My grandfather used to sing Spancil Hill, at the top of his voice, every Sunday evening with all the windows and doors open, you'd hear him from down the road. It was the countryside so no one minded.
Last night as I lay dreaming of pleasant days gone by Me mind being bent on rambling, to Ireland I did fly I stepped on board a vision, and I followed with a will 'Til next I came to anchor at the cross at Spancil Hill It being on the 23rd of June, the day before the fair When Ireland's sons and daughters and friends assembled there The young, the old, the brave and the bold came, their duty to fulfill At the parish church in Clooney, a mile from Spancil Hill I went to see me neighbors, to see what they might say The old ones were all dead and gone, the young ones turning gray But I met the tailor Quigley, he's as bold as ever still Ah, he used to mend me britches when I lived in Spancil Hill I paid a flying visit to my first and only love She's as white as any lily, gentle as a dove And she threw her arms around me saying, "Johnny, I love you still" As she's Nell the farmer's daughter and the pride of Spancil Hill I dreamed I held and kissed her as in the days of yore Ah Johnny, you're only jokin', as many's the time before Then the cock, he crew in the morning, he crew both loud and shrill I awoke in California, many miles from Spancil Hill
When Ireland's son's and daughters and friend's assembled there. The young, the old, the brave and the bold, came there duty to fulfil. At the parish church in Clonee, a mile from Spancil Hill. GOOSEBUMPS EVERY TIME 🍀🇮🇪🍀🇮🇪
holy fuck!! what a talent.. My dad used to play the Dubliners and others when i was a kid, and this guy takes me back to the sunday drives kicking about the coast line of Scotland.. amazing..
Words couldn't Express the level of how I feel when ii hear this young man singing he sings with heart and the husky voice makes it more original 💚🤍🧡💯dan the man
I've only recently been introduced to the voice of Dan Mc Cabe and I've not been disappointed,I grew up with Irish folk music,my Dad Paddy Mc Keown was self taught on the guitar and banjo and played in a few different bands and for a time could have passed for a Ronnie Drew look a like,Dan,I lost my Dad 13 years ago to pancreatic cancer and before he died he recorded a professional cd,Dan you along with my Dadhave helped me to keep my love of Irish music alive and for this I thank you xo
My Sister sent me this link and I am so glad she did, my Dad was a huge Dubliners fan and he has been gone 15 years now. This song made me cry because your voice and guitar playing is so lovely but I was thinking how much Dad would have loved to hear this. I will be listening a lot more now and I am subscribing for sure, glad to be a fan and I hope everyone soon knows your name. Thank you for sharing with us, very much appreciated. Have a great week and stay safe. x 👍😎👏🍺👋🌈
When u look at today's music industry u know it's got fuck all to do with talent.. cos here's the real talent!!!! 🙌🏽🙏🏽 Amazing voice and cover of this song (one of my fav songs since a kid)
THE best version I've ever heard! Powerful! Love it! Makes me proud to be Irish! Reminds me of dinner on Sundays with my grandparents from Galway and Mayo. It was all Irish folk and rebel tunes we listened to with a little Johnnie Cash sprinkled in...the one American singer my grandma loved!
You've done your dad, Luke and every Irish brother and sister proud, moved away from Ireland in 2018 to start a family and I miss Cork so much, never stop singing ❤
one thing i love about dans voice music vibe etc , there are people commenting like myself that would never comment on songs or covers unless it touched them and probably telling all there friends and relatives about this unreal down to earth singer who just one word “goosebumps “
It has to come from the heart. You can clearly see it does.. I hope you get rewarded for keeping our music/history alive.. Keep up the good work, amazing voice👍
Gorgeous! I love singing this song, it has such a dream like quality to it, which matches the lyrics so perfectly. Can't wait to hear more of your music - keep playing!
I fell in love with this song first time I heard it in an irish pub in stockwell south london. my ex wife was irish english and i love her to bits to this day. ireland will always be in my heart. been there great country and lovely people. greeting from tangier morocco
This is actually very, very good. I dig the deep raspy voice. It sounds natural and not forced like a lot of singers. I learned a lot of "styles" on instruments from The Dubliners. Luke Kelly influenced me to learn 5 string banjo. Clawhammer style. Ronnie inspired the finger-picking from his expert Spanish guitar style, and Jim McCann. Barney McKenna influenced my tenor banjo(and mandolin) skills and style. I play fiddle, irish/tin/penny whistle, i learned to love hearing James Sheahan. All of these styles I have melded these into my own, and started doing well live until the coof. Stay strong
I’ve heard very few who can do this song justice in the way Luke could. Dan, you’ve a grand talent there amigo. Keep going. Just searched for you on Apple Music. No results. Gutted. Absolutely brilliant.
My god I have never heard the likes.....my heart is breaking every time I hear this...this "dan man" is unbelievable....what a voice... I have already listened to this 20times 👏👏👏
The Irish story is a beautiful one...small island with enormous impact in America and throughout the world and now Ireland by itself is an example for the the rest of the world. Amazing story coming from nothing but desperation grit and determination.
Again Dan this is absolutely brilliant.. would love to be sittin in a pub somewhere listening to you singing👍🏻 I’d pay good money for it and I’m sure I’m not the only one.
