making. Multiple production delays. Shooting issues. COVID lockdown. Prithviraj's massive physical transformation which he had to do twice. And above all, shooting over 4-5 years in the harsh, unpredictable terrain of the desert.
Aadujeevitham or Goat Life has been through all the struggles one can think of...but is that enough to appreciate the film?

Being a malayali and someone who read the novel, I absolutely agree with your points. His imotional attachment to the goats were thr soul of the Novel. How he was taking care of them like babies, naming them, finding characteristics of each goats all these were in the Story. And expcially the last few jail shots, if you read the novel that jail portion itself can be shown as a one complete movie. The novel is vast, but here in the movie they concentrated more on the escape part. Which was in a way bit tiring..There is limitations but i stronlgy felt they should have showed more Goat scenes. For me it was like a faat forwarding..But a great Movie in all technical aspects and Acting etc...

The problem with Aadujeevitham the film for me was that the film was confused if its a survival thriller or a survival drama. The novel focuses 3/4th of it in the masara with the goats and camels and 1/4th in the escaping scenario. But the film divided these two portions equally. The emotional core of the story aadujeevitham lies with the relationship between Najeeb and the goats and how he transforms into one of the goats himself. They missed that opportunity in the film and focused more on the escaping portions just because it has some thrilling components in it.

    • @deepuharidas8414

I believe you may be interested in a full series rather than a movie. Please understand that a movie is limited to a 3-hour duration, making it challenging to encompass everything from a novel within that timeframe. If you desire a comprehensive portrayal of the novel, I recommend considering a full series that can cover all aspects of the story.but there is no full length series🤷

@@deepuharidas8414 but he said that he had felt that the emotional core of the novel lies in najeebs relationships with the goats. So he just said that he didn't feel the emotional connection because the movie now mostly focuses on surviving in the desert rather than actually connecting us to the emotional connection which he had with the goats. It may look off in context but thats what the novel is all about in his perspective. Infact that is very necessary because as said in the video, you won't really feel anything when najeeb looks at the goats when leaving because for that you need to show his affection towards the goats.

      @vaishaksuresh8555 2 місяці тому +3

@@deepuharidas8414 sorry. I think you did not understand what i meant. It could have been the same duration but instead of focusing more on the lenghthy escape portions, the duration of those portions could've been cut shorter so that we would get more duration to establish his reletionship with the goats. Being a big fan of the book, those portions were the majority and also the heart and soul of the story and the escaping scenario is very shortly told. The same could've been done with the film. Just my opinion.

For some reason I couldn't connect with Najeeb . Something was lost in the translation of the novel to the visual medium . They could have narrated the story in a linear fashion to create an emotional bond with the protagonist and to let the audience travel along with him. The second half was stretched beyond limits. We couldn't get into Najeeb's psyche and that's where the film lost its charm.

Part of the reason is his wife Amala paul character. The flashbacks were kind of annoying and out of place. His relationship with his young friend seemed more real.

I was totally emotionally engaged and connected. Fully worked. I haven't read the book though. I usually don't watch movies based on books if I've read the book and vice versa because they are two entirely different art forms. A film's craft is in its visual appeal and acting. The book can enter the characters' hearts, minds and souls like a movie cannot.

Every part of a movie can’t make happy for everyone and we already know it’s a real life journey of a Man and Blessy wanted to show us the most important human emotions and journey when a person stuck in a desert like that. For example if you take a Hollywood movie Cast Away , Tom Hanks done very well in that ,it’s not real life story and the director can take it anyway. But Adujeevitham is a real story and so to portray a real story it is a very big task for the director and if the book is followed movie must be 10 hours.we need to do logically well for the real a character movie

You cannot take the latter effort for granted. Aadujeevitham is brilliantly shot and solidly acted, but it focuses more on the scale of the story and had very little emotional impact on me. Regarding this filmmaking effort vs audience effort thing. I remember this anecdote involving a filmmaker and the late Rober Ebert; Once, a filmmaker texted Roger that he panned a film he spent two years making, and Roger replied, "And I spent (wasting) two hours of my life watching it."

The bonding with goats wasn't shown? There is a particular scene in which he shepherds those goats for the first time, after he finally accepts his situation in the desert. But as he doesn't know how to control the herd of goats, they run away to a far distance and he starts to panic. Seeing his distress, one small goat goes near and touches his leg and then starts calling out the far away goats. They all came back to him and seeing that goats accepted him as their new shepherd and it made things a little bit easy in his already tarnished life, he hugs that small goat as a gesture of thank you.
Not some, but most reviewers like you should not even be given the platform to criticize a film when you don't have the capacity to remember and understand the scenes from the movie, and just blatantly vomit your useless thoughts.

