I was a Garda (Police officer) in Niall's hometown of Mullingar for a couple of years. One night in 2014, a colleague and I were on patrol and Niall was out on a night on the town with his mate. Towards the end of the night, we decided to bring him and his mate home as was being swarmed by many young lady's (lucky guy). The craic we had with him in the patrol car was brilliant. He's a gent like his dad, Genuine and sincere. Westmeath's finest! Well done Niall, beautiful version of Spancil Hill.
I love meeting a down to earth Garda like yourself. Honest and straight up as a Garda should be. There's a lot to be said for it. Fair play to you sir.
Nerves of steel boyo....You made me proud, we did indeed flock to America's shores, and they gave us a shot, it took a while, but we fought, clawed, slaved our way into the middle class and respectability, and we would not have wanted it any other way.....!
There’s something inside Irish people that transcends the physical…. A pain and sorrow for the ghosts of our comrades but a bond with our fellow Irish souls
Let's not lose the old songs. They have Ireland's history in their stories. The Irish often reuse melodies to newer words, and all are important. This is a gold rush song.
I'm proud to be Irish and proud of our wee island of EiRE being in Whitehouse America and with niall his feet are still grounded. Keep her mighty niall
So proud. Great idea to do a traditional Irish song along with his own. I know he was shitting bricks but to look so confident up there and to make the room laugh is a real testament to the guy
I heard someone in the audience mention Northern Ireland in reference to this song. No no it is a Co Clare song. Spancil Hill is in Co Clare, on the Tulla Road between Ennis and Tulla and it always reminds me of my father Ned Kelleher. This is a lovely version by Niall.
We bury my Grandad in the morning. This is one of his favourite songs. Niall you nailed it!! You're one of Ireland's finest just like my Grandad and I'm so proud that you are representing Ireland, there's nobody more suited. NIALL HORAN FOR PRESIDENT! Much love from Offaly 🇮🇪☘️☘️ Thinking of you Grandad, this one's for you ❤
I’m not Irish, never been to Ireland but good God Niall! You truly have arrived. More power to you, your music and all your endeavours. Wish you all the best from my part of the planet.❤❤❤
How special was this.Niall has the most beautiful voice, so glad he has this success.A beautiful, generous ordinary guy.We need more of him in this world ❤
What an amazing ambassador representing Ireland , so talented, so gifted and so many cores of great personality wrapped in great manners , love Niall ❤️
Yes he should make a whole album like this. I love the old Irish songs like this. With his voice he did the beautifully. I stop what I was doing and just sat here with my eyes closed and just listened to him sing that beautiful song. I did not want it end.
As I get older I often reflect and ponder on my irish heritage and what would have been if my father moved there as he was going to in the late 70s. My whole family hailing from Galway Dublin and donegal. To be honest it does hurt me that I wasn't born there. But when I hear all these beautiful songs that my dad used to sing and when I think of my family's journey I just get lost in it all and smile through the music. God bless Ireland. Well done niall
I’ve also struggled with my heritage a lot having been born in England with most of my family hailing from Tipperary and Donegal. I find myself listening to Irish music like this more than anything else. Nothing stirs the soul like Irish music sung beautifully, but then again you don’t have to be Irish to enjoy it.
It's mad how the power of the Irish gene and its heritage and music runs deep. Know that it is in you and enjoy letting it out, you are always welcome as when you are in ireland know that you are home
Oh wow, this really showcases what a lovely voice he has. What an honour to perform in from the the president like that. He seems like such a nice young man too. He’s a great ambassador for the younger generation of Ireland today.
It was the Irish in America that fought and won the Revolutionary War for us. And many of the wars since. They're brave and tough and have huge hearts.

His voice is perfect for traditional Irish songs. He should do a whole album in this style.
You’re not wrong there
That's because he is Irish... Takes a real Irishman to do an Irish song justice. ☺
First verse was poor. It was if he was trying to over accentuate his Irish accent. Got better as the song went along
Agreed!
@@celtic333ful As an Irish person, I disagree with that

I think he told this story on the Graham Norton show 😂 👏🏻
Think he spoke about that on Graham Norton one night. Good on ye for doing that, the Gardai are fantastic
That was very decent of you to bring him home so glad you had some Craic for your trouble. Born & raised in Dublin IRL!
I love meeting a down to earth Garda like yourself. Honest and straight up as a Garda should be. There's a lot to be said for it. Fair play to you sir.

There's something incredibly moving about traditional Irish music. 😢
I'm proud to be Irish and proud of our wee island of EiRE being in Whitehouse America and with niall his feet are still grounded. Keep her mighty niall
Am I the only one who keeps coming back to this? So good.
I'm proud to say I know every word to this song. I'm not Irish but Welsh.
Hi you should search a young lad from County carlow called Dan McCabe, he sings this and other ballads, he's a fantastic voice
Close enough 😉

How weird must this feel for him compared to "normal" concerts - everybody sitting silent and listening - no "you sing"! 😊
Niall said that performing on small venue freaks him out so...
Yes but concert goers today don’t listen. They just want to sing out loud themselves. 🙄
Tough audience! Imagine singing with passion to a bunch of souless puppets.
Absolute gentleman. I have seen many of his interviews and he has never let himself down once. You get what you see
