What a performance by Eddie George against the Illini in '95. I remember watching that game on TV and was greatly impressed. Thanks for sharing the clip.
This game is AMAZING!! The SHOE back them w/ the temp lights left all those dark spots, Eddie going nuts, Pace destroying ppl, the "EDDIE" chant!!! WoW . OSU is special now but back then this just felt like Ohio State/BigTen football
I remember this game, I also remember watching in amazement over the fact that only 1 rush I believe was over 30 yards, all the rest of them were hard earned bull rushes for 3 yards.. 5 yards...10 yards. he was such a work horse.
@@fredleeland2464 eh, ray lewis said it himself, Eddie George was one of the best running backs he’s ever faced. That makes him of the greatest of all time in my book.
@@KH-jx1lo i can respect ray for that, especially when he actually played him But as a RB in the 90s and early 00s, the objective of many of them was to wear down the defense so he probably was the best at that from a power running perspective

@@KH-jx1lo it would work for a team thst wants to wear down the defense So like the Raiders, Cowboys, Vikings, Browns or Ravens would benefit from him But I doubt he would get a bunch of carries in today's NFL just cuz no one does anymore and that's what made him him 30 carries a game ain't it anymore except for D Henry
Froze my ass off in the "temporary" end zone stands, cheering for Eddie until the end. I don't think I warmed up until Sunday afternoon - but it was worth it!
I was at this game. My first ever Live football experience outside of little league. The atmosphere. I knew I was a Buckeye this day! But Eddie George was a man playing amongst children out there. I’ll never forget it.
What kills me is if Cooper had a clue as to how to beat that Team up North, like Tressel did, OSU plays for the national title in the polls four times instead of ZERO. Freakin Cooper.
pauliep3838 you forgot to mention the “glfalling asleep performances “ in bowl games. Damn that 1995 citrus bowl vs Alabama. The 1996 citrus bowl vs Tennessee.... the 1997 rose bowl saved his job
pauliep3838 you forgot to mention the “falling asleep performances in bowl games” 1995 citrus vs Alabama oh my gosh wherein freakin Williams on swing passes. 1996 Tennessee...the damn 1997 rose bowl saved his job
I've heard stories of pitchers back in the day throwing 200-300 pitch complete games, this was before my time, but when i hear stories like that and i see modern day pitchers not go more than 80-100 a game it blows my mind.... i do however remember the days when ball carriers would get 30-40 handoffs a game. It was smash mouth football all the way, and a guy who could carry that workload was valuable. I wonder if a youngster who watches this, and sees 36 carries?!, thinks the same thing since rbs dont usually get more than 15-20 touches per game now. These are the kind of feats that make Eddie George a legend now
Trey Sermon I think had 39 carries to break the record . 25 yrs is a helluva run for a team in the top 10 every single season . We win the Natty January ?? 2022 . 2022
Over 12:00 left when he came out! LG & FB set this record. How many yards before first contact? Not a big Ohio State fan, but this was beautiful smash mouth football.
Eddie is God to him. He'll Eddie gave nfl tge biz. Average 4.6 a yard and so on. Players know don't stand achance to many rules more games and tissue to cry on
I actually ran into Eddie George while he was filming something. I was star struck and he looked busy but I was just happy to have that moment. He's a very big guy! Hahaha Eddie is one of my favorite Titans.
@Andy Gygi I really would love too mu wife and kids would never go for it they want to go to Florida to live as it is they would never go for moving north.
It's kinda funny how Dick Vermeil is commentating...the coach who beat Eddie and the Titans in Super Bowl 34. Wonder if he referred back to this tape at all, or if he even had to...
Eddie is on another level that day I lived in Ohio most of my life. Ohio State big time program. Woody hays won 5 championships. I like the uniforms scarlet and grey. There so many players that played for then. Ohio football big.
Man some of those 90s buckeye teams were loaded. If Coop had just been able to beat that team up north like Tress or Urban he would have been a legend.
