In my mind, this fight will be dependent on if Regis can cut off the ring or if Haney can use his speed and footwork to box on the back foot, take angles, and keep the fight on the outside. Haney’s chin was suspect at 135 and him moving up to 140 facing a puncher like Regis is a dangerous affair. That said Haney’s experience with Loma should pay dividends given that he’s fighting another southpaw. Interesting fight of cat and mouse can’t wait to see it. Side note: 2023 has been the best year of boxing I’ve seen in my life, fans are eating good😋

He has only fought 1 talented guy and that's Gamboa and not making any excuses but Gamboa hadn't fought for 2yrs. The size difference is obvious.

I am curious to see what Devin looks like at 140, since the size advantage that he has will be gone but his speed may be more evident. Was his lack of power due to his cutting weight or his tendency to neglect push off his back foot when he punches with his rear hand? And though his stamina hasn't been an issue , will he be even fresher when or if he reaches the later rounds? Will he have more punch resistance or struggle against heavier punchers? And importantly, will he game plan expertly, like he did against Loma, and bring a completely different approach and render our analyses inconsequential 😅?

I expect to see Haney lead with straight right then pivot around regis’ right shoulder, rinse and repeat. That’ll allow him to avoid that straight left cannon. Loma’s right handed so his right hand is stronger than his straight left which is why Haney moved to that side. Regis is a true southpaw.

One thing I notice with Prograis is he's often looking to bait the right hand. Relikh (shown here) caught him with it a few times, but Prograis was able to bait and counter it. The most notable being the left hand to the body that led to an eventual knockdown.
Regis is a solid counter puncher, but like it was mentioned... that's contingent upon engagement. When he has to create offense of his it can be a bit problematic due to his reach.
One thing about his jab. At first I thought it was just ineffectual. Then I noticed that sometimes he isn't always throwing it to make contact, but just looking to create traffic and also elicit a counter from his opponent (engagement) so he can offer a counter of his own.
It may sound " simple " but I believe whoever's going to be more successful in this fight is whomever understands and dictates the exchanges more often than not.
Exactly, if you rewatch the Taylor fight You’ll see that he’s pretty good with his jab when he actually uses it. Ultimately, I think Haney will be leading the fight for the first 7-8 rounds then Regis will catch up n stop him in about the 11th. Regis is pretty damn explosive and Haney isn’t the defensive Genius ppl make him out to be.

@dguitar3831 I agree with first half, second half is due to him being undisputed. An undisputed champion can demand a mandatory defense of a champion in other weight division. It's written into the rules. So I'm fine with it. Obviously criminal judging in the Loma fight aside, its what comes from being undisputed and I'm fine with it.

@@coachjoey22 Loma outlanded Haney round by round from round 2 through 11. By the end of the fight they had both thrown 500 punches, Haney landing 110, Loma landing 160. It was also obvious throughout the majority of the fight that Loma was both the aggressor and more effective striking. The only punch category that Haney landed more of was body shots, while getting outlanded my a large margin in jabs and power punches. On top of that one of the judges gave Haney round 10, a clear Loma round. So the best outcome he should have gotten was a draw, but it should definitely have been 7-5 Loma, if you really want to be generous to Haney. Deepstrike did a round by round analysis using slow motion cameras and ai to track punches thrown and landed, while also doing in between round statistics. It's free on UA-cam and Instagram. Haney should and will outbox Regis for the most part. The concern with Haney, unlike Shakur, is that he mainly used his legs and clinches for defense, not head movement. He seems to tire in Loma, kambosis and even Diaz fight and started th get touched. Regis is a old school throwback fighter who roughhouse fights with a lot of power. Devin will make Regis look like an amateur for the most part,but if he tires and unable to clinch, he doesn’t or at least hasn’t shown he can hurt anyone of note. The times Haney has looked vulnerable is when boxers just started brawling, then Haney resorts to hugging lol. But Haney has vastly improved in each fight, don't know if the brawling style will be as effective now
Prograis is not a good match-up for Haney the reason being Prograis doesn't throw enough punches he has more head movement than punches he doesn't have a good defense at all, he has a good overhand right that caught most of his opponents but Haney is too quick for him, I see Haney catching him with his speed and knocking him out.
Maybe it's just me but I think that Prograis has a decent chance of winning this fight though I would not make him the favorite. The problem is that he would have to really dominate to overcome what I would guess would be unfair scorecards in Haney's favor. I recommend reading the book of Romans and the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John), and watching Pastor Joseph Prince’s online sermons!
