I personally think the Shard Defractor built for Area Damage with the +33% damage versus electricfied tagets with the Plascret OC would be better, in my opinion.
One thing to mention: Teammates aren’t actually hurt by electrified platforms or electrified turrets themselves, only the line between turrets. (And even then it deals almost no damage and has no slow)
Yeah i found this out during a core stone fight. The constant slow from the shock rendrerd the Spawns to near uselessness and just passivly died as i shoot the floor while my team turn the stone to swiss cheese
The damage is negligible, but it does still interrupt shield regen which could be a problem (though of course taking the friendly perk doesn't make it any better). Honestly I ended up just not using the actual turret arc part of the overclock for this reason (that and it was bugged lol). Makes me wonder what's even the point of having that friendly fire damage: it's not like the turret arc does more damage to enemies than the platform traps. They both do the same damage, turret arc just takes 5x longer to set up and rewards you with dwarves yelling at you about friendly fire.
recently when i was playing with another engie, i took an edible and kinda just plastered the entire floor in platforms around a core stone because gaming. The other engie in our squad had micro conductors equipped and turned that room into a god damn microwave. Every inch of the floor was just covered in arcs of electricity, my engi main eyes had never seen a more beautiful sight
Spinning death on Breach or Lava Beam on Laser work wonders with this. I use the laser with everything else on the elevator missions. Spinning death with lure is always nasty. Adding more zappy zap, well :)
I think one thing wasn't mentioned here: Macteras. This build relies on bugs crawling through your voltage traps, so I guess that mactera are this build's natural enemies. Also not taking insecticide on your platforms helps too.
This happened before all these changes: had a online morkite mission, a driller joins in and talking mid mision about OCs he told me thats one of the worse he even tried (while i'm packin it), then we had a swarm ( we were in a narrow path, so he made a bit more space), i covered half the path above us making a choke point so i set the sentries for the electric field to fck ANYTHING through, the whole swarm got obliterated by the electric field.... Once we were done seeing how a good set up of sentries and strategy makes that OC deadly he said "ima try that sh- t again, nice gameplay dude". Glad this OC had that buff, it was an underrated one for crowd control
I think it's important to mention you specifically don't want repellent on your platforms as you don't want the bugs avoiding them! I had fun with the stubby over clock and it looks cool as hell, but it's a bit too situational for my taste.
Short note for the Breach Cutter: With high voltage crossover, you are free to drop the stun mod for the armor strip mod. The slow works for keeping things that survive the plasma wave at bay, AND anything that DOES survive is stripped of all armor that can be stripped. Instant naked praetorians, guards, shellbacks, etc. my favorite breach cutter oc for that exact reason.
This was so needed now it can actually compete with turret whip And it can give you platform build with lighting and explosive platforms using the shard diffractor
while i get the theme of this entire video is electricity, i dont think putting breach cutter with electric modifier is a good idea, if youre going for point defense its better for you to apply more direct damage as well as potentially a 2nd debuff like setting them on fire using inferno OC or something... that being said the new stubby rework makes me want to use it more often nowadays...
Not only is the reworked turret arc good with high voltage crossover but it can also work well with plastacret catalyst for the shard defractor , just slow down the bugs by shocking the platforms then use plastacret catalyst to explode the platform for even more damage .
My fav is pairing the conductor stubby with plasticrete catalyst and shredding everything with platforms alone. A small platform island of 5 plats in a u-shape with the turrets on either end made the match borderline afk strats on haz 5, 4 player pipe mission lol
22321 is the best way to bulid this oc, as Elec Arc on t5b is outclassed in every way by MCAO (Micro Conductor Add-on), and the bigger mag leads to less reloading when trying to proc the electricity fields. Armor Break is just not good on stubby because it's better to just outright kill an enemy than to soften it up (Which it doesn't help much in that regard). You won't need it for any Stubby builds. (X in a tier means you can take anything you want on that tier.) Secondaries for this oc are just typical breach cutter loadouts. Here's some stand outs: - Inferno 11122 - Roll Control X3122 - Light Weight Mag 11122 I wouldn't recommend High Voltage Crossover as it feels like dumping a ton sugar on a sundae. Anything that you feel like would protect you well when you aren't set up is a solid choice. -RJ250 (Quick burst of mobility) X1131 -Volatile Impact Reactor (VIR) 32X13 - Efficancy Tweaks (Shard) 21111 Taking ammo tier 3 on Plat Gun makes MCAO much more easy to grasp, so I recommend trying it with the ammo mod on your Platform Gun, but usually you don't want to lose repellent because you can set it up to where it can be even better than the ammo mod, while not losing the insane power of repellent.

I use Shard Diffractor with OC Plastcrete Catalyst (31211). We use platform all time with this Stubby but Plastcrete Catalyst make platform murderous! And it doesn't destroy them completely, so it doesn't interfere with the use of Stubby.
I finished my build. 1) Stubby OC Micro-conductor ADD-ON (21213) 2) Breach Cutter OC Spinning Death (11222); Shard Diffractor OC Plastcrete Catalyst (31211) 3) Platform Gun (211) only ammo, you don't need Repellant. Repellant interferes with overclocking. 4) L.U.R.E. Is best engeener defend mission build. But OC Plastcrete Catalyst make good this build on other mission. Why i use Stubby (21213)? You just don't have to shoot at your enemies! Only platform. Flying opponents are a great danger to us. Because is use t4a and t5c. And t5c helps us hit distant platforms. Why i use OC Spinning Death? This weapon is very helpful against large enemy. And it saves us in a situation when we don’t have time to use the platforms. And can also be used instead of platforms to protect Doretta at the Flying Balls stage. p.s. sorry my english is not so good
A very good build for sure. But stacking electricity on electricity is pretty much a complete waste. Take the oc for the breach cutter that sets everything on fire and you will stack both status effects on top of each other making bigger enemies take a shit ton of both alpha from the beam and dot dmg from the fire and electricity
I use this build but a few teaks . I pick more ammo because you can sock more targets without mod 2 on the stubby . I use the lore grande in a cluster of shocked platforms And I use the spinning death OC for essentially a bug lantern blender …..😂 it’s dumb but it works Made a grammar edit
I have to say that taking breach cutter that applies shock when you have stubby to apply shock is so stupid, when engi has shard defractor with overclock that boosts its damage if it hits platforms AND a mod that increases damage to electricuted targets.
Are you sure about electric field damage on teammates? I swear I seen them walk through it and even stand in it and there's no "you shot me/i am taking damage soundbite". Granted i never actually asked but it does make me wonder.

My newest fav engi build is Micro conductor on the Stubby with lures and Plascrete catalyst on the lazer beam, the floor becomes death.

I use armor break on my micro-conductor build, the armor break really works well with softening up targets for turrets to get a clear shot.

Plat catalyst + new turret arc is actually quite clever, never thought of it because i like taking hyper.

Bug repellant and electrified platforms seem completely at odds. You want the bugs to walk over the plats.
@bluedistortions you want to shoot the edges on plats anyways. The range on the fields is a lot bigger than you think.

Could you explain why did you pick hawkeye system in turret tier 5 instead of the other one
the sentry mods really need rebalancing bc right now there is one build which is the best at everything and multiple terrible mod choices
I just don't want to worry about setting them up at a certain angle is all lol. but either option in tier 5 would work great honestly.
Aside from hawkeye being kinda troll(you just a lot of damage), prety good build.