And George went out of the game with 12 minutes plus still remaining!! They were up big and didn’t want to take chance in him getting hurt, but he could have come close to 400 yards with that much time left. Incredible!!!
Great post OHD! Was at that game. Funny thing is Eddie broke the record. The buckeyes lost yardage on next play. He then gained it back breaking his own record. My friend and I cracked up!!! Awesome game. Went to every home game that year. Best season ever!! Eddie George, Bobby Hoying, Terry Glenn, Orlando Pace (who about high-fived my arm off at the end of the game), Rickey Dudley. Many great Buckeye memories. Thanks guys!!!
Great job of following his blocks, but I don’t think enough credit goes to the O-line for opening some holes you could drive a bus through. My grand mother could run for 100 a game behind this line and she’s been dead since 1993.
4 1st Round draft picks and Pro Bowlers on this offense(Pace, George, Glenn, Dudley). 5 of the first 14 people taken in the 96 draft were on the field when Ohio State had the ball(including Simeon Rice and Kevin Hardy) and would've been 6 out of 15 had Pace entered early.
Should have played for a national title 2 years in a row. This team might not have beaten Nebraska but they sure as hell would have beaten Florida the following year.
Of course, even if they would have gotten over the hurdle and actually beat TTUN, they would have also had to get over Cooper's inability to win bowl games. No question, they were better than TTUN and Florida, but they still would have had to overcome his history of losing big games at the end of the season.
I’ll never forget sitting with family for this one as a kid, with everyone in ponchos & the crowd following along with the Jumbotron that kept showing in the white gold letters EDD-IE !! EDD-IE !! Just one of those games and memory’s I’ll never forget which included seeing the scoreboard list 314 Rush Yards...Hoying must not have been sacked nor did anyone else carry the ball unelss it was for no gain. Go Bucks!
I remember being at that game sitting in the old bleachers by the Buckeyes locker room, running onto the field after the game. The place was electric that day
I remember this like yesterday 12:00 o'clock Saturday afternoon in 1995 I was about too go outside & then I said ooh 😲 Shit my favorite college football team is playing. And I got something too eat & watch my Buckeyes.
Illinois had been a decent football team for the past few years. IMO, they didn't recover from this game until the 2001 Sugar Bowl season. They weren't the same for years after this game.
It's crazy how similar Treys game was to Eddie's. Both run defenses highly touted. Star Wide Receiver missing. Even some individual runs can be watched side by side. I think Treys longest run was 65 and Eddie's was 64?
Didn't Illinois have the no 1 defense? Maybe not after the game. I wanted to see this game but it wasn't on local TV in Mississippi. George won the heisman that day
This tape looks more like an Orlando Pace highlight reel than Eddie George's. Pace had a number of pancake blocks; and in a number of others he is actually driving people he block off the screen. Frightening.
Ed George will always be one of my favorite Ohio State players. He no doubt deserved the Heisman Trophy Award that 1995 season. Too bad Ohio State ruined their 1995 season in the final game at Michigan and later in the Citrus Bowl against Tennessee. If only Ed George had the chance to play at Ohio State later when Jim Tressel was the head coach, the Buckeyes would have won back to back national championships in 2002 and 2003.
What a performance by Eddie George against the Illini in '95. I remember watching that game on TV and was greatly impressed. Thanks for sharing the clip.
Nicky Sualua(#37) was a stud he was 5'11 258 lbs and was one of the reasons EG dominated- a very underrated player for the Buckeyes
A record that stood for 25 years! What a day today for Trey Sermon!
BOOMER SOONER
That D had Simeon Rice and Kevin Hardy on it----two of the top three picks in the 1996 draft.
Simeon Rice terrorized us in previous games
A lot of this has to do with Orlando Pace just destroying their D Line.
I was thinking the same thing. Might as well have given Pace the Heisman.
44 years old and already in the pro football hall of fame. Was a big reason why the Rams were so prolific in the early 2000's. Great player.