And the one I explained is not the only scene where he bonds. There are some scenes where he communicates even with camels but they are so blended with the situation that it's easy to miss. They have a whole story to tell, due to which the filmmakers can't emphasize only on the bonding. And in these limited number of major characters, before start of escape, goats were the only living beings who did not hurt him. All the more reason why he bid emotional farewell to goats. Imagine Oppenhiemer or Titanic or Manjumal boys without the music it presented, the last scene in Manjumal boys without Kanmani Anbodu.
Aadujeevitham with an ok music was still something very special. This is definitely a special movie, no doubt about it.

Prithviraj was struggling to show pain and suffering. This is the point we all remember old Mohanlal who mastered tragedy. Prithvi just escaped with makeup and technical capabilities of the movie crew. He is not suitable for this role. They should have casted Fafa. Not sure what was the great contribution of AR Rahman in that movie. Malayalam music directors could have done better .

i have watched the movie, due i determined to appreciate the director for spending all these years for a film. not even for prithviraj. and i have the exact same 100% opinion of Raunaq Mangottil. and what i believe is a ton of people watched movie with the same reason. i have watched the movies - seven years in tibet , the way back and other survival dramas. so the excitement of watching a desert crossing was not there. then the drama. the movie is lacking the drama.

There was a Scene in the Book that was cut from the film. The Character Najeeb (not the Real Person) envisioned by Benyamin based on the story of Najeeb (Real Person) has an instance where he has Intercourse with a Goat.
On the surface it feels like it's disgusting, but I assure you if you read that you won't feel disgust, instead you'll feel Sad and Depressed at the state of the Character (Again not the Real Person, this event is Fictional)
Because the wording and The accompanying art is pushing the idea that Najeeb (the Character) has lost all semblance of Individuality and humanity. He truly has become one among the Goats he herds. He loses track of time and his actions.
If there was something similar in the movie then it would have definitely given you the Emotional attachment you spoke of. Highly recommend you read the book

IT didn't work on me on the emotional engagement quotient and the part of where he becomes a slave was not that believable.the chapter transitioning was also abrupt and with over exposed interviews and schedules being charted for this film, we were over exposed to this film making process.
But the 2 point of yours to the moment of magic, that made total sense and this film works big time on that.
Plus gokuls and prithvi s incredible transformation and their acting were top notch.
    Great work man.

Sorry to say but this movie didn't connect with me at all and how much I tried to avoid compensation but cast away and life of pi or even Maryan frequently comes to my mind because the makers hype it up in such way BTW fun fact life of pi entirely shoot on a green screen inside a studio along with a CGI tiger plus with a debutant and that's movie and the performance feels more convincing then 16 years of hardwork.. sometimes smart work is more effective than unnecessary hardwork .

4:36 - slightly off topic but just a feedback that it’s high time we remember to say “he or she” and start to include women in the mix when addressing the paying audience. “Her time” and “she” is equally valuable too. Not remembering to do this can’t be and should not be normalised. In fact, one of the 2 celebrities in your shoot was a woman. I guess the director is a woman too. Imagine these women listening to your video and the audience being addressed as only “him”

I wanting to feel the slowness of a person transation I want to feel the repeatedly process of a tragic daily routine I can't feel that I didn't get that in this movie. 😢

I haven't read the novel but hearing almost everyone saying that the emotions evoked by Novel was absent..(sorry to say)seems quite absurd.. its like comparing Apples n Oranges... We can't expect Blessy to make similar stuff like Novel.. then why even make it?
Also, the fact that the escape part seemed stretched.. i think was deliberate for us to feel that frustration of when the road can be seen & oh my god the moment when we see the road..😍
I loved the movie.. i think this film really respected its audience expecting it to imagine the bond between goats & Najeeb by giving small dialogues like when he leaves them.. he mentions like someone like him would come to take care of them.. shows that despite living a life like hell.. he knows that these goats need someone to taken care of.. All I can say is that this film stayed with audiences like me n my family for almost 2-3 days after watching.. which in itself is quite an achievement!

If you look at much hyped RRR and bahubali , I think except the VFX team others role is not much. But people appreciated those actors and gave oscar to the music.
The hype bought them those awards.
Now look at ps1 and ps2 score , or aadujeevitham score. Music is integral part of the movie. Music dialogues characters. And such stories pushes genius like ARR to give something different from usual. Compare natu natu song with any random track of ps1 , ps2 and aadujeevitham. I still stay there is no need of oscar and even national award.
End of the day if audience are good and have taste , music like arr produces and movies like aadujeevitham come.
If you see this movie is flop in Telugu. because the region accepts only masala and same as bolloywood.
So one movie make all audience happy is not possible today.
